Those 4.0L In-line 6 cylinder engine are pretty good engines, however that person who owns that Jeep treated it terribly which is how it ended up like a pice of junk.
Probably the most stylish Jeep ever made unlike some of the monstrosities Jeep sell here in Australia nowadays. Still very popular here and easy to get parts. Very much under rated.
Good to see her finally put back together properly. I hope she find a good home now. I have a '99 with 76,000 miles and runs like a top. I think the only thing I'd change is maybe install a little bit softer suspension. The area I live has some rough roads and you definitely feel some of the bumps. I do wish I had that stereo head unit. Mine doesn't have the in-dash CD, but it does have the 10 disc changer in the rear. It's also 4X4.
We have a 2001 and 2002 and both are still going strong. Ours are 4WD both in the 130,000 mile range. We keep the maintenance up on both. I am very attached to mine and it was so sad to see and hear how bad the one in your video was. I can't believe people can do this to a vehicle. I am so glad you persevered and got this beauty up and running. It's beautiful and looks and sounds new. I hope whoever has it now is taking care of it.
So nice to see it up and running again, poor Jeep has been through hell and back. It's sad when people can't take care of their vehicles, my mom had a 2002/2003 Grand Cherokee and she loved it. But I'm glad it's back alive and running strong, hopefully the next owner will take good care of it.
I first watched your video where you tried to drive it with a blown engine and that video was so sad. It was painful to watch. I am so glad you got it fixed and running well again.
Im getting a car for graduation. I realized i wanted an SUV, but there is nothing like a Jeep. I test drove one of the these the other day and i love it!!! the ride quality is amazing, the four wheel drive was amazing, and the engine note is great to listen to!! I was trying to decide between this or a liberty, but just looking at the two i know i want a Cherokee! I can't wait for mine!!
Just bought a 2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo last month, optioned the same way as this one but with the SelecTrac 4WD system, and a power driver's seat, but it is pretty much the same, and I love it! Gotta love your straight six Jeep engine! (:
I've had three jeeps. I got rid of one of these 7 years ago. I saw one on a used car lot today. Test drove it. Idol speed a little high, then went down and up? 142,000 for $3,000. I might go get it next week. The perfect model jeep even now, I think.
wow I remember this Jeep the first time you made a video of it, what a long time it's been. The shifter is a common problem on these, I've done four at my work. Jeep released a TSB and updated shifter/cable assembly because they all go bad eventually. And dude I miss these kinds of videos in this "format". Casual, unscripted, no cuts no edits.
I found Kyle's channel back in 2009 when he first got started on TH-cam, and this Jeep was the reason why I found his channel. I've been watching all the videos Kyle's made on this Jeep, and am so glad to see it back on the road again! (:
Kyle I love you for keeping up with this Jeep and showing it some love. Im a huge fan of these Grand Cherokee's and always loved seeing it on your channel since the first vid. If anything should happen to it again please post it! Thanks :)
It’s hard to believe it’s the same vehicle! This is my favorite generation of the Grand Cherokee, it’s super reliable like the previous generation with the 4 liter, inline 6 cylinder engine
Oh , my dad used to have it in 2016. It was my favorite car and it was the same year of this and I still love these cars and I was only one when he had this and then after that, he sold it in like 2018 and got Toyota Avalon it was gold so that’s why I loved it and then after that he got a truck and sold his Avalon and we moved to a house that’s way bigger and two this day he still has his truck
Ive wanted a Grand Cherokee ever since this generation came out...and last Sept I got one. It's a 2006 with the 4.7L, so not as classic as this one (and although I love a V8 it just not as special as these I-6's) but I still love it and I'm sure it'll still be going past 250K.
When I first subscribed to the channel I watched the videos on this particular Jeep. Cherokees are a favorite of mine, so it was very sad hearing about someone just essentially trashing the vehicle. I'll be glad to see it go, hopefully to someone who will actually take care of it. I've got a 1999 Nissan Sentra with over 180,000 miles on it running just as good! Take care of what you drive, it'll reward you in the end. : )
The Jeep lives on!! It's a nice car when everything on it works correctly! Lol. I REALLY hope this poor Jeep goes to a good owner that will take really good car of it. That Inline 6 has a lot of life left in it, bulletproof engine to say the least. I'm glad it was only a switch that prevented it from starting. Not many other cars could survive as much neglect as this Grand Cherokee has! Thank you Kyle for posting this video and keep up the fantastic work!
@billysepf74 I agree. He never gave up on this Jeep, even when it was full of junk and had the blown engine. You really should never give up on a Jeep, especially older ones with this engine because it keeps going with just basic maintenance. Of course, take extra care of it for max life but it's well known for it's legendary reliability and durability. I've never owned a Jeep but everyone who does loves them. Hopefully this Grand Cherokee went to a good owner finally!
A lady at my church had a red 02 Model with the 4.0, she bought it brand new and eventually sold it with 230,000 miles and my friend has a 04, she love that car and has never had a problem with it
Robert Davis I have a 02 wj as well, except the color of mine is patriot blue with all time 4 wheel drive. I've never had a single problem with it running wise. it's a great vehicle
Starting to get teary eye just remembering that Jeep that cheap like started the channel and I really like that Jeep that’s I keep watching your videos of it when I was blowing I really like it nice video
Wow such a huge difference, back in the older videos this jeep sounded like a lawn mower or a motorcycle but now it sounds a lot different and quieter :)
just got mine same year and color mines got fog lights and 159000 miles runs great.had to get the plastic bumpers re done and it looks brand new.love your vids keep em comin :)
@Projective You need to watch the old videos of this Jeep. When it was first repoed, it had a blown engine thanks to the people neglecting it like crazy and not changing the oil. Plus it was full of trash. It's had nothing but careless owners and that's probably why the trans went bad too. This 4.0 L Inline 6 is a bulletproof engine if well cared for. Very reliable and will last forever. Heck it even started when it was blown! Now THAT is quality. You really can't kill these Jeeps.
I must say Kyle, the cars are very nicely and neatly arranged on the lot! I like how they're arranged by body style so the sedans, SUVs, and pickup trucks all have their own section. The only thing that bothers me is that they seem a little too close to the street so I'd be a little nervous about that guy with the camaro who crashed into the power box at your old college driving around... :0 Other than that, it seems nice and peaceful in Reidsville :D
@iSsquared It was also a two time repossession which means it got probably zero care from 130k-160k miles from the first owner. That's a good way to kill an engine, even a Japanese one.
I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee, 113k miles, That jeep must have been abused bad (motor wise) Because those inline 6's last forEVER. Good video kyle keep it up.
But if the neutral safety switch was bad wouldn't it just click and when you played around with the gear shifter it would start that sounds more like a bad fuel pump or also a lot of jeeps have problems when they get older with not firing
@Z28ChevySB Good question my friend. They shouldn't have the right to own a car in the first place. Seeing this Jeep finally in pretty good shape and running well is such a relief after all this time!
Well, I'm glad it's good now, or at least it was back when this video was made. I'm curious to know if this car ever appeared back at the dealership since then with other problems. But I'm a fan of the Grand Cherokee so hopefully it's still doing good.
@TheCarlover97 It's the Laredo trim but I think that pretty much is the base model for the Grand Cherokee. Though he did review one that was 4WD and had leather interior but same straight 6. This one on the other hand is pretty base, cloth seats and front wheel drive only. It's still a nice Jeep though with a great engine.
I love these jeeps...mines getting a engine put in it now....so did you have a hard time finding a used inline 6 for this jeep?...I had a helluva time finding a good one in Pittsburgh
it's amazing how far you've come as a car reviewer, kyle. you get better every day!
1:46 Most of us thought we'd never see the day.. It actually started!
John Green Twin I have to be honest, I NEVER saw this coming
Right on dude!
@@antiqueelectronics2462 you like nonexistent things, huh? I’ll show you old man. Vintage electronics don’t exist.

BEAUTIFUL, IT RUNS BETTER THIS TIME! JEEPS ARE GREAT.
They are, but I don’t know if Scotty Kilmer would agree.
Those 4.0L In-line 6 cylinder engine are pretty good engines, however that person who owns that Jeep treated it terribly which is how it ended up like a pice of junk.
If you ocd maintain them properly
Probably the most stylish Jeep ever made unlike some of the monstrosities Jeep sell here in Australia nowadays. Still very popular here and easy to get parts. Very much under rated.
That engine sound is awesome!
Awesome job Kyle. The Jeep sure sounds better than ever. Keep up the great videos.

Getting an older car working and purring like this is great. The next owner will have a great ride on their hands ! Hope they enjoy it !

that is a nice sounding jeep. I love the sound of the motor

The amount of happiness you probably felt when that Engine W o r k e d-

Hope the person who has it now takes very good care of it, that poor jeep deserves it.
Sad to see the last update video on the Jeep. That 'ol Jeep has been like family the last 3 or so years. Thanks for the update!
I am so proud of you for posting a test drive video of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. How nice of you. Jeeps are nice. They run good.

I remember, it sounded like it was begging you to kill it! lol Glad to see it running.
Not a bad looking jeep hope it got a new home

The blown engine videos of this jeep is what introduced me to Saabkyle04
