Thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful series. One of the most beautiful train stations in the world. Thank God it wasn't pulled down in the 60s and replaced with some awful brutalist monstrosity. Loved watching the different and interesting characters involved in this huge project. Will appreciate even more now the work that went into redeveloping the station.
I didn't see the hair detail until you mentioned it! The guy had a cancer scare for God's sake live him alone! The other guys just got the money and are part of greeting the queen, the architect is the most important to built a building and he was not chosen!
If you were one of the many thousands responsible for the renovation of this iconic railway cathedral I wish to thank you. I am a train driver who drives into St. Pancras almost daily, and never an entrance into this grand station doesn't leave me open-mouthed in admiration. It is, in my opinion, the greatest railway station in the world.
The roof right behind the brick building fits well, but who had the shitty idea to put a square glass roof right behind it? Fits like a fist on the eye...
So we've seen tight deadlines, missed deadlines, minor and major snags... but nothing raises the tension as much as the visit from the Queen. Brilliant. :)
Servius The Bear That maybe your opinion but the vast majority believes she represents us as a country in more ways than anyone could ever believe. We may not need the monarchy ro live, but we would lose our heritage and heart if we did to become just yet another dull republic which would end up costing us more with loss of tourism and prestige. We don't need an out dated idea to carry on living. All they are is a tourist attraction. Who has money which can be used to help actual fix the damn UK. If anything if god lives. Monarchies become outdated once more than 50% of the electorate think so. Right now, the European monarchies show no sign, at all, of disappearing, with the possible exception of Belgium and Spain. The Danes, Swedes, Norwegians, Dutch, Luxembourgers, Liechtensteiners, and Monegasques, all love their monarchies. And then there's Andorra (with the French president and a Spanish bishop as co-princes), and, of course, the Pope. As for the UK, let's not even go there.

Do you think the queen is interested in shaking a mans hand, who has a enchanted forest in his nostrils? 8:56 , this little woman runs around , wonder why every little detail isnt finished. its because the jobs still ongoing, & the workers arent awaiting a tour to approve a 2million dollar bonus for them, YOU are the one awaiting that 2 million dollar bonus, So YOU fix what you want fixed, or better yet, instead of offering the guys who work 36 hour shifts a CHANCE at a free car, why not just pay every guy who works a certain number of hours , a portion of that 2 million bonus? We all know why that didnt happen, but if we're being honest, the people who worked hardest to build, got the least.
The ending with Alastair made me tear up a little bit, this project was nearly the end of his life. What a good series.
Thanks for making these available, really annoying that the BBC spends all this money making a program then only showing it once.
