Jumping into the Taiwan Strait. (Ft. a visit from the Taiwan Coast Guard)

- The storm we got into made us turn back a little bit and head to a small port on the coast of Taiwan. It was the safe choice, and therefore the right one. We were bombarded by government officials once we arrived, and it took nearly the whole day to check in, and then to basically check out again right away based on a weather window. We will never know what all of this would have been like if we didn't have two Chinese crew on board (for those that don't know, there is a lot of tension between Taiwan and China). But having both Fido and Captain Wang was so crucial being that we don't speak Chinese and language barriers were a continual problem.
Once we left that harbour, we had a beautiful calm sea all the way to our final destination - a port outside of Taipei City. Steve, Ian and I went swimming in the Taiwan straight - what fun that was! (I never received the footage of Ian's plunge, but he did it). The sea temperature was 29-30 degrees celsius! After that we were approached by the Taiwan coast guard. Word got out about this Canadian yacht with three Canadians and two Chinese crew, so they kept a very close eye on us! They were kind and offering help if we needed, on a couple of different occasions. Otherwise our sail/journey was calm, cool, and collected 😊
Once in Taipei we were again bombarded by more government officials. All of this was rather painful, yet entertaining at the same time. We said goodbye to Fido and Captain Wang, who were never allowed to set foot on land, and had to be escorted to the airport (nearly in handcuffs! haha). The funny thing was they all got along so well (Captain Wang and Fido spent hours 'shooting the shit' with the staff on guard).
We spent about 3 days at the marina cleaning the boat, and getting it set to rest for a few months time. We will return in the fall to take her to Japan.
This ends the pacific crossing adventures for now - we are home and reunited with our beloved pets whom we missed dearly.
Thank you all so much for watching, and see you in the next video on more familiar territory! 💝

This series has been fantastic. Bummer y’all had to leave the boat but better safe than sorry. Homecoming to the dogs….best thing ever. What an adventure!!
My favourite part about getting home, seeing the pets reactions ❤🙂
same..👍..made me tear up..😂😪..love dogs! good vid series!
@@danielhaynas5723 I've enjoyed this series also, what a great ending to this episode.
Woo hoo, Michelle and Steve , glad your both home safe and sound, and with some very interesting memories to tell the dogs! What an adventure of "breaking in" a new boat, fixing loose things and breakdowns, and navigating the bureaucracy! Thank you so much for including us all on this trip. We all managed to fit quite nicely on board!
I love this little Diesel Duck, and I'm so glad you got the flying bridge version! I'm looking forward to seeing her navigating around the Canadian sounds and coastline in the future.
Now, back to chainsaws, logs, precision cuts and making it up as you go along! Cheers from NZL, David. ❤🛥⚓🛂
Love the boating adventures with Steve. Very interesting and looked stressful in that part of the world. Can’t wait for part two of your boat journey. Loved the dog reunion!
Wow what an adventure that you have shared with us, Steve and Michelle! Most of us will never get to experience anything like that so thank you! I bet it is so nice to be back home. Take care and have nice weekend! Steve
Michy & Steve Thank You for inviting us for this special time in your life. All are safe is the main thing. 👍👍😊
I love the dogs. They are precious.
This was really enjoyable, as a dog person I cannot help but think about the time you miss out on when away from our fur kids every time we travel without them.
I enjoyed this exciting and sometimes a bit scary adventure, but I must say what touched my heart. The most is your reunion with your puppies and the love that you have for them. Thank you for bringing us along.
That was an awesome vid. Ha “Cpt Wang’s language”….😂😂😂😂 I snorted I laughed so hard at that.
Loved the part with the dog.❤Hell of an adventure.
Hi Steve and Michy, I was so looking forward to your trip to Japan, my ship's homeport was Yokosuka and I was so looking forward to you guys visiting Japan. I love Japan, it is a beautiful country as well as the people. Taipei was another favorite place of mine. That was really nice of Michy to visit the dog at the CG station and play with it. I do hope you did some videoing in Japan and will show us at a later date. Thanks so much for taking us along on your journey home. By the way, Happy Canada.
MG, this has been an amazing addition to your channel, and I can't thank you enough for sharing it with everyone. You and Steve both have hearts of gold, and your play time with Little Louie, was such a great treat for him. He'll never forget you.
I think I was as thrilled to see the sails unfurl as Steve was! 💙
Michelle and Steve. You guys likely know Im a regular follower. This series of episodes was an incredible adventure for you, but what a wonderful adventure and experience it turned out for me! And I want to thank you guys for that. I could write a mile of content, but I have decided to just keep it short, because I know you guys are really busy. I cant close without saying how emotionally touched I was , when you guys got home to your dogs. My dogs are my kids now, since Im now an old man of 70. Im still dealing with my "dog" tears, as I finish my comments. Please let me close by saying that Michelle and Steve are some of the coolest people on this planet. Id like to wish you both a lifetime of peace, harmony, prosperity, and happiness. More than anything, please please continue the life and experiences that you guys share with us.
awww….yes that hand holding leap was romantic 😍 yes you do take for a good photo 😇 that new boat does luck fabulous the more we get to see it on screen….will be great watching you’re adventures which have already started 😊
A very strange world we live in. I've read that travelling is the highest value a person can get for the money, from learning about new people and places and the experiences one gets from it. Being somewhat homebound I appreciate doing it through you and yours.
So true. Travel is also the best education and a great antidote to racism and prejudice. And I do mean travel, not vacationing.
@@DigiLab360 Good grief.
Whew!! Now I can breathe. Glad to get a video from you and see what's been going on and know that ur home for a few months until the fall.
Good shakedown cruise.
I bet the Coastguard personnel with the cameras taking videos had their own TH-cam videos. Ha!
When you returned to where the dogs were they musta been dreaming that you were back when they saw you and Steve.
Bet you can't wait to get out to the mill and the cabin on the cliff.
Glad you are all home.
Michy, it is so good to see you reunited with your bestie beasties! Lenny looks so good and really happy to have you both home. Clyde seemed to not believe it was really you and not a dream! What an adventure for you and Steve with more to look forward to in the fall, on that beautiful Pelagic, but selfishly I'm glad you are back safe in your own forest with you furry family and l look forward to seeing what creative projects you tackle next.
Clyde has been quite happy these days, so I definitely think he missed us. He’s had an extra spring in his step on out walks, which he tolerates wondering what it is we’re doing (rather than him out on his own ‘hunting’) 😂
Big thanks for taking us along, this was a hugely interesting and entertaining series. Looking forward to your next endeavour.
Great series of a thrilling adventure you posted. I had lived in HK for 14 years, Macau for 8 years and Canada for 41 years, I have also been to Taiwan and Guangzhou. When watching your series, I have more in-depth understanding of your situation and be able to enjoy the videos even more. Thanks for sharing. By the way, the boat is so beautiful ! Glad to see both you and Steve came home safely.
Michelle and Steve, sorry things didn't go quite as planned but then what adventure does? Sure glad to have you back home. Enjoy your dogs. Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂
Another awesome adventure, hopefully captain Steve could show us more about that awesome boat, I bet it's rated for some real rugged conditions. It always tugs at my heart strings when making and leaving new little furry friends and being reignited with our little homeys when missions has been achieved, being able to capture these moments are always priceless. Thanks
So glad to see this part of the boat adventure was safe and avoided the storms of the far east. Can’t wait for more builds on the cabin on the cliff.
Glad to see you both are well and safe. Take care 👍🇨🇦
Loved this ! Thank you for this wonderful video journey, you two are a joy to watch.
Love you both and thank you for the vids which take us along with you on your sparkling adventures. And the dogs all love you too! Best wishes from the UK.
My favorite parts: #1: getting to see your fur babies again; #2: thinking that your crew were saying, "See Ya - thanks for the nice boat" when you and Steve jumped overboard! LOL! So happy that y'all're finally home. Looking forward to your next video. 🙂
Oh, that was an amazing adventure and great filming, editing and content! The adventure will continue.
Thanks for inviting us along!!
Very enjoyable getting to share your adventures. Steve's my hero... for so many reasons. 😉Ha! He does love to tinker... and you love to build. You both are great at making a lot of work for yourselves! LOL! I'm exhausted just watching the both of you fix and build things. But hey, once in a while can't we just stop somewhere for a great meal and a drink? 🍹🙏
Loved the past series! Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us!
So relieved and glad to see You Guys home!! Safe and Sound!!
That one lucky dog tied to the tree and your homecoming with the babies has got me all tearful
So glad to see you home safe. Thanks for taking us along.
Thank you for taking us on your journey. It was very enjoyable and can’t wait to see what new adventures you were going to take us on.
Your love for dogs is awesome...its just me and my Bexar..lab/Pyrenees..14 this year..I love him, been my best friend for 14 years.
The irony of the Sawmill Queen cutting her finger made me smile. Glad it was the only injury. The pooches obviously had a good time too, thanks for having us along on your adventure.
This was fantastic, congratulations to you and Steve on your beautifull ship!!
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us! 🙏 Glad you made it home safe and sound to be with your fur fam!
Great fun. Thank you for the videos. Love the doggy reunions. Very sweet.
Glad you made it to safe harbor and all the way home. Reuniting with the family members left behind is always special. Thanks for the episode.
Wow what memories you two will have. Glad all was safe and the dogs must are so happy to see you guys again! Looking forward to the next video as always. Take care.
Loving this series!!! Thanks michy!
what a great lil adventure and such an amazing learning experience. it had it all.. new panoramic views, the organized chaos that is running and maintaning a small vessel, as well as international politics. I mean these last 3 videos have just opened my eyes to a world i never would have imagine existed. So glad you and your spouse made it home safely and the dogs are in high spirits. Thank you for uploading, and hopefully we get to see you finish up your mountain side cabin retreat, cause i thought you building that was pretty badass, but now that you and your hubs are also international sea matees that is also awesome.
All very interesting, but seeing the doggos🐶😍 again is certainly the highlight! Glad to see you made it back, safe and sound! 👍
Welcome home! ❤ And yes, I teared up with both the dog you befriended and when you got back home to see the fur babies. Good stuff. Makes you appreciate the little things doesn’t it?
A lot of your experience I wasn’t expecting. Always looking forward to your Sunday videos. 🙋♂️🐈🐈
So sweet seeing how glad your animal pals were to see ya'll. Great series, thanks Michy, Steve!
Enjoyed the content! Glad you made it home safe. All the furry family members were certainly glad to see you!
Great series, I got a little choked up seeing you with
Little Louie, knowing how I share the love of animals as you do, and then of course your reuniting with your own, sent me over the edge, lol, thanks for sharing, CHEERS!
Sure is a beautiful boat Steve👍 Thanks sharing with us Michelle ❤️
Beautiful boat. Glad you arrived in Taipei and home safe and sound. Your babies were very happy to see Mom and Dad back. Quite the adventure I must say.
What a crazy trip Michelle. I hope the ship is worth it. I'm happy you, Steve and Ian survived the trip with no issues. I definitely have enjoyed this unusual adventure in your life.
Thanks for taking us on your adventure 😁👍✌❤🙏
This series was great! Thank you for sharing 👍
I’m just catching up with your adventure. And it’s been quite the adventure. Thank you for your contact. I love it. And I’m so happy the dogs were all OK when you got home.
... nice, to see you back home with your pupps again - what an adventure! I really enjoyed the vids about your trip with the boat back home. This was really a serious and long "project" and it's nice that in the end everything went fine and the boat is home now! Greetings from Germany from the silver fox, David 😉🦊
please take another trip.....that was great you guys are so fun.looking to take another one soon
Wow!!! What a great adventure. Traveling by boat sure is tougher than it was fifty years ago!! Looking forward to more adventures on land too!!❤
Thought of You guys all week. So glad you made it back.
Glad your home Kiddo. Safe from a long foreign journey. You and Steve should be proud of your journey. I’m camping in Colorado. Enjoying the mountains. Glad you guys are home safely.
@15:35 Clyde: " Oh, I was just dreaming about you mummy and here you are! "
Yeah... Not the usual.
Absolutely awesome you shared with us!!!
Thanks!
I think you're both off your rockers for taking on this adventure, but I'm so glad to hear you're back home and safe!
Welcome home. Such a entertaining voyage, thank you for sharing. Your pets were so happy to see you both, joyful family reunion. Bummer you had to leave your boat, but your home safe.
Thanks for the adventure, glad to see you and Steve made it back home. I know the dogs were glad to see you were back.
wow, The homecoming with the doggie's 🐶and to see Lenny, he looks 👀 really
good 👍Thank the good Lord, you.Steve and the dog's all back home !!
Your home safely and your little fur babies looked so happy to see you!
I thought it was tense when I watched you build a small cabin on the side of a mountain but this stuff is insane! Be safe, enjoy the ride👍👍👍😎🇨🇱
AMAZING adventure! Amazing boat! Amazing crew! Great ending! ....for now. Looking forward to the rest of the journey.
What an adventure ! Thanks for sharing & welcome home
Boy Taipai wasn't playing with the two Chinese men. The pictures and video at the end on the docks was a bit much. Loved seeing your dogs. That really made my day. Animals and nature in general are so often overlooked in the Western society
I really enjoyed this change up. I look forward to your next project at home and then the boat journey.
How Cool.....what an adventure!??....loved seeing these videos!!
its a huge world out there. however, you two have made it a little bit smaller for us sofa nomads (web co-pilots). you guys truly are a blast. this was the most extensive trip that i have had to China. thank you steve & michy quest
I really enjoyed the journey on your new boat, it was amazing to see so much regulation and paperwork that goes into it all. A real insight for us who have never traveled to a foreign country. Glad you are all home safe and reunited with your furry friends 😊
The paper work was insane. Japan might be worse from what we’re told.
I was just looking and hoping to see your next episode…now I get to watch!!!
That was great..
Glad your home safe and sound..
Thanks for sharing
It's always good to be home safe. Love the dogs
Enjoyed this very much. Thanks for sharing the adventure!
So glad you guys made it home safely and reunited with the animals!
What a beautiful journey and places you have been. Glad that you are safe home.
wonderful video.. praying for safe keeping of the boat.. Great to see all the dogs..
So good to have you home save! With all the best from Hamburg,Germany.
Taiwanese Coast Guard was so polite and helpful. Wish I could say the same about the U.S. Coast Guard and Sheriff patrols on Puget Sound and the Columbia River. I solo sailed around Vancouver Island(My departure and return point was near Olympia, Washington) in a Blanchard Jr.the summer I graduated from H.S. in 1965. Never had a problem with Canadian officialdom or the U.S. Coast Guard back in that day, but things changed for the worst with the Drug Wars and 9/11. I grew up in the Okanogan Valley on an apple orchard and we spent a lot of time in B.C as my dad was a golfer of some note. To bad you had to leave the furry buddy in Taiwan. He seemed to be a keeper.
,,,,,some good vid & photographs! Nice..thanks for taking us along. New Mexico
Glad you guys made it home safely. Love ols Clyde....
Thanks again for the 'extra' videos. I hope that there are more boating trips in the future to share with us. Now, I am not a dog person, but the reunion clips at the end were very touching. - cheers
Seeing you both returning home was a relief. Anytime you are on foreign soil out of you comfort zone it’s never 100% safe. Happy to see you home and how the dogs have missed you. Clyde brought tears to my eyes such a sweet old man of a dog.
Welcome home and belated happy Canada Day. So thankful that you, Steve and Ian have arrived home safely. Trusting that your finger is on the mend. It was great seeing you using the sails rather than just motoring along on diesel. Wishing you and your furry family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace princess
Wonderful but sad video so glad you and Steve are home safe sad your voyage was cut short looking forward to your progress at your cabin on the cliff this summer and the continuation of the voyage this fall stay safe MLR.
Looks like a very exciting time. Glad you are home safe and sound.
Michelle & Steve, I am very thankful you are home safe. Yes I am aware of the tensions there and all over this world. I have friends that live in Taiwan and it is troubling for sure. I am keeping all in my prayers. TY for the amazing video and the picture of your boat. God bless you all mightily! ~John
That was such a cool video, what a great life! You two are awesome, and the dogs too!!!
lovely, you've got such a good character. Glad it all went relative well and looking forward to see what you're going to do next
That’s quite the adventure and the boat is gorgeous
👍👌👏 Home sweet home. Hooray! 🙌 I'm glad that you are back at last! To be honest: Nearly your whole "boat trip" was painful to watch for me and I'm happy to see that you two stayed healthy at least (although your bank account might be very ill now). 😁 ;-)
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved life forms (humans and animals).
Bonjour Michelle et Steve bienvenue !! what an adventure to say the least. thanks for sharing this with us all. great job. some of us will never see china or taiwan. you're the best
Your fur babies sure missed you as much as you missed them and Steve yeah have a blessed July 4 th Weekend Much Love From Dan's Custom Wood Working Homestead
Greatly enjoyed the boat content. Happy to see you safely made it back home.
What a adventure. It was nice to see you were running the wheels off the bike you brought. Lol. Just had to say something
Well I think I’ll buy a boat locally myself. But thank you so much for taking me along on Steve’s big adventure that I’m guessing isn’t over yet. Wow is all I can say. Glad your home safe and sound. TY again for taking me some place I know I would never have seen without you
Just saw this via the mill wow pleasantly surprised y'all be safe,it takes special people to TH-cam the best are the ones that show we are all the same
