- The duel from Rómeó és Júlia with English subtitles
Note: I don't speak Hungarian. I tried my best to subtitle the show using online translators, help from Hungarian friends, and lyrics from the other language productions of Romeo et Juliette. I'm more than happy to hear helpful comments about how I could make my subtitles more accurate, but please don't just bash them! Thanks!

The subtitles weren't really in order, he bowed to the harlequin part (which wasn't translated i guess), but yeah Bereczki was killing it with his prankster wibe :D

You JUST realized? Since I read Romeo and Juliet in freshman year of high school I’ve loved Mercutio and had the guiltiest of crushes on Tybalt.

Honestly with Zoltan they had every reason. OMG... he’s not even the one I was crushing on when I ran into this one, but where was this when I was in high school?
Hungarian choreography is the best, the dancers are very good and Zoltan is very good dancer, but Austrian musical setting is excellent, especially in this moment, when Tybalt is killing Merkutio.
Because we are Hungarians and we like to be as perfect as possible. We work hard.
Mercutio: *gently cups Tybalt's face*

Honestly hungarian songs ruined me for all others. I used to think english songs had emotions in them, WHAT A FOOL I WAS. I now listen to english musical songs and think meh, while this, this is filled with *raw* emotion that just doesn't compare, nothing else makes me feel anymore, these syllables and the way they rasp their throats on the way out, compare that to Idina Menzel singing Defying Gravity and that song just seems like she is prancing in a field of fucking daisies, Romeo and Julia dying in other versions is just them laying their heads on soft pillows while in this production they feel and they DIE and they make you CRY and ughh i hate it and i love it
This Tybalt is almost diabolic. Perfection in action.
I still think that Bereczki is the best Mercutio, coming back to this again and again... Such an underrated and underappreciated version!

@@catalina6024 Tybalt definitely needs affection, which is why I'm glad people like you seem to like him. For me, I like Mercutio because of his cleverness. I like that he always has a comeback. And he seems to hold his enjoyment if life above his responsibilities, which is a sentiment I can relate to.

Is it just me or is the Hungarian version the only version that actually took "I was hurt under your arm" literally XD.
Absolutely!! I love the original French rendition, but I feel they not only put the stabbing in the proper place in the song, but also emphasized the “hurt under your arm” right to the point.
this is the first time i've seen mercutio be as flamboyant as the original play.
It's 2020 and I still have the biggest crush on Bereczki Zoltan l m a o

So in love with this totally different story of Tybalt!!! It reveals his sadness, drama, his wasted life.... He is murdered, all of that young kids murdered by cruel world.....

Thank you so much for the subtitles! And Hungarians did great, when they decided not to simply copy the French one, but make it different, that's why it is so interesting to watch it. The characters are wonderful, and I love the new Tybalt - fantastic interpretation!

This is the only version of Romeo and Juliet where I have liked Tybalt better than Mercutio. Sure, Mercutio is really good in this too yet Tybalt is just amazing.
I don’t think they top each other. They’re both so amazing and I love the portrayal of both Mercutio and TYbalt. Also, loving that I’m commenting on another comment that is 10 years old.

And back to Romeo and Juliet. It's best Tibald I've ever seen. French version of musical is classic and beloved. But this version is amazing
They put smth new in musical and so it's interesting to watch. Other versions are more like copies. It's not bad, but when you watched all of them it's great to see smth new

My favourite two versions of the show are the original 2001 French cast and the 2005 Austrian cast.....but this production is still pretty damn amazing!!!!

It matches the nature and the rythm of Hungarian this way.
This rendition just reaffirms my decision, whether the actual play or if this is done in English, I’d prefer to play Mercutio instead of Romeo

at 1:53 it would be better to say "stop" instead of "stand" :) but i liked it really much, it's a pretty good translation and it makes me feel so touched :) thanks a lot

I think the camera doesn't show it very well what actually happens on stage, the cut there is rather poor. Also it happens rapidly, but Tybalt rushes there, stabs Mercutio while Romeo stands between them and a split-second later Tybalt turns his back to them, as Romeo pushes him away. I think it would have been better to show it from a different angle or not to put a cut there or change cameras. The only thing I can think of is that maybe if they would have shown in from a different angle, you could see how the actor of Mercutio is putting the fake knife into his own chest.

Definitely in the top 25% of European languages (east and west Europe).
Double- G well,well,well... Very unusual: it have common structure with Russian. But what I like in Hungarian version is tempo. But I think that for this song it’s fast, too fast. I think that we should see the duel, especially the moment when Tybalt hurts Mercutio, in slower tempo.
As a polyglot in training I ADORE Hungarian. It is extremely difficult but so strong. I love how powerful each word sounds. This song is amazing.

I don't think that's the case. Instead, he defended himself out of impulse since Tybalt pulled him closer to do something. Otherwise, it would have been out of character as Romeo sings about peace and love.

In this scene Romeo wants to stop both of them (Tybalt and Mercutio) so i think that he just wanted to stop their fight with a friendly sign. But Tybalt didnt accept so he used it to attack Romeo

Hát ez az angol fordítás csak elég gyengén követi a magyar szöveget. Csak itt-ott. Vagy magyarul nem tudott elég jól a fordító, vagy angolul. Az "Óvd azt, aki él, közel a cél, a győzelem vár" sor például úgy lett lefordítva, hogy "Védd a barátaidat, de ne gyilkold meg a szomszédaidat". Pfff. És ez csak egy a sok ostobaság közül.
