- Hello my friends! I am flying solo for the month of January, and although I've done this quite a few times before (with Steve typically leaving for 6 week stints doing volunteer work), this time so far is feeling the hardest. I think the workload is greater - this metal roof on the house is my nemesis, plus we have more structures that require winter maintenance now. Plus there are more animals in the house now.
It has pretty much snowed every day since he left, and the last 3 days have been pouring rain. Its honestly disgusting - everything is SO wet and heavy and I am beginning to really panic a bit about some of the structures (they are showing signs of collapse!). Arg. The bobcat with snowblower attachment can't manage with this type of snow either, so ploughing the driveway has been such a struggle.
I've been trying to keep up with all the chores, especially the ski trail as its such a great thing to have with all the dogs and I use it daily. I edited out a lot of the struggles I had doing the grooming, so just know that I spent quite a bit of time digging myself out of things over the course of a few days. 🤪
First world problems though - everyone is doing well. I forgot to include that I took Lenny down to Pullman WA again for the day (a 14 hour day!) for a cardiology appointment. We came home with a Holter monitor on for 24 hours. His heart sounds normal now, the Chagas test was re-drawn and sent away, so hopefully we can get an answer in the next few weeks as to what's going on with the little guy (he is pretty happy and healthy as far as we can tell, although his baseline is different than the other dogs).
I had planned on sharing a personal story that related to how and why I came to my decision to begin participating in sponsored videos, but I just don't think anyone cares (honestly). It is what it is, it's not an easy decision for me, but the fact that it's been such a hard decision for me means that I need to challenge myself to it. We never really know what something is like in life if we don't experience it, and if we don't put ourselves out there to experience things and challenge ourselves, then we will miss out on opportunities to grow and evolve.
Steve's boat is looking amazing, and he is getting very excited about its completion. He is there to inspect the boat with a fine-toothed comb and make sure all the systems are installed correctly and working as they should. Steve is also a marine engineer, so this is right up his alley 😊
What are your thoughts about the channel updates? Should I keep the boat content on this channel? Or start a separate channel for that content? My preference would be to keep it on the same channel (honestly because it seems a bit easier to manage), but I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Michy, keep it all in one channel please! I watch for you and the little adventures. Boating around with Steve fits with all the random fun stuff you do, that I wish I could do. :) No problems from me on getting some monetization. I've watched your channel grow from the very start. I'm impressed you've kept pumping stuff out on a regular basis considering that coming up with content and video editing can quickly turn into a lot of work. :) Glad you're donating some of the money, you & Steve have big hearts.
Agree! I find it much more interesting to see how folks incorporate their passions within their broader lifestyles - whether that be dogs, lumber milling, cabin building, trail grooming, etc. I think the only challenge you will face is the very specialized nature of sailing and motor-sailing and there will be folks interested in the topic who might not 'find' the channel. Personally, like you, I enjoy the randomness and look forward to a bit of a surprise in each new video.

I'm a desert rat from Arizona who moved to Northern Washington. I had no clue as to the additional work that is involved related to the results from weather. In AZ every 10 years you paint. If skiing you drive to it...I snow skied and water skied in the same day...water skiing was much colder.

Just a follow up on the boat. She look’s definitely like a deep water girl with a beautiful interior. Big kudos to Steve for putting that handrail around the engine. If you have to be down there in a running sea checking things or doing repair or maintenance, that will really be a blessing. Something to hold on to can make a big difference doing something and keeping from bashing your head into the engine. Great planning Steve.

Ya she’s a beast! Technically called a sail-assisted trawler (equipped with a main sail and a jib of some sort). A steel hull as well, which makes for the perfect ocean going machine!

Love the snow videos the trail grooming reminded me of my younger days back in the 60's & 70's when my family and friends all had snowmobiles and we would ride them alot. When you went out to find your gloves at night was really cool.its so beautiful with all the snow on the trees and it's alot of snow to have to keep off roofs.hard work for sure.

I just today happened to find your channel and have enjoyed the few videos watched. Because you're sharing life; please keep everything on this channel...in one place. It'll actually be less work for you putting together content for one instead of two channels and life is busy enough without eventually getting burnt out and then feeling horrible because a channel would need to be dropped for your sanity sake.
The adventures on the channel are greatly enjoyed "wherever" life takes you and as I believe you already said,

With it, the world is your oyster. You can do whatever you want. I know I'll watch. But then, I'm former U.S. Navy and boats and ocean crossings are kinda my thing. I've been watching another channel, Acorn to Arrabella, since the beginning.
What you show on your channel as a lot of what I enjoy. Carpentry, outdoors, dogs, and believe it or not SNOW. Winter is my favorite season. But, here in Illinois, USA, we don't have any snow. None. At all. So when Steve gets his boat out of (it looks like Asia....Vietnam? Philippines?), I'll watch that too.
We used to get snow like that , don't mind it so much now . Such a wonderful setting you folks live in .

She is now 74 years old and starting to slow down a little, but she can still work as strong as most people I have seen (maybe you are the exception and I love her dearly.
