Listening to one of his classes on line and he made the statement how do I know this principle I’m teaching is true I know it through revelation. That was good enough for me.
I am a 70-year old man, that was me in college...I took all Bro. Nibley's classes I could. It was funny--most of the classes had a lot of topical overlap as he frequently drifted off into his favorite subjects. In the first week or two all the Freshmen dropped out. In the 2nd or 3rd week most the sophomores dropped out. In the second half of the quarter one would find all upperclassmen sitting in the first two rows hanging on every sentence, straining to hear him as he mumbled away. It was great! In Class, he seemed to be able to erase with his left hand as he wrote with his right. He used to carry a notepad under his hat and talk to himself and make notes as he walked across campus. I loved Brother Nibley as well as his writings.
Nibley's works are an unusual and very profitable marriage between faith and reason. It would be of much beneffit for all us LDS Church members to have full access to his texts so we can all push forward to fullfill his noble and bold endeavour.
One day in 1983 I was calling people in Utah County to try to help collect for the heart fund drive, and I happened upon his name, and I called it wondering, is this The Hugh Nibley, and it was, he speech pattern and cadence were exactly alike and he said he would collect on his street, I got a kick out of that.
Thank you Brother Welch for you work. I have read the Nibley series. Those volumes are a rock for my personal studies and exploration into the gospel. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this wonderful interview, and this wonderful channel. It’s so exciting to see the areas being identified in Israel and the Middle East that we know of from The Book of Mormon. We are truly blessed.
enjoyed this interview with Welch. I have 8-10 books written by Hugh Nibley and some of them were including comments by Jack Welch - some of them on the Dead Sea scrolls. Thank you!
Thank you. I still have in my shelves the paperback copy of the Pearl of Great Price lectures from Hugh Nibley from FARMS. It is great to know that his Collected Works are part of the Deseretbook PLUS program, which is reason to participate in the program just by itself 😄
@Hobgoblin Does a wise man condemn another's thoughts and understanding simply because he has not had the same experience? Nibley's comparisons have not been disproved. Fannie Browdie's book was not a biography, it was an attack and a revision of history to meet her personal goal of destroying Joseph Smith's reputation. Many have written articles and books, showing Browdie's bias and why she wrote what she wrote. You should sincerely put the Book of Mormon to test yourself, read and pray about the book as it advises. Your personal results might surprise you. Thank you for the way you expressed your opinion.
I can’t never get tired of listening to brother nibleys lectures.

I think Hugh Nibley was great!!
He Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ proud would like to have known him
There is no compelling reason for ANYONE to watch this.
He also interfered with his daughter?
