    the term DMV was created to describe the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the city and it’s surrounding suburbs. It started on radio stations in the area to describe the rap scene when it first started. Washington, D.C. is the city and it’s suburbs are in Maryland and Virginia. The Maryland suburban counties are Montgomery & Prince George’s Counties. The Virginia counties are Fairfax, Arlington, and Loudon counties and the City of Alexandria. Baltimore is a separate metropolitan area even though it’s close, it’s not a suburb of DC. It also has a very different slang and music influence, they are more similar to the NYC culture in my opinion. The DMV is basically where the Metro goes, train & bus.

    I must say I love living here (Waldorf) unlike the other black successful black areas in the US, the DMV is driven by education and government status. I’m originally from the south and the predominantly black wealthy areas down there are just superficial in my opinion.The DMV isn’t perfect, but I love that my children are being raised here.

    Honorable mention suggestion: Columbia, Maryland. Almost half way between DC and Baltimore. Black population is about 30 % and growing. Very culturaly diverse population, progressive, well educated, clean, beautiful, lots of amenities and Howard county schools are ranked #1 in the state. Maryland schools are in the top 10 in the country. Also home to one of the best outdoor music venues - Merrieather Post Pavilion where The Soulful Symphony became the resident orchestra in 2019. Led by Composer Darin Atwater - the symphony is made up of predominantly black musicians and includes a choir. Columbia was the first planned community in the country and was deliberately integrated from the start. Worth googling the history and wirthy of consideration.

  • @rsmage1219

    The DMV means the DC Metropolitan area only. I hate that shit. DC niggas needs to stop saying DMV and this is why. You would need to do 3 different videos, one on the DC area, one for the Baltimore area (unless you want to combine them as The Baltimore-Washington combined statistical metropolitan area into one video). Then one for Virginia which has 3 major metropolitan areas DC (NoVA), Richmond & Hampton Roads... These are all different areas, different cities, different vibes/cultures and in no way shape or form form "The DMV". I am from DC/PG and I do not approve of "The DMV" as a nickname for the DC area and this is why, It creates misinformation and misunderstanding. But great info nonetheless.

    • @rsmage1219
      @rsmage1219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you would like to correct this video. Just remove "DMV" from the title and description.
      DMV = The DC Metropolitan Area
      DC, Maryland and Virginia = The DC Metropolitan Area, The State of Maryland, and The State of Virginia.
      Two different things
      I don't approve of the term DMV as a nickname for The DC area but this will at least help with the confusion.

    Alot of folks that aren’t front he DMV don’t know that the DMV doesn’t technically include any cities and counties that are outside of the surrounding city of DC and are not accessible by the Metro. While the bottom 3 as well as Waldorf are technically in MD and VA, those of us that live here don’t consider them the DMV since it is not surrounding the immediate area of Washington DC.
    The only counties that would be considered apart of the DMV would be PG County , Montgomery County, Fairfax County, and Arlington County.

      @@evolvedempress8953 if you arent from here, I can see your point. But DMV represents the areas that 495 goes through. This is why anne arundel county, charles county, and baltimore are never discussed as part of dmv locally. Matter of fact, bmore is only about 35min away, and its a world of difference. Same for tysons corner is drastically different from richmond

      @@evolvedempress8953 Virginia is a fairly large state and you cannot include all of it in the DMV. The "V" in DMV really means the Virginia suburbs of DC. Hampton is about 180 miles from DC, which means it is NOT part of the DMV.

    Nicely done, my only criticism was that the B-roll doesn't match the area. Many of the views showcased of "Takoma Park" where actually not at all TP, I didn't see most of the commonly seen landscapes in TP and I also saw views of far away places like Clarksburg and recycled views from previously showcased areas. TP absolutely does not have all of those tall buildings.

      I noticed that too. I used to hang out in TP when I was a kid and remember there being high and mid rise apartments and all that but many old Victorian and bungalow style houses too.
