- My general thoughts on how to use the Work Tab. As the video states: as long as your people are doing things in the right order then you are doing it correctly.
There's a ton of other nuances and quirks to consider but I tried to cram in what I thought were the most important into these 22 minutes.

It took me several months of playing before realizing that the little icons in the corner of the work tab boxes represents passions. Hopefully this lets other who don't know yet know as well. It has saved me countless minutes checking the bio tab.
You’re telling me it shows the passions in the work tab???!!! Bruh I’ve been playing since release and have been checking the bio tab every time
Same! I watched videos which had people looking at the work tab and knowing what everyone's passions are and I'm just sitting there befuddled going like "well, the work tab obviously shows passions somehow, but I am totally lost as to where."
Took me... ooof I can't remember how long... far too long anyhow, to figure it out.
Don't feel bad it took me two years to figure out the auto attack/flee/hide buttons.
I have nearly 4k hours, and i did not now about shift clicking the columns.
Stored this in my Rimworld Playlist
One really strong method to control work is to use the benches bills to restrict by skill. This is great for Cooking, smithing, tailoring, crafting, and art priories. If a pawn doesn't have enough skill to craft items with the quality you want, they can still cut stone blocks, smelt, and make Psychite tea without making really awful devilstrand dusters or gas station sushi tier meals. This might mean needing more benches so mind your builds.
To keep pawns from idling, I find it is good for each pawn to have a 'black hole' as you put it at the end of their priorities. Something they can just do forever. Research, scanning, or block cutting works great, just remember to have enough benches.
Just remember if you have one pawn hyper-specialize and no one else has been skilling up, the colony will suffer hard if they suffer an accident.
Yeaaah. _Especially_ with doctors. It's always great if you only have one doctor and they get sick or are bleeding out. Self-tending has a malus to effectiveness _on top of_ the manipulation and consciousness penalties being sick or wounded give you. Having only one doctor is pretty much a death sentence for your colony unless you are lucky.
I usually have at least three colonists with at least four or five medical. And a mod that makes it so only the doctors with the best medical success chance preforms surgery (taking into account a pawns heath as well as skill) so the backup doc with only four medical and a wooden arm doesn't get the idea that he should be the one preforming a brain surgery when the level twenty doc is right next door. Gideon's Quality Surgeon Reborn. Fantastic mod.
My go to is set firefighting to 2, patent to one, and everything else maxes out at 2, aside from the good doctors who also get doctoring at 1.
I used to have firefighting at 1 until I I had a run where people died because they had gotten shot but instead of getting to the hospital they bled out trying to fight a fire. And then they caught on fire. and the doctors were also so obsessed with the fire I had to keep micromanaging them to stop trying to beat it out and save the guys dying in the hospital.
Now, the dying getting to a bed, and getting a doctor to go treat them is my only #1 priority. But I could see how in some situations firfighting is more important. A wooden hospital for instance. Not much use laying in bed if the bed is on fire, but I make my bases nonflammable so fire isn't that much of a life-or-death issue for me, mostly it's just to save loot or some crop fields.
When that happens i just remove the part i dont want them to firefight from the home area
Yep firefight 1 is important definitely micro those situations when they arise.
Thanks for your hard work on this. Much obliged.
You have a very soothing voice my man :D Thank you for another awesome guide!
Great video, especially for new beginners like me!
Thank you for all the work.
sorry i have to say this
0:37 babies can't feed themselves, but you were right on the child can teach themselves
True. Good point. I forgot to mention that. I usually just switch the mother.
tbese videos are far better than ones with much more views. nicely done.
Black hole job is a good term for it though I prefer never finish or infinity job.
i always thought of the worktab as a computer reading from left to right 4 times, once for 1s then for 2s and so on
Another great video as always
Thanks for another great guide.
Appreciate this I learned a few things despite playing for years and following this game for a while longer. I didn't know about the shift click to raise all priority. That'll be great when I want them to plant.
I was playing a bit ago and thought it be great to have a seasonal schedule.
great summary
Remember! Hauling Hauling Hauling!
Good summary, thanks!
Saved to playlist
this is the best work tab guide i've seen, my autistic ass thanks u o7
Good guide!
Sweet vid bro! Suggestion though, any chance you can use a software that mellows out the fluctuations of volume in your voice, and makes it more consistent? I can't remember what Adam uses not sure if it's hardware or software that makes the biggest difference. Cheers mate, once again love the content.
I've noticed that too and trying to use software to make all the volumes even. This video was made a month ago and I wasn't sure if 1.5 was going to change it so I sat on it. I think in some of the previous videos, which were actually more recently made, I did somewhat of a better job.
I certainly understand it and working on it.
@@MortalSmurphno worries cobber! In the same breath, some people might like that dynamic volume change when people get excitable. I noticed this was an issue last night when I watched part of a playthrough of yours, you equipped a lad with a jade club and he hit someone in the neck and killed him in one go. While it was quite funny that change of volume meant I had to switch it off for my circumstances haha as there were no closed captions on that video either 👍 I actually started to doze off (in a good way) around the 16m mark as your delivery in this instructable was clear, concise, steady and easy to understand
@@MortalSmurphThe audio is fine.
U should do a video on manging bills, and storage layout if you have any tips on them.
Make a video about insert bait please.
Nice
Base building vid next?
I know there is a mod for everything, but never really found a mod that "fixes" the doctor thing... i hate the extreme micro required around doctors
something like "no really, unless you are dying yourself, you are a doctor, if someone needs a doctor, you don't get to eat/sleep/play/medidate/anything"
hurr durr priority 1
Yep priority 1 for anyone with passion and 2 for normal pawns. Doctors are extremely valuable considering the amount of situations and events that will affect your pawns plus surgeries. I keep them in the back with rifles or not in combat at all. Train unskilled doctors on animals or minor injuries and sickness.
Bonk!
You mentioned the little icons in the corner mean passions? Which corner? I can't find these icons 😢
The little flame icons on the bottom right of the priority button. One flame is a minor passion, two means a burning passion.
Why dont you add chapters to your video
the same reason you don't add punctuation to your comment.
