    Who was Hugh Nibley? For starters, he was arguably the most brilliant Latter-day Saint scholar of the 20th century. Though he was sometimes one of the harshest critics of Brigham Young University, he was also one of the Church’s most faithful and loyal advocates. People liked Hugh Nibley because he was not afraid to say things that we wish we could say, to espouse unpopular causes, to thumb his nose at fashion, or to buck the crowd. According to Elder Neal A. Maxwell, Nibley's well-known eccentricity was itself "a reflection of his deepened discipleship.”

    Wow, Nibley keeps becoming more and more my favorite scholar in church history. He has been saying about academia and the whole university system what I have been saying for years. A false priesthood with its modern secular temples. Brilliant. I have been saying for years the whole academic system needs a complete reformation or to be completely torn down and rebuilt. I am not saying there are not good professors or that there is not a need for higher learning but the abject ignorant blind sheep acceptance I have seen from students who regurgitate and accept whole sale whatever their professor's and PHDS graduates say without any investigation into there biases, information or omitted information is reminiscent of the dark ages. For every college graduate who comes to me and basically says my professor said or the science says doesn't even realize they are merely saying what people who blindly followed the authorities of the past say. The priest says, or the scripture says. We need more academic Martin Luther's or better yet Joseph Smith's who are willing to say the scripture/science also says this and says your wrong when you said this. I find it laughable when the very people who accuse me of blindly following and being ignorant in following my faith despite I have done my homework, addressed my questions and answered the questions of critiques and above all got my own divine witness of the truthfulness of what I know is true from the ultimate authority have the hypocritical gall to say they are enlightened and opened minded when they are challenged refuse to listen, try to silence me, or accept they were wrong or even grant me the openminded courtesy they so profess that I might possibility be right.

    I miss Dr. Nibley! He had the greatest confidence in his ability to find the truth, but he wasn’t the least bit arrogant. I enjoyed this video. I forgot how fast he talked!

    There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there's perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books. Great read. Thumbs up! 👍

    I kept hearing about "priesthood in black robe?"

      @TwedesTake 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "black robes of a false priesthood" references the robes you wear during graduation from university. They are very similar to what you would find in the temples today, and Hugh is saying the world tries to copy practices of God's people.

    WELL WE ARE OBSERVERS,
    ACTORS, REALLY DOING WHAT WE THINK WHATS RIGHT.
    6:16
    REACTORS, TO THINGS WHICH ARE ABOVE OUR INTELLIGENCE. ABOVE OUR PHYSICALITY TO OVER COME.
    BEING ACTED UPON BY OTHERS, BY PRINCIPLES, REAL OR UNREAL. BY THE DEVIL AND OR HIS IMPS OR FREE TO FOLLOW GOD AND HIS PROPHETS, TEACHERS, FELLOW SAINTS.
    THATS WHAT I RECIEVED ON THE MAIN POINT, BY INSPIRATION, REVELATION. THATS WHAT CAME TO ME TEACHING CLASS ONE TIME.
