sure, there are some "more epic" episodes and some "bigger" fights later in the show, but to me, THIS is THE episode.
i still get chills when "you say run" kicks it.
i mean there are few, but i wouldnt go too far saying there are alot. I could name one at least equally good as this per season from now on but definitely story & animation wise this IS in top of the series

Not only Endeavor cut off Todoroki from having friends, those kids shown playing outside are his siblings. He isolated him completely from his own family :(

Yeah because basically Endeavor wanted to create a child with a very powerful quirk and then aggressively train that child from square one to be stronger than All Might. The older siblings, I believe, he views as kind of failed experiments. That’s why he said they live in a different world. In his eyes, they’re “doomed” to be normal kids. This series is incredible and portrays a lot of good and terrible things. I can’t wait for you to finish through the most recent season.

Title of the episode is important, for obvious reasons, but more-so because Todoroki isn't the only one that gets his "origin" episode.
It's not about where they came from, it's about them accepting themselves and beginning their true journey to being a top hero, not just their own imagination of what that should be.
Deku had his, Todoroki's is here and Bakugo might get his one day; as well as a whole host of the cast, because every single 'side' character is a main character in their own right.
Yeah and their "start line". 😉
Very well put. So many anime just make the character so overpowered and don't even bother with backstories or their growth to level up

This is one of the few episodes in the series I had to go back to watch in English. It is the best dubbed episode of the entire show in my opinion. “It’s your quirk, not his” just hits so hard.

Yeah such a good point you make at the end. What makes this show special to me is how it takes the characters on fun creative paths instead of going the cliché route. It makes things feel more real kind of. Like there are many people like Endeavor in real life who maybe are good at their jobs or very successful but completely horrible people in their personal life.
Endeavor screamming Shoto is something that happens from time to time. And is kind of a meme as well.
I remember that when this episode came out someone made a 1 hour version of Endeavor screming Shoto and there was someone else who made it into a song.

This is one of the masterpiece fights of MHA. This is most people's favorite fight in season 2. And this is a QUARTER-FINAL MATCH. Sparing us a Bakugo vs Deku rematch because Todoroki and Deku are the ACTUAL rivals here. This is another fight with a LOT more happening than it appears. And that is saying something considering how much people notice as is.
This is the ultimate battle of willpower vs determination. High class determined pacts are tough to get through. But they falter to superior willpower. And Deku has bar NONE the absolute MOST WILLPOWER of any protagonist I have EVER seen in anime. Not the will to survive...the will to save. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING matters more to Deku than to save someone he sees in trouble. And he will break himself in EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY IMAGINABLE to accomplish that. Breaking through YEARS of trauma in front of MILLIONS in mere MINUTES under the HIGHEST physical stress I have seen someone endure. And just think. Had Deku went out the gate with a full arm of OFA, he would have one shot Todoroki. Just like that. One finger blasts him back that hard for THAT long.
This fight asks a LOT of questions of the human body. Can you break your finger more than once? Yes you can! Can you clench your fist with a handful of broken fingers? Yes you can! Can you PUNCH someone with a fist full of broken fingers? Yes you can! Scale that up a dozen steps in power and in pain and you got what Deku did. And OHHHHH BOY was this a showing of Deku's pain tolerance. SO MUCH ADRENALINE. Deku as a reminder, when he blasts OFA, he knocks ALL the skin off his finger and bone fragments come busted out. Hence all the blood. And by the time he starts double breaking, his fingers stop working the way they normally would. You see Deku charging Todoroki while he starts to flashback, and you see his fingers swaying back and forth. Like fingers? Of course not...they look like liquid sacks. Because there was SO little bone left in his fingers at that point. There is blood and finger bits ALL over the ring. (Also the bandaged fingers were already healed. So those were not double breaks on his full arm blast.) It is just a physical DISASTER. To cope with this level of pain to try and HELP someone in emotional need. That he is FIGHTING.
On the other side we have Shoto's sub-absolute zero ice blasts giving himself INTENSE frostbite that was practically devouring him by the end. Just because Deku has next to no body remaining doesn't make that any less painful. And immediately frying his shirt off afterward to counter that is ALSO incredibly painful. His tears were EVAPORATING. His fire ate up all that ice almost instantly. His fire must be well above oven heats to make all that ice vanish like that.
So then there is Endeavor and his AGGREGIOUS parenting. Training his kid so intensely he vomits from the pain at FIVE YEARS OLD. Scaring his wife so much she actually loses it and remains emotionally unstable. (He actually was justified to put her in an institute. As in mental institute.) This does not justify him in the SLIGHTEST, but the physical abuse towards his wife was a one time thing. He was FAR more verbally and emotionally abusive. And a LOT of neglect on top of that. At the same time...the training DID get instinctively written in him since he has the most quirk control over ALL his classmates. Even if he has next to no emotional understanding of himself or his son. And his son likewise has next to no emotional understanding of others from the trauma. And it took Deku LITERALLY punching him and saying that is YOUR quirk. Using it even the way that Endeavor wanted it to be used does not make Shoto WEAK. He makes his OWN future. And THAT spurred the fire reaction. He STILL admires heroes and wants to be one. To be among the best HE can be. He doesn't even hear or react to Endeavor in that moment of relief as he goes all out. PERFECTION. ESPECIALLY when Deku smiles when he knows he got through to him.
And there is one last thing to mention. WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT FINAL BLOW. WHO WOULD HAVE WON. The OCEAN of ice INSTANTLY frying at once to make way for a fire shockwave vs Deku using 3 LIMBS of OFA. Both legs and his remaining palm of his unbroken arm. Deku would have killed Todoroki. SHOTO would not have been able to hold up. Because Deku had no problem FACEPLANTING ON 3 CEMENT WALLS AND BOUNCING BACK A FULL FOOTBALL FIELD. HE LIVED. At that force, it was no different falling off the stadium. You know...the one that goes up 6 stories. Actually from the bouncing and such shattering those walls, I would say worse. That's...not feasible to a normal human body. Good news for Deku, with that much muscle tearing, he might be able to endure more in the future since muscles grow back stronger. It's a miracle neither of these kids are PUDDLES at this point.
Next episode...the tournament STILL continues. The other competitors have to prove their worth more than THAT.
The ending of their fight was voted the best anime scene of the year, and for good reason lol.
And here we finally are!!! One of.. 2? 3? of the most rewatched episodes of Boku no Hero. I love this episode so much as it does a lot for the series. He shows what kind of hero Deku is trying to be. Even during the duel, his focus was to help Todoroki overcome his struggles. Really shows why All Might (intentional or not) was "hero" in eyes of people, especially young ones. Explains us what actually happend in Todoroki home, domestic abuse and all... The fight itself and godly animation (im still getting those but i remember first time watching and jumping from chills when Todoroki was lifting his hand up in his final attack). And finally the episode itself. Whole scene was made so damn well, the cutouts, the quotes, flashbacks, Deku's determination and Todoroki's struggle - everything was made so god damn well making my cry every time i hear Todoroki's mom last time saying Natte iin da yo! (Its OK for you to become one!) (the way she says it also says it a lot that even as a child he was already having problem of being his son and probably hated his fire side as the quirk itself)

Yass the story of the Todoroki family is finally here. I honestly think it is one of the best things in the manga/anime, of all the chapters that there are every time one is dedicated to the story of Shoto and his family I am delighted because It really is a very well done story and yes, we all hated Endeavor at the time because there is no reason to have sympathy with a domestic abuser like...anyway I really enjoyed your reaction, this is just the beginning of the great things that season 2 and the rest that follow bring us.
I can't wait to see his reaction to all the character development that the Todoroki family gets. The full story of the Todoroki family is the thing that I'm looking forward to the most but it's still going to be while until we see it in the anime.
SPOILERS FOR THE 6TH SEASON
I do appreciate people who do try to understand the entire story, season 6 in mind because there's obviously more to it than it's portrait here. People still close mindedly hate Endeavor for what he did without taking into the account neither his change or the entire story. What he did is inexcusable, I know that, but I'd like for people to understand him a bit better.

Yeah some people say that rengokus dad is worse for some reason I forgot where I heard it from
Todoroki's childhood may lead him to be a villain with no doubt, but he still now stands and fights for his dream as a hero. Midoria and Allmight inspire him to face those he feared and that's why this episode is called "Todoroki's origin". I think maybe it means he will have a time to completely get through it and finally realize his left side is not only a curse but a bless.

I saw your message about having more issues with copyright and yeah, this episode in particular is one that gives reactors a lot of trouble. I'll never understand the assumption all these companies make that someone is going to a reaction video, where the episode is cut up and spoken over, _instead_ of watching the show. Obviously people are doing both and they're watching the show first. And I know that's the assumption they're making because there's specific episodes that they target for claims.
Without those rules people would abuse. Those anime take a lot of time and money to produce. Now that I hired editors it should run more smoothly

Oh yeah, true. Though for some major peak episodes it don't really matter because both voice actors deliver with such passion. It's hard to pick either in that instance.

You might not believe me but Endeavor is my favorite character in my hero. I hated him at first and what he did is unforgivable but his character development is insane. In my opinion Endeavor and Bakugou are the best written characters in my hero.

But, maaan.. it would've been nice if Midoriya actually went No Mercy Mode and actually man up to the words he said..
