Railing and guardrail height all must be built per code in the US. I haven’t heard anything about lowering the required heights. Stair handrails @ 34”-38” above nose of tread. Guardrails @ 42”

Sorrowful story this is, all to save a hat that could be replaced or retrieved later on. I know that feeling, my hat blew off on a sail and as significant as it was to me for being from my first trip to Hawaii with my love and best friend in the world… watched as it grew smaller and smaller sinking into the ocean. Nothing is worth loosing a life over. It less matters that this was her twin, it was her sister and any sibling would make us feel the same horror this girl experienced. My heart goes out to her and her family for their loss. This never should happen to anyone ever. Building a wall won’t stop it either, so blaming the building or the escalator or the wind or bad timing changes nothing. Bad things just happen sometimes and for whatever reason, this was her time despite how it happened.

I once saved the life of an old woman, it happend in 2007 in some mall in NY, she fell hit herself but i succeeded to catch her from falling the whole plight. There's nothing wrong with the escalator, the same thing could've happened on a normal stair way. Just don't play around, you can always come back down to retrieve the hat, how many people rode on that escalator without incident since it was put up?

Heartbreaking but I'm unsure of what the woman was talking about building walls higher. The handrails look to be standard height for escalators. It's about the same height of the handrails throughout the building. You can't prevent every accident. Making the handrails too high and people couldn't reach them. Obviously the woman should have let the hat fall and then just go back down to retrieve it.

has nothing to do with the railing height, it you’ve ever even been inside the station you’d know that the railings are more than high enough. her death was the result of stupidity. she should be held accountable, stop blaming it on faulty architecture
Railing and guardrail height all must be built per code in the US. I haven’t heard anything about lowering the required heights. Stair handrails @ 34”-38” above nose of tread. Guardrails @ 42”

Sorrowful story this is, all to save a hat that could be replaced or retrieved later on. I know that feeling, my hat blew off on a sail and as significant as it was to me for being from my first trip to Hawaii with my love and best friend in the world… watched as it grew smaller and smaller sinking into the ocean. Nothing is worth loosing a life over. It less matters that this was her twin, it was her sister and any sibling would make us feel the same horror this girl experienced. My heart goes out to her and her family for their loss. This never should happen to anyone ever. Building a wall won’t stop it either, so blaming the building or the escalator or the wind or bad timing changes nothing. Bad things just happen sometimes and for whatever reason, this was her time despite how it happened.
That thing is hideous.

I once saved the life of an old woman, it happend in 2007 in some mall in NY, she fell hit herself but i succeeded to catch her from falling the whole plight. I stayed with her until first aid arrived. She had blood on her and i had on my shirt. I wish i could find her... To see how is she, if she is alive. I didnt think to leave a number or something, i regretted it for many years.

There's nothing wrong with the escalator, the same thing could've happened on a normal stair way. Just don't play around, you can always come back down to retrieve the hat, how many people rode on that escalator without incident since it was put up?

They actually need cross walks and crossing guards like we did in grade school because they constantly have their eye's on their cell phones and never think about looking both ways for oncoming traffic! Heartbreaking but I'm unsure of what the woman was talking about building walls higher. The handrails look to be standard height for escalators. It's about the same height of the handrails throughout the building. You can't prevent every accident. Making the handrails too high and people couldn't reach them. Obviously the woman should have let the hat fall and then just go back down to retrieve it.
The lady should have let the hat just fall. Hats can be replaced family members can't.
