Assassin's Creed Mirage Review

- Assassin's Creed Mirage reviewed by Jarrett Green on PlayStation 5, also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s return to the stealthy style that launched this series doesn’t do everything right, but everything it does feels like it was done with purpose. This means a shorter game with a smaller map, fewer collectibles, smaller scope in combat, and a limited selection of gear to play with - all of which is refreshing relative to the arguably bloated scale of 100-hour games like Odyssey and Valhalla. It’s easy to recommend Mirage to anyone who’s lapsed on Assassin’s Creed, as its back-to-basics approach is a successful first step in returning the feeling that the earlier industry-defining games gave us so long ago. - เกม

Like holding Y to collect things and pressing Y to picpocket things. Like.... previous games kept things more interesting. Especially Unity and Syndicate
My main issue with Mirage is how Basim is meant to be the fastest assassin ever lived. The fancy multi assassination where you just teleport is meant to represent the Animus failing to render because he's just moving too goddamn fast. Cool and all, but he runs so slow, he climbs so slow, and the time it takes to assassinate one dude to the next is just way too slow for the fastest assassin.
There's nothing worse than running away from the guards and then only to find yourself stuck standing on a pot like a sitting duck 💀
It’s a game, his speed isn’t mentioned the teleportation is just be a cool ability in the game
@@SamLewis18 Yeah because altait and ezio could do that
The whole game makes no sense not just that lol
@@FREEPALESTINEFTRTTS Atleast it represents us well
An Assassin’s Creed game that plays like Hitman might just be awesome. No requirements, just opportunities and numerous ways to assassinate the target. ❤
Then what's the difference in Ac and hitman?
@@thelastpersononearth9765well lots of people see Hitman as the ultimate stealth game, so AC taking elements from Hitman is not a bad thing.
No it’s not awesome
We wanted a game like odyssey
@@12gmkk29 I'm pretty sure it was quite obvious for a while that Mirage was going to be nothing like Odyssey
AC Syndicate had more open ended assassination levels
All they really need is a compelling story at this point, and Assassins Creed could really become a heavy hitter again. Imagine they take this stealth format to the next game, in a setting like ancient Japan, and bring in some writers who have something special. That could be Ubisoft's best selling game in the last 8 years.
Lol no it wouldn't be. Isn't valhalla their best selling game? And that game is bloated and mediocre

Woah vida animada, you are here.
There was nothing better than being outnumbered by multiple guards and picking each one off with a finisher every time you parried. It's this classic AC combat style that has me very excited!
literally same concept as Odyssey and Vallhalah (though excecution seems worse)
@@Guy_podI think you mean “back to basics”. To see how truly skilled you were at AC came down to how quickly and efficiently you could assassinate your target, and how well you could “instant kill” multiple guards with a perfect parry. Playing through AC 2 and ONLY using the 2x hidden blades for combat (when you’re surrounded) and coming out unscathed…ya, THAT is AC.
How do you do a finisher? Does it come later because the game hasnt mentioned it for me so far.

Big fan of the decision they made to sell this for a lower price being as it’s a shorter game 👍 if a game is only 20ish hours long it should not cost $70+

Ubisoft is a very jack of all trades, master of none type of publisher. Not even close to master either. Closer to dogshit.

We need a re-release of AC Unity. Would be so nice on current gen at 60fps with updated lighting, etc.
Ubisoft doesn't listen to us no matter how much we like this series smh
Unity already looks better than mirage
A major selling point of earlier games was the kill animations, which Ubisoft doesn't seem to quite understand. Some of my favorite moments in the AC series were experimenting with the different weapons and the wide variety of kill animations and combinations you can do in AC3.
The little "combo" you can do to quickly kill two enemies is an easy opening for some sick animation of your character smoothly transitioning from one enemy to another as the skilled swordsman they're trying to convince us he is, but instead you just..teleport from one enemy to the next, starting a completely different (or same) animation afterwards.
No one gives a damn about kill animations
@@SuperScarabyes they do
@@SuperScarabyes, they really do.
In terms of kill animations, even tho it was pre-rendered, Bayek putting that mask with the knife on the one dudes face in the beginning of the game will always be one of my favorite kills in AC. Bayeks English voice actor really sold that performance tbh.
Games journalism is busted if this game is an 8 lmao

Really wish we had a Prince of Persia trilogy Remake (Sands of time, Warrior Within and Two Thrones) with the same treatment Demon Souls, Dead Space and Resident Evil games had instead of releasing a new Assassin's Creed reskin every year
You call this a reskin even after the reviewer has said it's a departure from the past few games. But I'm with you on the PoP games. Especially the first one.
Sand of time did get a remake. But it's s*** tho....
Buddy of mine beat it in 2 days. I've got 10hrs playtime but just can't get into Mirage. Great graphics and soundtrack. My buddy agrees with me that Odyssey is the best AC game.
They need to make another ancient Greece AC. Kassandra (if you played with her), lived for a few thousand years. They could easily create another game with her.
Just completed Valhalla, (120hours) in.
And was curious about mirage. Seems interesting, since Valhalla's ending was pretty intense with basim.
Mirage is really showing just how far you can push the graphics capabilities of the PS2.. truly innovating
Visual design is far more important than graphical fidelity. Game looks amazing.
This is making me so happy! I’m glad they finally decided to go back to deeper stealth mechanics, that we can FINALLY kill anyone with one hit of the hidden blade (the way it worked the in previous entries was terrible), that they decided to create a smaller city and that the game is shorter. Can’t wait to try it out!
Ubisoft is unparalleled in there attention to detail when building these cities and landscapes over the last few Assasins Creed games. Absolutely beautiful.
Rockstar, CD project red , naughty dog , plenty do detail better lol
Play better games tard
When the Church of Notre Dame was burned badly, they reached out to Ubisoft for help in its design for rebuilding, that kind of detail.

@@JRPG1191Think you're missing the point that Ubisoft have been desperately trying to convince the fanbase that Mirage was going "back to their roots" and moving away from the recent RPG style gameplay we've seen in the last few games. Yet, here we are with another Origins/Odyssey clone.
The first assassins creed game in years that's actually an assassins creed game and not a bloated RPG
This is not a true reimagining of old school AC, this is Valhalla made to look like one, it's obvious from every angle this was a DLC.

Looks like a fun buy once a sale hits it.
However...my 258 hours of exploring Ancient Greece to Platinum AC Odyssey (duing the pandemic of course) were ALL worth it, one by one.

@@EternalNightingale they actually should have done that and just polished it with new animations and graphics. The AC3/AC4 combat system was clean asf. the RPG engine is so bad
The amount of overhype this game is getting is crazy. Ubisoft somehow has downgraded certain aspects from AC1 back in 2007 and people are still saying “this game is beautiful”. Goes to show standards are so low because developers have been pushing out terrible games lately.

It’s the jogging speed not sprinting speed
I'd say Basim's multi assassination is more like Batman's Fear multi-takedown in Arkham Knight instead of Deadeye
I'm very surprised reading some of these comments, I've played every single AC that's ever come out and for me this feels like a return to the series roots, what are people's main complaints about it? Really enjoying it so far.
Zero innovation. People feel like they are playing the same game over and over. There’s just nothing new that hasn’t been done before better
@@TheTregan that’s fair
@@TheTregan Sorry but Odyssey & Valhalla aren't innovation either. All they're doing is recreating the games original identity & slapping the same title on it. You want traditional RPG's go play The Witcher 3 or Dragon Age or somethin along those lines & stop trying to ruin everyone else's fun!
How is it that ubisoft been making those games for like 10 years and Ghost of tsushima comes out and has way way superior combat and stealth
because ubisoft doesnt care about quality

Valhalla was the WORST AC game I’ve ever played.
is there a setting to remove or minimize the hud? or a difficulty setting to not be able to highlight or see the markers about guards heads through walls and objects? its so immersion breaking. should look more like mgs or something. its not quite stealth if ur hand is being held and told what and where everything is.
It seems like people are seeing what they want to see with this game and remembering the older games for what they wanted them to be and not really as they were. This game uses the same engine as Valhalla, odyssey, and origins. It looks, feels, and plays identically to them except they’ve deliberately removed or modified mechanics. As for the old games they are nowhere near the stealth experience people think they were. Hell, the series didn’t even have a crouch option until Unity. Only the original game and large chunks of Unity would be considered stealth focused. All the others were swashbuckling, noisy , bombastic, combat heavy experiences.
Gonna pass this one for now, will grab it later on a 50% discount.
remember slow motion air assassinations? running assassinations that don't make you lose momentum? double assassinations?
Can we talk about how bad the cutscenes are? AC brotherhood had better and that game was made in 2010. It crazy to see the difference in quality between Mirage and AC games like Unity,Syndicate, and Origins.
