  • Krishnan talks about Morrissey's new autobiography with writer and broadcaster, Amy Lamé - a die-hard Morrissey fan. And the author and journalist, Tim Lott..with a little help from Jon Snow.

    That Lott guy had no place to talk about anything in this, regardless of if you are a fan of Morrissey or not, to talk in such a way is completely disreprectful and even quite ignorant. Morrissey has been writing for a long, he's worked very hard and his writings are good. So what you're a published author on the classics? Stop trying to make yourself seem like a massive big deal? This is the same debate in the art world, "oh I spent a month on this painting and your 1 hour painting is in the gallery and not mine how dare you!" - "yeah, but my painting is now more liked than yours"

    Morrissey is pretty much unique as a musician, as in many of his lyrics stand up as poetry. In fact I'd put him up there with Ginsberg and Kerouac - or rather our uniquely British version of a beat-poet. He gave romanticism back to the country that gave it to the world.

    Morrissey, legend, true poet laureate, there is true and reflective prose that encompasses social history and the emotions reflected in it, regardless of whether the royals have the intellect to recognise this. Tim Lott, sorry I don't know who you are, I'll do my best to read your book, but times move forward and if music is the vehicle that carries his poetry, don't get angry and self righteous. Understand that we still ride horses but the motor vehicle just moves faster. Music is the way he encompasses and reaches a wider audience. I hate to say this but maybe penguin recognise in the distant future he will be remembered, loved and respected for his ability to use langue as a tool by many more people than you will be. sounds like you got a case of the sour grapes, lol

    A lifelong Morrissey fan, but I have to agree with Tim Lott. It's way too early for us to judge a book as a classic, in its very release, even if written by such an acclaimed writer and cultural icon. Penguin should have waited and gauged. Even Bob Dylan who has written books for half a century now hasn't gotten his dues, and we all know he's no less capable a writer.

    I feel very sorry for Tim Lott in this "discussion". Amy Lamè is wearing blinkers so tight to her face, she can see no wider than a pin prick and Krishnan is siding with Amy so fiercely that poor Tim can't get his point across at all.
    Of course Tim is right, no matter how good anything is it can't become a "classic" instantly; it goes against the definition of it.
    Classic - "judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind".

    • @dogsanthem
      @dogsanthem 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed. Tim Lott essentially says, no matter how esteemed you cannot judge a book as a classic for a long time. Amy Lame's response is to say, "But Morrissey is one of the greatest cultural icons this country has ever produced." Thus, she clearly is incapable of understanding Lott's point.

    I really love Morrissey and I've enjoyed so much the book. In my opinion, it's very well-written, such as his lyrics.I mostly agree with Lott because this woman has no reasonable argument, just how she loves Morrissey. I do love him as well, I can be a crazy fan sometimes but, come on, if you don't have proper arguments to defend something like this, then why do you accept to come on television? Has anybody noticed how does she get more and more nervous as the interview goes on? That's because she's not quite sure of what to say against Lott. What I'm trying to say is: Press and television is behind all this, they could have called anyone else who knows what to say, but they want it to look this way...

    • @seriousbinch3749
      @seriousbinch3749 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She's getting more agitated, not "nervous". She can't believe that someone who is comparing their work to the likes of A Clockwork Orange is being as narrow-minded as to say that Morrissey's writing, whether lyrically or in his book, isn't as important as being an author. Morrissey has changed the musical landscape of modern history, whereas this a***hole is angry that Penguin have recognised this, because they know how important he is to British history.
