Use a large pencil sharpener and a stick (round) of wood to make kindling. So so so much easier than using a knife, and you get good uniform pieces. I have a pencil sharpener added to my survival kit. My dad taught me to make a stove like yours. We used it every night when camping, and the log was just part of the landscape so we moved it to our fire pit, and then removed it when making a campfire later. We didn't use our portable stove once, and this rocket stove cooked everything faster than the portable stove.
I'm not an outdoorsman. I hate everything about being out in the wilderness. But for some reason I love these types of videos. I sometimes wish I could just live out my days in a cabin surrounded by snow. Even though I enjoy the comforts of city life. Thanks for showing me how to make a useful stove should I ever be in need of one in the wild.
Let me give you a cooking tip you can use indoors as well as outdoors. Boil the sausage or anything frozen, like your hash browns. That way they will cook more thoroughly as well as faster. Otherwise your sausage will be cooked on the outside but not on the inside. You only need a very small amount of water, maybe 1/4 of an inch will do. Just let it boil off. Your breakfast will be done sooner and be cooked all the way through. Enjoy.
I think we all should have a dog. Every child should grow up with one. It teaches a child responsibility. Provides companionship, responsibility and makes a good guard dog. Alerts you of intruders, it is beneficial when camping or hiking to chase away even the biggest of animals or alert you of danger. Dogs don’t last as long as humans. That of course is sad but it’s also part of life. If your children have pets and one dies it of course is sad but it prepares them for when an elderly family member dies. Studies have shown that it prepares them to understand how to deal with death when, for instance, grampa or gramma dies. Teaching your children through having pets is a good life lesson in many ways. Of course all this comes from an animal lover. I’m 77 and I’ve had a dog with me my entire life.
Very cool! I have an Alaskan Malamute named Blitz. Most reliable hiking partner I've ever had. "The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog." --Mark Twain. Happy Holidays.
Great little video! My dogs bring me happiness beyond words. I have a chocolate Lab named “Hugo” who is 12 in April and a black Lab named “Ralph” who was 2 in December. I had a cracking black Lab named “Charlie” who I lost on 16th January 2022. I still think about him every day….
I’ve had a dog in my home for the last 48 years: several setters (Irish or English), a lab mix, a golden retriever/collie, and now a Pyrenees Mountain Dog. They are a gift from the Creator to remind us of how we are to live.
Thank you for taking the time to make a post about the simplest most cherished times in life, man, his dog, and the best nature has to offer. I hope your dog is better. I have a 9 yr old Rottweiler named Momo and he couldn't take his eyes off the screen each time your dog came on.
Love it brotha!! Got 2 Aussies and 2 papillons !! 2 big- 2 small!! They're my babies till the end and love them with everything I have !! They're amazing companions and if we could only know what they're saying to us , if you pay close enough attention they're hearts speak to us and we can understand, don't know where I'd be without them !! Definitely a great vid to show the kids a skill !!
Had a black Labrador called Barney. He used to come on all our Scout camps. Some of our kids couldn't have pets so Barney became everyone's pet for the duration of the camp. It was great watching a team of Scouts picking him up to get him over large 'A' framed styles. The best friend I ever had and sadly missed.
Fantastic auger, stove, food, etc. Hope Amber's ear heals quickly. Was getting a little worried, Dustin. Hadn't seen a video in a minute, even looked to make sure I was still subscribed last week. Assumed you've been busy teaching this time of year, but haven't heard you speak about that in a while. Hope all is well! 👍🇺🇲
Shepherd/Pit Mix (named her Harley). I don't know who likes camping more, me or Harley. She's got 8 yrs on her now & camping brings out her inner puppy. Bringing her along greatly enhances my camping experience. Great vid
We have a Chihuahua. He may be mixed with a little something else too. He's real cool. I was just telling my wife, your dog reminds me of my childhood Dog, "Charlie ". But yeah, it looks like your having a good time out there. Thanks for the video.
First vid of yours that I've seen. Very enjoyable. Awesom dog. The mall looks fantastic. I like your chair very much! I just hapoened to have ordered an auger that arrived a couple of days ago. I'm looking forward to trying out this project with it. The handle on that knife was beautiful!
Wonderful viewing👏👏 Have only just now had this appear on my feed. Subscribed 👍 I envy your organisational skills and the location and the canine companionship😍 A version I suppose, of the ‘Swedish torch’ A safer and more efficient type of ‘campfire’ (if you have organised or are lucky enough to find ‘the wood’) Have looked at the shop and will be ordering 👍 Even your iron skillet pan looks the dog’s danglies, I have an older border collie companion. He has not had this type of trip. He would really enjoy a holiday in this style
Awesome dog and video. I live up in the high mountains in North Carolina USA..My dog Willie.. an amazing Staffordshire....all mountain dog.. I sure miss him. Thanks
That is a great, inexpensive way to have an outdoor stove. I love it! Definitely a keeper in my survival playlist. I have had many dogs over the years, and my present one is a chawawa mixed with pug She has the tippcel chawawa attitude with strangers but loves my wife and I and older women.
Erebus - He's a four year, old Great Dane * Mastiff. A fabulous dog that is quite funny and enjoys hikes in mountains and back country. Enjoyed your post!
Look! Pippin's outdoor living channel. Cool. Looks like a great hobbit breakfast as well. Sorry. Just rewatched the LotR trilogy over New Years and this hit me funny. Love the video, your pup, and style of video.
dogs are really best companion....we have 4 dogs....a rottweiler, a pinscher, a rescuedog from hungary (a small one) and a big dog 8size of a greyhound) and i wouldn't want to miss any of them...and hell...the pans are great...i have 2 of them
Great clip. Just a tip, you would find turning the scotch eyed auger a lot easier, having your hands more apart and at the ends of the wooden handle (more "fulcrum" leverage with less energy) ... very helpful informative video. cheers. all the best from NZ 🌿
Thank you. Great video. Will try this at our camp. I have a Finnish Lapphund. Best dog I ever owned. We spend 3 or 4 days in our camp in the woods northern Ontario
GREAT VIDEO !! CAN'T WAIT TO TRY THIS. Hope your pup feels better soon !! You don't see many RED labs, although they are becoming increasingly popular. I have a SILVER lab "Asher," my third lab. They are THE BEST !!!
Hello from Aurora Ohio USA! I just found your channel and I am absolutely delighted watching you and Amber on your adventures. I have a 12-year old miniature dachshund and her name is Reagan. Amber is beautiful and so devoted to you. You can see how much she loves you! Have subscribed to see more of you and Amber.
We used to have Yorkshire Terrier. He was barely breathing and mom opened my door and told me to take a look at him with scared glance. I took him to my hands and then he stopped breathing. He had something with his heart. He's the best friend I ever had after all those terrible years of bullying and not meeting the best people. I am happy I could have met him. I will never forget him. Akim passed away 2,5 years ago.. on 31.12.2021.
thank you very much guys. I still miss him sometimes. Akim taught me so much. I think I don't ever find better friend/doggy then he was to me. I mean he was a part of our family. The best doggy ever😭😢
Awh....this so sad....dogs are the best ❤. I lost 1 too, wich i loved so much. It was a good choice to start with another one shortly after this. The missing faded and it"s great to have the companionship and friendship. ❤
Yes. I did something very similar last evening. It was great. I'll be going through the 2-year-old pile of dry hardwoods that is not split to get more experience in making fantastic fire sources.
I have a wire haired pointer griffon. A very good dog. A good hunter.very mellow. Barks at any noise. Loves to hunt game birds. His name is Jake Spoon. Jake
Well done. Sent off for said auger recently and now will definitely try it out. Nice hint on securing handle. Also, have heard of "fatwood' but didn't know what it was. Do now. Thanks

Wishing Amber Well, I Have A Blue Nose Pitbull And He's Such A Great Dog. People Just Don't Know What Awesome Dogs They Can Be. Bad Owners Give Them A Bad Name.
Great video and beautiful girl you have there. Sadly our choccy lab passed in May at the great age of 13. Seeing yours and the interactions brings back so many familiar and fun times with ours. They are truly man's best friend. Keep up the great work and loving what you do. 👍
Towards Ambers ear care

Do you do all that work to make the fire last longer? We just hit the log with an axe in two directions cracking it down and light it from the middle.
Great video and beautiful girl you have there. Sadly our choccy lab passed in May at the great age of 13. Seeing yours and the interactions brings back so many familiar and fun times with ours. They are truly man's best friend. Keep up the great work and loving what you do. 👍
