It's amazing what one good sub will do to a meh sound system!

    Great video Dave.
Did the new driver sound better with the stock amp?
I have a S550 with an 8 inch driver and am thinking of replacing it with an 8 inch pioneer unit I found at Crutchfield.
Direct replacement for use with factory box and amp.
    Did the polyfil work?
    Thanks

Thanks for watching and for the kind words! It did sound better with the stock amp-maybe not ideal, but it works wonders in my opinion. Definitely an improvement in clarity and bass response. If you're considering the Pioneer 8-inch, it should be a great upgrade, especially as a direct replacement.
As for the polyfill, it worked really well! It helped tighten up the bass and reduced unwanted noise from the factory enclosure. I definitely recommend giving it a try when you swap yours out. Let me know how your upgrade goes! - Dave

The stock amp does not have enough wattage to power that woofer. Ask me how I know.

Hi there! I agree with you- it won't run at its full capacity, that's a fact. The idea behind this upgrade is to make it better, though it may still not be optimal. What happened to yours? Suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for commenting!

@@DaveShopIndy The Pioneer just didn't have the same punch that the stock speaker did. The Pioneer to perform as intended needs 400watts nominal and 1300watts max and the stock amp can't provide the power. It wasn't expensive so I'm not upset about it. When I put it back to stock I resealed the factory box which eliminated the air leaks. If the Pioneer had an independent amp it would kick ass I'm sure.
