I'm curious to ask if you have a way of finding cheap parts to replicate/simulate a cheaper version of the steel O ring version? These are like way over pricey right now and around 40 to 60 dollars. But its only like 5 bucks of parts. Any ideas? Thanks.
Honestly the cheapest way to replace this is to go ahead a buy some hose clamps and use those in place of the rings. Adds a bit of weight but for two to 3 bucks a piece, that's what I'd do!
You could buy a flashing kit, although these are normally used for canvas tents.and generally need a double or triple wall pipe to be used safelt. Or just buy a replacement stove jack pannel and cut it to the appropriate size. If I were you I'd buy a new stove jack.
Whoever does this just make sure not to cut the hole like this. You do not want a gap around the chimney to allow water in and more importantly you want it tight to hold the pipe in the wind. 36 years of wall tent experience helps you learn a thing or 2.
With a wall tent you use a flashing kit on a canvas material. Flashing kits aren't designed for this fiberglass material. (Especially because they add extra weight). 🙄
@@noahriding5780 Not trying to show anybody up. I'm 100% right and I was trying to be informative and educate people that might attempt this on their $3500 tent. Been using a wall tent since the 80s with literal years staying in one. That makes me an expert on the topic.
I had tried that in the past and found that after using it a few times the section where the "x" was cut had a tendency to rip further. So I cut all the little sections out now and that seems to work better for me.
I have a Tegimen hot tent. The top of the tent is 75 inches high, How high should the chimney extend above the peak of the roof? The titanium stove pipe that came with my stove Pomoly stove is 119 long. With the spark arrestor at the top, it's stands 143 inches tall! How much should I cut off, and what should I do with the piece that I cut off?
I'd keep the base of the spart arrestor at least 2x feet above the peak of the tent. You could store extra for repair materials if needed but I'd probably just throw the excess put honestly.
When you cut the hole into your actual tent, do you simply just cut it and leave it or do you have to burn the edges a little to keep it from ripping or anything like that??
If you are cutting the stove jack hole you will have to sew the area. Fold the seams over and throw a stitch into it. I'm assuming you're asking for install the square pannel correct?
These are supposed to be fiberglass which I think is rated to a bit above 300 degrees. But not sure how they age over time. Do they hold up under the heat and work? Or how long did it last? I'm curious over time how things went after the video went. I want to do one but the metal ring type cost about 5 times the cost of one of the ones you are doing and that seems like a lot of lost money to me. And thank you for the video.
The fiberglass sheet stays in direct contact with the stoce pipe trip after trip. I have several hot tents with the same stove jack design and they've held up well over time.

I’m wondering why you need to cut the flaps off. Don’t they help keep rain out?
A bit but honestly they make it more likely to run and tear with repeated uses
Thank you, that was a great tutorial!
Glad it helped!
How do you prevent water from getting in at the hole by the chimney
You don't. If the stove is running and it rains it just dries up.
Does rain get inside?
If it does the stove dries it up instantly
Love ur videos❤️
Julie! Thanks for popping by! We're keeping busy up here!
Looks easy!
Yep it easy
Would u do the same for a tipi shaped tent! Because it almost is more of an oval shape
Yes the stove jack I cut in this video was for a tipi tent so I use this same method. Works like a charm. Good luck with you're new stove.
Thanks
You're welcome 😊

Cool. You are very helpful. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you.
Looks like you're having fun. Your links are extensive (under show more). That's a great resource. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thanks so much for the attention to my attention to detail! Lol 😆
I have a jack with a 3.5-inch diameter hole, but my pipe is 2.5 in diameter. Is there a way to fix this after-the-fact?

I got a wonderful stainless stove on Amazon. With coupon it was only$111. Used it twice but still need to properly install.
Good luck with it!!!

After cutting the square, why not just leave the 4 quarters of material in place and push the pipe up & through? Should prevent better water runoff.
I had tried that in the past and found that after using it a few times the section where the "x" was cut had a tendency to rip further. So I cut all the little sections out now and that seems to work better for me.
@@LoneCrowAdventures I see your point. Did you have to cut a slight oval for the pitch?

@@LoneCrowAdventures Thank you very much.
Anyone can cut a hole in a stovejack. The critical issue is how to secure it to a tent or tarp
Most of the time velcro is used
@@LoneCrowAdventures That's what I use but I've seen videos of people using heat resistant silicone.
