Those tires had too much air. I'm not a pro, but I recommend you use between 32/29 front and 30/28 rear for spirit rides, at least if you're going to ride fast or twisty roads. The less air more contact patch, the more contact patch, tires warm up nicely because they have more friction so it means more grip. I use 30 front/29 rear for twisty roads.
Since you commuted so far to get to the ride, I recommend figuring out what your hot tire pressures are and bringing a small air gauge so that you can ride out on high pressures and then have fun on the low pressure. You could also get a small inflator to pump ‘‘em back up before hitting the highway. #27 Out
