    When I first started the 90 degree backing I struggled like hell now I'm showing other students how to do it... my advice to everyone is the more you do it the better you get at it and don't let it frustrate you when you lose sight of the trailer in dew time you'll have more control than you do at home lol.. 👍🏽😉

    • @candali1
      @candali1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      agreed, repetitions is everything. After a while you won't need rigid rules, eyesight, speed, and timing is huge. I had lots of trouble with timing, I kept holding my right too long, and you correct/pull up constantly. trailer end is ahead of where your eyesight and brain tells you it is in the mirror. I often skip the mirror on cut right, until I know i'm on a line, then I go to the mirror. go slow, be patient, when you start getting the timing then you can speed up some.

    set up is everything on 90 deg back. what helped me was visually lining up the trailer rear in the Center of the box. too far back and you risk hitting the pass. side trailer, too far past center you can back a little then start your cut. for me its seeing dead center of the box, If my set up left me short of center I cut harder and sooner or if way short I may pull up more first, if im past center, I will back a little and maybe cut a little back and forth until I can see for sure and then I know i'm in there safely.

    Great video , I'm still rough around the edges W/alley docking ! my instructors are telling us to begin to straight back approximately 6 feet then turn the wheel hard to the right two full turn until you begin to see the trailer begin to bend the turn it back hard left twice and "trust the Left " my problem I keep coming up short to the alley box. I feel as if I need to wait a few more feet then begin my turn to the right hard but slowly back to the left and watch the trailer. Your video provides plenty of ideas.

    • @johncalvo1743
      @johncalvo1743 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Go Blue Remember: Small Cuts and Long Distance. All you need is ONE full right turn. As soon as you see your landing gear in your left mirror (maybe 3 seconds), STRAIGHTEN the wheel. Let the trailer drift until you see the rear left tire cross the imaginary line of the near cone, then go hard LEFT to straighten out. If you do this correctly you won't have to do ANY right turns after the initial one. This instructor screwed up because he would have DEMOLISHED the truck in the next lane.

    • @johncalvo1743
      @johncalvo1743 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@denn4367 It all depends on the truck, your tandems, etc. What might work one day might not work the next. The point is that you can make adjustments if you are drifting either way. Small cuts over long distances is the best way for beginners.
