    3:06 really? That astronomical clock is the oldest existing functioning astronomical clock in the world. Definitely the most famous one. It is an engineering marvel 600 years old. There is pretty much nothing like this anywhere in the world. It's not about the 'show', it's about realizing that this is one of the most complex ancient mechanims.

    Hey Raya! Nice shots from Prague! Let me just explain some of the things you came across and wasn't really sure what they are...the statue you wondered about on the Charles Bridge is the statue of St. John of Nepomuk, who, according to the legend, didn't want to tell Czech king Wenceslas IV a confessional secret of his wife...therefore he ended up being tortured and thrown from the Charles Bridge into the river where he drawn...he has the fanciest casket in the St. Vitus Cathedral all made out of pure silver...
    Also, that "traditional" pastry originally comes from Romania from Transylvania. Hungarians would go to war over the fact that it's their national pastry. Long story short - it's never really been in Prague until about 10 years ago :-)
    Oh and lastly, Astronomical Clock is not worth the crowds only if you don't know how does it work...if you do, it's pretty cool medieval artwork.
    Cheers,
    Mike

    I hope Honest Prague Guide doesn't see the video and especially you holding that trdelnik*... because it's not traditional at all. Prague is one of my top cities!
    I love you and your videos so much. Hope you have an amazing time in Europe.

      but why does he keep saying its not ? i m confused !
      When i first came to Prague back in 2015 i had probably 6 trdelniks in a week!
      I freakin love them but i thought it was Hungarian.

    • @vierasukubova3174
      @vierasukubova3174 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      It has been czech "tradition" of last 15-20 years. It is originally from parts of today's Romania from where it was brought to Hungary and in last few years it is spread everywhere around central Europe promoted as very traditional local speciality. Honest Prague guide does not like that downtown Prague is full of not czech enterpreneurs who made look Trdelnik as very old traditional thing here and that these people made Prague 1 place with no real value for tourists and local people as well because it is full of tourist traps like one claiming that trdelnik has hundreds of years history here.

      mynameisondra it's still fucking good tho...honest guide brags about trdelník being not Czech yet the best ice cream in Prague he tells you to eat is Italian...I don't think it's bad thing to get trdelník when tourists go here at all...there aren't many countries that sell them like that, at least i haven't seen them to be sold in that huge amount anywhere else so why not

    • @cerlecky
      @cerlecky 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      trdelník has nothing to do with Czech republic, its made from shit and tastes like a shit and its overpriced as well...

    • @adrianasokolovicova3704
      @adrianasokolovicova3704 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      grumpy impjee it is overpriced...terribly overpriced. But tell me which famous thing in any country isn't overpriced? And I wouldn't say it tastes like shit...if it tasted like shit people wouldn't buy it and it wouldn't be so popular.

    • @zsoltpapp3363
      @zsoltpapp3363 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      grumpy juice - it is not czech and yes the ones in Prg. taste like shit. I would not say they are expensive as you don't get an empty mug for 2 euros in most european cities, but i would eat some sausages instead. Sausages are also not czech and even dumplings are not czech and pertzels are not czech these are all over Germany, but they are still traditional in CR and have regional mutations which you can only find in CR. Generally the food is very good in CR -
      my favorite is the 'tatarák' - and eating out is rather cheap in my opinion, however i miss the spicy hot things but you can't have everything, everywhere. The service in pubs, restaurants could be better it is not the best in the CEE region.

      You can travel Prague for pretty cheap if you stay out of the tourist traps, asks locals about the best restaurants. All the younger people speak English. I was born there and love to go visit, it's so beautiful. I recommend spring, summer and early fall. Lufthansa has the best deals lately. Best of luck! 😍

      That is not completely true. Goulash is present in every central european country now and yes it comes originally from Hungary but the czech one is flavored really differently, and it comes with dumplings - only the name comes from Hungary it is a different dish. And for americans it really does not make a difference if they are in Czechia, Chechnya or Hungary for most of the time.

    Vegan goulash is (in Czech republic) as traditional as using smartphone. Roughly the same lenght of tradition, right there. "Trdelník" - the pastry you showed us - is as much as unauthentical, as vegan goulash. The pastry showed up roughly 10-15 years back. Until that NO-ONE did actually make(& eat) it in Czech republic. The statue rubbing is not a local habit. Until western and far eastern tourist did appear, the statues were considered NEVER to be touched by traffic attenders.

    That's how you spell your name in all slavic languages I believe, at least the ones that use Cyrillic. That was my great grandma's name.
