Fun fact: the guy who first came up with the idea that H. pylori bacteria cause stomach ulcers and gastritis needed a way to prove it (it was previously believed to come from stress), so he drank his bacterial cultures and promptly caught gastritis, proving the bacterial cause. He won the Nobel prize.

This discovery was in the late '80s' and was made by two scientists - Australians Dr. Barry Marshall and Dr. Robin Warren who shared the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Their work made an enormous difference to the lives of tens of thousands of human beings, including mine.

@Sue Sue There was a TV documentary made some time ago about this matter. It said that Dr. Marshall was working alone, but took on Dr. Warren, who was quite younger than him, as his assistant. They worked so well together, that Dr. Marshall took on Dr. Warren as his partner.

It made me really sad when they were talking about how they were taken off guard by someone genuinely saying thank you. They’re out there saving lives and helping people out, so you’d think people would be a lot more grateful to them. I suppose shock may keep people from thinking about it, but they still deserve a lot more love for what they do.

I’ve been taken to the hospital twice and I’m not sure I genuinely thanked them. One time I was so ashamed and shocked due to a self inflicted injury (but I’m sure I said ‘I’m so sorry’ a lot), the other time I was confused, woke up in the ambulance, no idea how I got there and only remember part of the ride. It’s great when people say thank you, just wanted to put in perspective that it’s not always easy.

I am in America, and hate ambulance trips, but I do my very best to let them know I appreciate them when I end up calling one (for myself or someone else). They are heroes I am proud to meet, even if they end up faceless in my memory even hours later because of what comes after. I don't remember the people who picked up my mom after her first heart attack, but I haven't stopped feeling grateful to them in all the years since. Like true heroes, they made it okay for me to feel weak and useless by telling me I did a good job calling 911. My mom has since died, but I haven't forgotten the good those paramedics did for her and for me....

A needle doesn’t hurt too much(or much at all depending on how you perceive it), but if you’re convinced well enough, you could stab it through the back of your hand without feeling anything(that’s what’s in the video, it shows the whole thing, but there wasn’t any blood, it just made my skin crawl a bit) th-cam.com/video/Ff_PiYWrakM/w-d-xo.html

Of course. In reality the pain from a needle i reality is minor. But for doctors, that does not help . They have to help ease the pain no matter if it comes from the "head or body".
I thought i controlled pain good. Until i broke my thighbone right over the knee, and paramedic did not understand, (because i did not show any type of pain, i new something was wrong but i did not feel it)and they lifted me by putting the hands right under the broken part, causing the thigbone to make jello of the muscels. Only my pants, a strong pant, hold the bone from penetreat the fabric. In no second it become a fotball size lump at the break, and i screamd like a pig, without any control. I could not stop me,and i was so embarresed after the ordeal, thinking about that high scream. Mind you,i gave birth with no pain relief, not gas or anything. Without screaming or making noice.
So, pain from the brain, or body, does not matter, no one could have told me to stop screaming because it is my thinking that is wrong.
(My pain stop when they put me to operation. Ah,bliss. I got a long metall plate, from my hip and down to the knee).
I did not know foot was that amount of damaged. I did not se the svelling or the bone poking. So i did not know. But still, i did not manage the pain quite...or at all🥴
Hope it is possible to understand what i am trying to say. Sorry for my bad grammar. Still a lot to learn.

As I got older though I realized that excruciating pain is not something that’s normal in almost any situation. I love how these paramedics talk to people. They have a way of making people feel calm. Every time I’m in an ambulance, my anxiety skyrockets and I constantly apologize for troubling them and taking time out of their day. Even when I had a herniated disc and was in so much pain that I was nearly passing out, I kept saying I was sorry for being any trouble. Luckily the paramedic who rode in the back with me was understanding and polite.

I also had a herniated disc in my neck spine and passed out at home from the pain, woke up a bit later and called the ambulance, because my left arm was also paralyzed and i was thinking i may have a heart attack. I don't know what's it with German paramedics but they are unfriendly and rude most of the time. They also ended up not taking me in, they just said "well if we take you in you have to wait a long time" i did not go, went to my GP the next day, got an emergency MRI and had surgery 3 days later where they replaced the disc in my neck with an implant. I'm actually really glad they did not take me to that hospital because it has a really bad rep and i went to one that has a very good neurosurgery unit. After that i'm actually really afraid to call an ambulance tbh, just so pissy and unfriendly.

I’ve never had a bad experience with US Paramedics or Ambulances and I have a chronic disease. Every Fireman, Paramedic and Ambulance has been extremely kind to myself and my family. The only very disturbing problem, has been the thousands and thousands of bills I have received for no insurance that I pay $900 a month, yet no ambulance or Paramedic coverage, even when I had a separate Cardiac emergency that required surgery!

Waking up from a seizure is really frightening. I've injured myself really badly during epileptic seizures but honestly the worst part is how utterly disoriented you are when you finally come to. I have to be told multiple times that I've had a seizure because I keep forgetting it after a minute and have to be told again.

Afraid of needles. I came to in the ambulance just as a paramedic said, "Twenty gague should do it." It was just one little poke, but still, not fun when you just want people to leave you alone and let you sleep. That's why I had the sentence do not call 911 engraved on my medical alert bracelet.

    • @raaaaaaarr
      @raaaaaaarr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Totally.. I broke something in my hip, cracked my nose and punched in my ribs in one seizure. When I came to nobody was around and I held my head in shock for an hour.. Never went to the hosp because I was in a weird headspace of disbelief for weeks to months. Had hit my head on the oven corner10x times so by the time the confusion faded, medical help was a long time ago needed and too late.
This comment made me feel better because one year after the seizure I was still limping and all doctors would do is say, you didn't have a seizure, why would you bring it up so late. Freaking idiots.

Anti anxiety meds were given to me because pain killers also don’t work well and the pain was all consuming. It really is awful. We do. It's called nitrous oxide also used in conjunction with 'air' or oxygen and used as an anesthetic in surgery or dental offices. It's also available at just about any smoke shop, minus the air or oxygen. Be careful. I was armed with all the info possible and still gave myself nerve damage. Do not recommend that part! And since it's just nitrous oxide outside of a medical setting, you can suffocate if you don't breathe! Yay!

As an American I realize how much our medical system truly sucks...the bill for the ambulance ride can be up to a $1,000USD, they don't arrange for a GP or anyone else. They pretty much take you to the ER & turn you over to them. The ER is a whole nightmare of it's own. No one listens to the patient or the family. ER Dr.'s cannot admit you to inpatient, therefore typical ER visits are 8+ hours long. I once left, because it was causing more pain sitting in the waiting room waiting too be seen than the pain I came in for! After 3 hours & no sign of getting seen, I just told them nevermind. There's typically 1, maybe 2 ER Dr.s working at the same time. They tend too be clueless (NOT always! Sometimes you get lucky & get an excellent Dr. Unfortunately this is not often).

You need to move to another city or something. All of America is not like what you describe. A month ago I was into the ER three times in a week and ended up having surgery to remove my gall bladder. I’ve been there with my Dad a couple times in the past year too. They’ve given very good care. They listen, and admitted my Dad when it was needed. The wait was longer when I was there mid day. But early in the morning there was nobody in the waiting room.

Awww... these people are heroes every single day. Like so many, they are not properly appreciated. When I have been in an ambulance here in USA, I have made sure that if I could speak, I said "thank you"! Even when I was too unwell to speak, my heart still was full of appreciation for what they did for me. I hope to never need another ambulance ride, but that isn't because of the workers, it's because I don't want to need it! They don't wear capes or spandex costumes, but they clearly are heroes. Like cops, fire people, military, and emergency room staff, they save lives as a matter of course and never stop to think about being heroes, they just are. Oh, that is a very incomplete list! Still, none of my heroes are made much of in comics or movies. I am glad this show is on yt so even though I am in a different country, I can show my support by watching. Bless you!

To give him the benefit of the doubt, some people react to stress by trying to smile through it, especially when with someone else. For the smilers, if they smile while making eye contact with someone in pain, they hope to alleviate the fear and upset, by offering a friendly face. Or, he might simply smile as an impulse during the stress, like someone who jokes around after a car crash, or someone who deals with a death by laughing. We all deal with stress in different ways, so certainly we hope his partner hadn't slipped him a corrosive substance.

Heya, some of our ambulances do have automatic drive! It just depends on the brand (our Ford ambulances are all manual but the Mercedes ones are automatic), and then the brand you get often depends on what part country you’re in and the ambulance trust (normally up north / midlands theyre Fords but I think the south are starting to move towards the fords too bc they’re cheaper) ☺️💚
