    That is a great idea that I have used but sort of forgot about. My 1930's bench grinder needed new bearings so I decided to powder coat the cast iron case and other parts, so I will try the turkey fryer again. I actually bought it to heat a cast iron pot full of used lead bullets from the range, which I cast and reload. My first experience with powder coating was to coat my cast bullets but I just shake in a plastic container with air soft bbs and then bake. Spray paint sucks so bad that I got fed up with using it to finish parts or products I have made on my cnc plasma table and fabricated. Even dealing with the DV Eastwood gun and learning process is better than spray paint and while I was a pro painter and could shoot various types of paint, it is a mess and expensive to do especially for a home shop without a booth. Simple green is also the cleaner we use in my parent's scissor and clipper blade businesses for cleaning parts in the ultrasonic machines. Thanks for the video to remind me and explain the ratio!

    great idea the only problem I can see is yes its defiantly cleaning the part but its still sitting in the same old nasty greasy water . If there were some way to keep fresh hot clean water circulating through it would be ideal but a good hack none the less thanks for putting the video up !

    It seems to do a good job of removing the paint/powder coat, too! I wonder if a 55 gallon steel drum with the solution heated to 180⁰F-200⁰F can be used as degreaser and stripper? Would be cheaper and less toxic than other chemicals.

      I cant imagine it does a great job doing it on anything in good shape. Factory paint on 20 year old valve covers for sure though lol

    I was wondering if you have any recomendations to someone starting out regarding using stripper? Is there a certain blasting set up that could reduce the need of chemical strip? Thank you

    • @UnknownCoatings
      @UnknownCoatings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah but you are going to need a VERY large compressor to do it. You may want to look for a local sand blaster near you who can blast your products and you just coat them. I appreciate the kind words!

    Another awesome video, thanks for the help, what pressure would you recommend blasting at? We use glass grit (medium) and glass bead at the moment.

    • @UnknownCoatings
      @UnknownCoatings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blast pressure is usually determined by the media you use, nozzle size and CFM. I blast at around 55psi with green diamond moving 21 cfm

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UnknownCoatings Does the green diamond 30/60 work ok in a siphon feed cabinet? I have modified mine to the popular bottom feed with an air venturi and I run a skat blast gun with the largest nozzle (20-24 cfm) and get 20 cfm from my compressor while running. It works quite well, although maybe not as fast as the pressure feed pots........I'm assuming people use those just for the better media feed. It keeps up at 40-60 psi with garnet or aluminum oxide. I used glass bead before but it isn't aggressive enough. The garnet is a bit dusty and I see a number of powder coaters like the green diamond and I have heard 10x is expensive and maybe not good for the siphon setups. It would be good to know if green diamond is good to go rather than wasting a bag of it.
