Loving SW on xbox so far - I have a crane type deal on my base with rotors to turn it, pistons to extend the arm and pistons to lower 6 drills that also spin slowly. I can mine all around my base and gain a huge amount of resources.
A friend of mine is working on building a mining base that has wheels. I've been helping him build it, mostly doing the hinge, rotor, and piston work because he can't figure it out but I got the hang of it pretty quick. Essentially how his base works is it's built like a supermassive Hydrogen fueled APC. Now, at first I was thinking of making it fueled via wind generators but the wind generators didn't give enough oomf to run all of the landship's systems, so it utilizes what I call a "H4 Engine" (essentially created by hooking up a hydrogen generator to a hydrogen tank and then that tank to 4 subsequent hydrogen generators). That, along with a couple wind engines on the roof net enough power to keep the batteries topped off at all times as long as you have the ice to fuel it. Gathering said ice became a problem in the testing phases of the landship, and we were thinking of making a smaller ship to collect ice then return to a connector, but instead we went with the option that sounded cooler to us: Use pistons to allow the rig to anchor itself to the ground by lifting itself off of it's wheels, where it would be raised high enough in the air for the hinges I made to drop down 2 separate drills and bore directly below the platform. Once collection of ice and other ores is complete, you just push the buttons in the correct sequence to raise the drills (engaging: turn drills on, up hinge velocity, up piston velocity; disengaging: turn drills off, down piston velocity first to raise the drills up, then down hinge velocity to fold the drills into the undercarriage of the craft) It works surprisingly well as a land vehicle, but now we're trying to upgrade it to allow spaceflight WHILE keeping all of the before aforementioned functions. Our goal for this ship, which we've dubbed the Hepheastus, is to be able to fly it to an undiscovered planet, deploy the drill to begin harvesting supplies, and then use the supplies to set up a permanent outpost. Once the outpost is set up to where we'll be able to freely respawn at that planet and there's a beacon up with the base's location, we take off again and find a new base location.
Version three uses conveyor tubes from base to collector site. Then all you need to due is mine as it conveys it back for you. Used this option before, just prefer my go to is atmos miner.
WIld Zebra HuH, at same time you will create a lot of gravel, and you just postpone other materials to collect like Magnesium, cobalt, silver and gold, and the amount of iron, silicone and cobalt you get are low. I always go to build a small towering miner ship so the miner can go beneath the surface but carry a huge payload at same time.
With the collector method, iv found great success digging under my base with a hand drill then setting up a collector all piped up and just go ham mining all the stone
Sometimes I mine using a Spherical grav generator and a collector or 2,3,4... mounted up over the mining hole. This is faster because you don't have to run back and forth to the cargo containers to empty your character inventory, the rocks just fly up back through the hole! Disadvantage is it takes some special ores and can use up to large amount of power. It's fun anyways.
I love the first semi manual method. It is surprisingly effective. I thought of it myself the other day at the start of my game. Could get 20k stone in all of a few minutes.
Hi, my curved conveyor tube will not turn green, i have the top on the piston all fine, i add the curved conveyor, build it up and its still yellow connection, its infuriating at this point, please help! 😅
I've been told that you don't want a piston group to push the drill faster than 4mps. If you have multiple pistons, their combined speed should be no greater than 4 mps
Whenever I use the build planner it says that X number of items weren't able to be added to production or I was unable to pick up X number of components once they were produced. What am i doing wrong?
Do you have the blueprints unlocked, and the basic refinery and assembler only handle maybe half of the ore and items for production. Just ran into this myself and have to go ore hunting for cobalt.
I followed this video to a T and when my drills drill down the stone remains in the drills it won't go in to my small cargo so I can grind it down automatically what am I doing wrong
Same I watched other videos too and can’t find out what’s happening doesn’t matter how you set it up I still can’t get it out of the drill unless I drop it on the ground lol
I'm probably about to invoke the wrath of Klang, but I'm about to enable experimental mode, and do 5 drills with 4 large conveyor tubes between, instead of 9 or 10 drills.
@Grossmesser1 yeah, I changed my mind. I just built 10 drills in a row, and had the advanced rotor rotating slowly, and id lower my 3 pistons by .5 m each after i stopped hearing it grind the ground. It worked great, and made a pretty hole.
i dont know why i just found out about this game but still.. i like to give it a try! but i have a quistion about these mining platforms. looks like if you build it once and when down to its max.. you cant use it anymore. or will the ground fill up over time? looks like a lot of work for a 1time thing
Hey did you figure out how to move items from one base inventory to another? I had a bunch of ore in one refinery but i could not get the other ore into the other refinery i had. I had to do it the long way by grabbing it into my inventory then dumping into the open refinery.
@@devonsmith5439 no this is for xbox specifically. On the pc you can just click and drag to the same side, for some reason i cant move them the same way on xbox. Its really hard to explain as well, without posting a video of it. Thanks for the advice though.
@@Vincentkelton i was thinking maybe switching which inventory is up per each side. So having one up on the left and right side of the inventory screen but each from the non-charachter selection. Ill try when i finish repairing my sink

I found that when trying to unlock your tech tree faster it took half less materials and less hand drilling at the beginning by just using your starter pod. Grind down and rebuild off that or add onto it with small grid parts until the time comes you need large grid only.
Splitsie´s tutorials use this way to unlock things faster ( it´s old and for pc but since that aren't changes in the way things works it's okay to use it to xbox game)
This seems like a waste of time and resources. 2 reasons One. Dirt provides much less resources than stone, which is deeper. Second. When I mine. I make a small hole so all of the materials fall into the hole. You still have to carry it all. I still appreciate the video. This is referring to the collector part.
But why? What are you surviving from in this game? I'm sincerely asking bc I'm struggling to find the point of survival. St least in minecraft there are mobs that will kill you quickly if you don't prepare.
Just get the auto pickup mod. It picks all ore/stone you mine by hand up. You can even filter it to only pickup certain ores, pickup and then destroy others to reduce entity clutter. It should be a default game function given ship drills pickup mined ore straight away.
I had this same issue today and I noticed that the Top Part (the part that extends) of both of the pistons was not built all the way. Once I built them, then the material transferred. You have to built the Top Part separate from the main part.

Tips: Destroy blocks past the functional bar on the drop pod and rebuild them to unlock them in research

Excellent Idea. Its crazy how similar playing on xbox is compared to vanilla servers on PC, and all the no mod tricks and tip work just as good!

What happens to the stone when it goes into the refinery? The inventory is so confusing.

You just add more pistons to go deeper
question, how do you make h2, whenever i put ice in the h2 maker it doesent do anything?
You connect the H2 generator to a survival kit and when you click recharge it will use the ice to fill hydrogen

thats great, thank you!
I can’t change the speeds for my positions any help?

Need build planner to extract it.
I cant build objects into the Ground. Only in the air and they falling down.
If your on Xbox hold rb then click right trigger to change from free mode to gravity aligned or local grid lock should help
Donald Trump That didn’t work but clicking left stick and then RB + x did the work. The build mode was in ship.
