Well, he does "read" comments
I don't understand why so many people are commenting on Tommy saying words such as "look", "see", and "watch" as if they're taboo to come out of a blind person's mouth. Why should the vision impaired speak phrases any differently than a sighted person does? Besides, he's talking to his viewers, and most of us can indeed see what he's referring to.
I'm an atheist and I say stuff like "hell no" "oh god" etc. even though those concepts mean nothing to me.
It's just how language works, you pick those phrases up when you're a kid and they stick.
To me I think it is kind of funny because I think. But dude you cant see
For me, it's not that people comment on that language that kinda ticks me off, but when people think they're being very funny by pointing it out. Like, someone will say something like "He said 'Oh I see that,' BUT HE'S BLIND!! Hahaha, I'm so funny!!!"

It's Nandini - not sure if you remember me. I was lucky enough to speak to you on the phone for a cool campaign I was working on with my agency. We bonded because I told you how I'm legally blind and your videos really inspire me and help me be more comfortable with the fact that I might go completely blind in the future. I just wanted to remind you again of how helpful your videos are. I've had a rough month but I always feel a sense of comfort and peace when I sit down to watch one of your videos.

I'm curious, now that you've brought this up. Would it be good for you to wrap gifts in a way that uses more senses? For example, textured wrapping paper, different textures of ribbon, maybe tying bells or cinnamon sticks into the bow so that instead of flat wrapped gift, it feels... I don't know, more special-occasion-ish?
But if they aren't all wrapped the same how would he know he was inside?
tobiosnmakky I'm not sure what you mean... The wrapping paper I'm referring to would be like any other wrapping, except instead of flat glossy paper and ribbon, I'm thinking of textured paper, perhaps with raised patterns or flocking on the paper, and ribbons in fabrics like velvet or burlap. The bows would be on the outside as well, so it would be like opening any other gift, except it would have a few more sensory elements to it- texture, sound, smell, etc.
Plus, if he's opening the gift with other people, they can tell him when he's in! 😁

Laynie Fingers Last christmas my family celebrated we did textured wrapping paper. We are all very into design and since we are all grown we didn't want childish wrapping paper so we found some that was silver and textured. We usually use bags with different papers inside and make our own bows with strings, ribbons, or paper. Plus there are tons of ways to make bows. Sometimes just the way you wrap something can be interesting. I'm sure these types of things would be really fun for people who are blind like you said.

Would be amusing to hear his opinion about VR, though. I do wonder how good or bad sound design in VR games is. Kinda disappointing that there'd be no chance of fun motion sickness B-roll.
Besides, he'd probably know who to give it to if he didn't want to keep it.

If I had a blind friend or family member, I would wrap their presents a little bit differently, I would add some things for a confusing sound or weird feeling things, maybe some good smelling perfume or something like this... :)

Hey Tommy! I just want to thank you for answering all of these questions. I really wish that in health education class when we were little that we would learn about other people's impairments. For example I've always wanted to help a blind person cross the street when I see them but I was too afraid of startling them or doing something wrong or making them feel bad that I never did. I have literally sat at the corner of a street to make sure that the blind person that I saw got across the street ok. Now I know from you video how to offer to help. Similarly there was a guy in a wheel chair that was struggling to get up a hill but he was my age and looking very determined and I wasn't sure if I offered to help would I be making him feel bad. If I could learn the proper way to offer help I feel like I could be a lot more useful and make a lot more new friends. Anyway I just really appreciate your zest for life and your willingness to share with us. Happy holidays!
Hey Lauren! If you want to help someone in a wheelchair with ramps or doors, just ask. I use a wheelchair, and personally I appreciate it when someone offers help. Don't just assume that someone needs help. People have often opened doors for me that I wasn't going into in the first place, and have started pushing me up ramps without telling me (NEVER TOUCH A PERSON'S WHEELCHAIR WITHOUT PERMISSION, it's terrifying and has given me panic attacks in the past). Truthfully, it's annoying when people just assume that I need help. Asking is good :)
+Eryn Goodman Perfect! Thanks for the great advice!! Should I ask if they "need help" or is there a better way of saying it, like "hey can lend a hand" or something, I just know sometimes "help" can be a sensitive word if someone is defensive

Probably because even though I'm sighted and I love seeing the world I was always fascinated about how the other senses can create such a different but also rich experience. So much so that once I spent a whole day blindfolded. it was amazing! When i received an iPad for Christmas 2 years ago, I was confused because i just felt a box. My sisters had gotten the same gift and reacted loudly. I had a ten second reaction delay since my parents had to tell me what it was. I then matched my sisters' responses.
