does it mean the plastic version also gets as hot, and we aren't aware of it until it's too late ? due to the unit being destroyed by the heat stroke. hmmmm. i guess time will tell. :(
Metal conducts heat very easily and it encases more heat as well. Plastic doesn't have that same problem, the heat can get out just fine. I don't think the metal one gets warm enough to cause much problems though. Battery would drain a bit faster and the battery would degrade faster, but that's about it. Electronics can usually withstand some heat.
Surely Analogue are investing (wasting) money in designing and producing these? Surely they'd be better off investing that time and money into a new product. Either that, or if they're looking to make some pennies for their next project, just re-release some of their other consoles. Maybe the Mega SG or Super NT but with the ability to use save states. Maybe release a redesigned Nes for people who missed out on the original NT and NT mini. There's so much more they could be doing over keep rehashing the pocket, and there seems to be a market for the above products. I'd personally love to see an Analogue Ps1, or Saturn, or even both in one unit (which I doubt they'd do). It's not like these haven't been implemented into fpga yet either.
I loved the design and concept of the pocket and almost gave in many times. Haven't seen anything so I randomly go to there website and see a $499 edition of their pocket device and instantly had to see what other would say about it. If it was $300 it would be pushing it but damn $499 + shipping with taxes makes it an almost $600 device. Absolutely not, now if they make an OLED "limited" edition maybe I'll give in but they'll just probably push the price even higher knowing while many will complain there will always be those who buy it.
@Madlittlepixel would you be able to do a follow up video? I’d love to know how warm the new pocket gets from a room temp cold start to compare with after regular game play.

I showed the weighing of it in the video as picture in picture, also put the weight in text afterwards. was maybe 4 ounces more... something like that.
If analogue wants me to spend that kind of money on a device I already own, they better at the very least put a perfect replica of the neo geo pocket mini stick...
I’m glad you got one. I know personally you’re against this business model but as you said you are a business as well and sometimes you have to bite the bullet. You should make a video now of 10 ways to better spend $500 if you are a collector 😅
Glad I picked the Noir color. Looks beautiful. It's a butt load of money for sure - but with expendable income, I had to have it. Way overpriced, but the sting isn't so bad when comparing to other metal builds (e.g. boxy pixel, etc.).
Analogue is supposed to release an N64 FPGA console in 2024, and they haven't even shown the console yet, let alone giving us a release window or a price. Instead they are fleecing customers as much as possible with these overpriced devices while claiming the plastic Pocket is out of stock. This company is a complete mess.
I was enjoying this video and right when you started talking about grainage,.. the mushrooms kicked in. Next thing I know I had an ATM receipt in my hand that said insufficient funds and a Robert Mitchum noir was on TV !
$500 for a novelty device that people tinker with for a few hours to test out ROMs before it inevitably collects dust in a drawer. Seems like a good idea.
I wouldnt say its a novelty device, $500 is dumb though for the Aluminum version. But my original plastic Analogue Pocket is probably one of my most used consoles for the past few years. Obviously I cant speak for everyone as I am sure many probably have let theirs collect dust.. but I get a lot of use out of mine. So yeah dont spend $500 for these, if actually intrigued by what it does wait to get a normal version.
Glad you got one (at what price/trade you did)! It's hard to compare to other consoles, in my opinion. Yes, you can get a Steam Deck; but for people like me, I get motion sickness watching 3d graphics for too long! So I stick with my 2D graphics....hence, I love my Pocket!
Sad how expensive new portable electronics are (phones/consoles/etc). I bet if Sony or Microsoft were to release a new portable console it would be around what this thing costs. After your review, yeah definite pass.
i've got black classic version + dock... cool stuff but loading time on big games (NeoGeo / CPS / IREM) is a mess !!! and when i want to play quick for 10min for exemple... i take my rg35xx... shame on me, but damn the loading time dude !!!
This was one where I didnt think the purchase id make up the money in views, but the trade was mostly stuff I received for review so it kind of made sense to me. If the video does ok, than thats a bonus

I love aluminum handhelds, love that color of grey, and I can afford it. I bought the noir, can’t wait to hear all the people who think they’re better at spending my hard earned money than I am.
Mine came today, played for about
30 mins feels heavy very we’ll built
High quality CNC machine, need more time to see how hot it gets
On the original one the plastic on the bottom is so sharp. It just cuts into my pinky all the time. When I hold it. Do the metal ones do the same?
And it is uneven on the usb port. That's an impudence on top at this price point.
You can get a pc for that price !
Or a decent laptop. I just watched this video on my new Hp laptop that I paid $350 for, lol!
I honestly had faith that you would keep the "not worth it, period" position...
@Madlittlepixel would you be able to do a follow up video? I’d love to know how warm the new pocket gets from a room temp cold start to compare with after regular game play.
lol, $500 hand warmer.
I would never pay $500 for a small handheld console I rather buy another Steam Deck instead for $500
I’m selling mine for 350 bucks
Analogue:😂😂😂
Us: 🤤🤤🤤
I thought you hated it and Analogue! Trading is no different to buying it, you still spent the money. Shame on you.
I was going to order a Noir and the Purple one but i actually resisted! I think our chat and the video helped a bit. Seeing your unboxing i felt the FOMO but it will pass or so im hoping lol. Thanks for the content and gratz on getting one. Deep down...I knew ya would 😆
🤣 The driver blazin made the case hot! I love it.
It better be me made of Moon Rock or something lol. Its exactly the same as my Transparent Red. They know we're suckers.
The original got warm so not surprised a metal version gets hot.
How much more does it weigh? Did I miss that in your video?
I showed the weighing of it in the video as picture in picture, also put the weight in text afterwards. was maybe 4 ounces more... something like that.
@@Madlittlepixelsorry I missed it. Thanks for the info!
Mine doesn't even get remotely warm.
Mine is also hot like a mf 😢 i hate it. Thanks for the video
I always thought the initial release was going to be alloy but then it was plastic. They really dropped the ball on this one.
If analogue wants me to spend that kind of money on a device I already own, they better at the very least put a perfect replica of the neo geo pocket mini stick...
Ok Mr. "I'm never going to get this... like ever. The price is insane."
I’m glad you got one. I know personally you’re against this business model but as you said you are a business as well and sometimes you have to bite the bullet. You should make a video now of 10 ways to better spend $500 if you are a collector 😅
Overpriced
Yea the blue one my favorite color is the one that always sells out with every limited edition they do so makes it hard for me to get one that I want
hard pass at any price, looks nice though
Glad I picked the Noir color. Looks beautiful. It's a butt load of money for sure - but with expendable income, I had to have it.
Way overpriced, but the sting isn't so bad when comparing to other metal builds (e.g. boxy pixel, etc.).
Lmao I knew you were gonna get one that’s so funny
Analogue is supposed to release an N64 FPGA console in 2024, and they haven't even shown the console yet, let alone giving us a release window or a price.
Instead they are fleecing customers as much as possible with these overpriced devices while claiming the plastic Pocket is out of stock.
This company is a complete mess.
I was enjoying this video and right when you started talking about grainage,.. the mushrooms kicked in. Next thing I know I had an ATM receipt in my hand that said insufficient funds and a Robert
Mitchum noir was on TV !
Bro what
$500 for a novelty device that people tinker with for a few hours to test out ROMs before it inevitably collects dust in a drawer.
I cant justify buying this, but I do appreciate you covering this, sir. Always enjoy your takes.
So thats $746 Australian no thanks 🙏🏼
Plus Shipping + Taxes
Seeing the NT Mini makes me want a bog-standard NT.
Dude 500 bucks, that's way overpriced, at best it's worth 80 bucks
80 bucks? Your dumb
What core is this?
I knew you would get one, lol. Glad you warned us!
And to think i was crazy buying a 100$ metal gold controller lol
Idk why anyone would buy this besides collecting of course, you could just buy a normal analogue pocket or just buy a modded gameboy for so much less.
Sad how expensive new portable electronics are (phones/consoles/etc). I bet if Sony or Microsoft were to release a new portable console it would be around what this thing costs. After your review, yeah definite pass.
The color thing - almost like dithering in print??
i've got black classic version + dock... cool stuff but loading time on big games (NeoGeo / CPS / IREM) is a mess !!! and when i want to play quick for 10min for exemple... i take my rg35xx... shame on me, but damn the loading time dude !!!
Yep that thing is going to overheat… calling it now
The trade will probably make up the cost hopefully from the views.
This was one where I didnt think the purchase id make up the money in views, but the trade was mostly stuff I received for review so it kind of made sense to me. If the video does ok, than thats a bonus
People are really upset what a grown man does with his money?
The same people that will buy vga sealed and graded products (video games) for thousands. But act like this thing has no use.
I love aluminum handhelds, love that color of grey, and I can afford it. I bought the noir, can’t wait to hear all the people who think they’re better at spending my hard earned money than I am. Sorry, can’t hear you over my smile!
Did you really ANALogue to get one?
Way to expensive to even consider not even for hobbiest at that price
How limited are they anybody know?
You said you weren't getting one and you did anyway all these you tubers say the same thing and they all will get one it's ridiculous
I wish they rerelease the NT mini.
What a ripoff smh
A whole episode on the crazy price and now you bought one yourself 🤣🤣🤣
I didn’t because (YOU SAID NOT TO) 🤦♂️ now I wish I did 😢
Now you have 500 dollars more for more important things in life. At the end of the day, WE should not forget that this thing is a toy 🤷🏻♂️😅
Analogue should recall this because it's a red flag
Designed to degrade over a shorter lifespan... the FPGA emulation FOMO is hype
Analogue's marketing can be hype, but there is nothing Hype about FPGA emulation, Ive been playing emulators since Raine and MAME day1 and the responsiveness, and sound reproduction accuracy alone make it a must play.
