Kaz had a 400 pound log in him that day - so much more animal power to spare. Incredible. In 1980 he also pulled 950+ pounds in the partial deadlift and looked good for 1100 pounds. A shame that we never really got to see his maximum human potential - I guess (injury free) his power would have peaked around 1985 and he was probably good for six titles.
No doubt. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay different log than they used today too. Incredible unbalanced and a huge diameter and he still handled it like a toy and he had no technique. Who knows where he would have been using todays but I think it would have been neck and neck with Big Z and Eddie Hall.
Kaz was a total beast for sure but JP absolutely dominated in '87, and he'd lose tons of weight for bodybuilding then stack it back on for Strongman. I reckon if Kaz were still competing in WSM and continued dominance then JP would've taken at least one off him prior to '87, especially if he didn't fluctuate in weight constantly and worked toward the one goal of Strongman.
It should be stated for the record that Jon Pall had weeks to specifically train all the events that were used and Kaz had zero prep. He was also older and coming off several years of not competing. Still they also let Jon Pall cheat in some of the events.
18:33 -- is the reason I think Bill would be a top 10 Strongman TODAY. He is literally throwing 175lbs barrels like beach balls. And also -- his log lift earlier was good enough to be over 400lbs that day. the 360 looked like a warmup rep. You know how few people , even Training for it specifically , can do 400lbs log today? Not many. And of the ones that do 400+, how many weight 320 or less? Not many...
That guy Mike Adamle has been everywhere. He was not only hosting this event, but he was also hosting the old show American Gladiators from 1989 to 1996, and then he was in the WWE in 2008.

Geoff Capes at the 1980 WSM said he was going to put on about 50lbs more and be a lot stronger so he can compete better for this year. He put on 5lbs :P But he did improve from 3rd 1980 to 2nd place in 1981. An increase of 18.5 pts from the year before.
In Bill Kazmaier prime, the only man that could even push him in most events was big Geoff Capes. Was a legitimate champion when he won in 83 and 85. Still, if Bill had been in those two nobody else would have walked away with the trophy. I don't think John Paul sigmasin could have knocked him off until 1986 or later. And John Paul would not have been messing around with bodybuilding if he had to deal with Kazmaier
Either could the strongmen of the 80's. Injuries have always been a part of the sport. Modern strongmen are quite a bit stronger, it has evolved just like all sports do.
modern strongmen lift about 15% more in world tournaments, but its controlled, static events almost always. Older events are fun to watch, they have more variety
I wish the cable toss was used today. Kaz is much stronger than everyone by far. The keg relay was the highlight for me this year. It would be awesome to have a sumo match with Shaw vs Bjorson.
Okay I'll say it Kaz and OD Wilson where robbed Kaz was robbed of possibly being one of the greatest strongest man competitor and they robbed OD of his one shot at being the world's strongest man in his short life.
2:40 imagine time traveling Zydrunas Savickas from 2011 to here, and he would rep the log 10 times with more to spare in his tank. Peoples and commentators reactions...
Shaw, Hall, thor, big z, strootman brothers.... What I noticed about these guys they all have heigh advanced... If they time travel back in them they will dominate it.

Had Bill Kaz tried to up the log press record, and had the steel bar bending not been in the competition, I think he could have pushed the record to about 450 lb. He looked good for over 400 lb for sure in this contest. That was like a warm-up rep on 360.

(I may look like a mad man for having thought about that for hours but now I know the deal so I kinda feel better 😌🤷♂️)
WHATS THE DIFERENCE BETWEEN 1981 AN 2022????? HOW MUCH JUICE U PUT IN UR BODY AN SOME HOW THEY GOT A LITTLE MORE JUICE TU WORK TODAY THAN THEY HAD THEN
All sports evolve especially at the elite level. Drug use isn't the only reason for that though just one piece of the complex puzzle. If simply putting more "juice" into your body made you an elite world class athlete then they wouldn't be as rare as they are then or today, everyone would be doing it.
I guess, not sure how much of a "rivalry" it really was though, Kaz was a FAR better strongman and Capes only did as well as he did because the promoters kept Kaz out of the show for years to give Capes a chance

@@paulstevenson7173 eddie would crush them badly in the static events but then he would lose in some others But yea he could definitely have won the competition. The sport has evolved so much
Nothing stupid about the truck pull, it remains one of the most popular and crowd pleasing events in Strongman to this day and is included in pretty much every World's Strongest Man as well as other high level pro competitions all the way down through the amateur ranks. Being heavier is an advantage at the start to get it rolling but there is a LOT more to it than just having extra bodyweight. There is a lot of technique and athleticism involved in harness pulling, and it also requires a high level of anaerobic conditioning as well as mental toughness. Those things matter much more than bodyweight. There are MANY examples in the sport of lighter men beating the heavier guys and even winning the event
Rest in peace, Geoff Capes

Kinda like watching the old strong men competitions. But that bar bending is so stupid. I hate it.
25:18 "uuhhaaaahhh" . . . . XD
god damn geoff looks doughy
Kaz had more steroids in him than the soviet olympic team.
How dumb was the bar bend?
This bar bend shit was one worse bullshit
The female announcer really is awful.. jeez
Kaz is roided up
I WANNA SEE EDDIE HALL VS THESE GUYS
Well I read Geoff Capes could bench press 300kgs, exactly the same as Eddie Halls max, Kaz could do 320kgs
@@paulstevenson7173 eddie would crush them badly in the static events but then he would lose in some others
But yea he could definitely have won the competition. The sport has evolved so much
@@alanhurst1766 I don't agree, I think Kaz in his prime was unstoppable
@@paulstevenson7173 yea he was unstoppable in the 80s but Eddie's but as far as static strength he got crushed by the likes of brian eddie and thor
@@alanhurst1766 Thor and Brian in my opinion are stronger than Eddie, but I maintain Kaz in his prime was the best
the old truck pull was stupid of course the heavier people would win it eas mass times acceleration
Weak legz cant pull the truck
AMERICAS STRONGEST MAN LOL...ALL THESE GUYS FROM USA

There's a Dutchman and a Brit here. And a Canadian
Arnold Is the worlds strongest man out of all of em

John Cena is the world's strongest man.
