    In case anyone is concerned, in the US, warranty void stickers are technically illegal and not enforceable grounds to refuse warranty service. They are used by companies to scare consumers into using first party repair services instead of third party, or independent, services.

    FYI Elliot, developers won't have access to reprogram the smaller Cyclone 10 FPGA. That's where the Analogue OS, the scaling and IO stuff sits. The actual system cores run on the Altera Cyclone V, that's the chip developers will have access to be able to build custom cores:

    Looks like the 10 pin header under the battery is a jtag port, used to access the fpgas and config flash chips inside. They probably flash the production firmware and run diagnostics through it at the factory. Everything looks beautifully designed, may have to pick one up at some point.

The wait for them is only going to get longer as they cannot source the chips in turn this will increase the cost. As "fun" as these might be you are emulating original hardware of something that is iconic. It's a show piece for people who want to take endless photos of the damn things for insta and reddit.

    • @null140
      @null140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bowersindustry The company is relying on the fact that what constitutes 'emulation' is a debatable philosophical problem that most people looking for some gaming are not going to want to debate. It's kind of smart, because most people's understanding of what 'an emulator' is is a piece of software. So what they're saying is that the games are not being interpreted by software. But yes, the device itself is literally emulating what a Game Boy does, so there is--to be accurate--emulation involved. The duplicity of the marketing spiel is that I think many people are being sold on some kind of idea of techno-purity, which speaks to some kind of aesthetic elitism, pretty unfounded by facts. Emulator devices do a great job outputting and providing exactly the kind of experience the Pocket can.

      @@supermaster2012 The nickel-and-diming on the ‘accessories’ (the components that constitute the logical complete package which in sum cost over the cost of the base unit) is the biggest red flag to me. It’s like a games company cutting off bits of a game and selling it as paid DLC on top of a AAA price tag. Enough of this cynical consumerist wallet-r*pe, we need to have more dignity than to buy every overpriced fashion token we’re marketed. Depending on the country, those void warranty stickers may not be legally binding, or even legal for the manufacturer to apply at all

    Seems you can disassemble without removing the " VOID sticker".
    Remove the shoulder button assembly... pull down on the back cover and remove as shown in video... and the screw behind the sticker is THERE 😆
    No idea whats the sticker for 🤷‍♂

    And yet I sent off my Pocket for repair to Analogue because I had A button and to a lesser extent, B button input issues, where it would miss inputs around 10% of the time. I received it back and it still has the same issues and they basically responded saying it was my fault for pressing the buttons in a non-typical way. I don't know what to do now as I'm not doing anything non-typical when I'm playing and I feel they should have just replaced my unit. Any suggestions?

    MAN, any one else get anxious watching him take it apart on a wood table? I always put down a microfiber cloth, like those terry cloth microfiber cloths not the eyeglass ones, so there's a bit of cushion, or a hand towel from the bathroom since I only have about 20 of them, since I have 5 bathrooms, with two non-working or questionable state toilets. Old house, bought from the bank.

    Thanks for this. My Analogue was in storage for about 4 months, And it was charged. now I tried turning it on, battery is completely dead it shows a red exclamation point Next to the battery percentage. if you hook up the charger it doesn’t charge although it does turn on and functions. Email analogue support as it’s still on warranty, but if all else fails I’ll have to try replacing the battery myself some way.

    How come the link cable isn't compatible with the DMG Game Boy? - did Nintendo change the cable for their Pocket and newer Game Boys?

  • @SonicBoone56

    Let's hope they make one without the awful Game Boy layout. Was mega disappointed that they never made a version that's horizontal and has the buttons on the side of the screen like every handheld does nowadays. Just a much better design than this form over function Game Boy nostalgia design. If I'm paying that much, I want it to not cramp my hands after a few minutes.

    if sth broken, there is nothing to replace by yourself - except the battery. I personally dont like if there is really everything on one board - because there is actually nothing to test out and to replace in the future.
