This fight is still one of the best fights in the whole series. Never expected Deku to really go out & really push his limits but helped Todoroki in the end
I love Deku's selfless heart. To a certain extent he preferred to "save" Todoroki than to win the fight. This is why All Might chose him. I love Deku 🙌🏾💖
Easily the best episode of the show up to this point. From the second Todoroki lights up it's infinite chills the rest of the way. Love watching people seeing it for the first time, and you guys are great can't wait to see more.
Looking at it now, Edevour's arc in this anime was superb especially since with the origin, we were introduced to him at his possible worst and though it still has a lot more work, knowing the outcome of this story line is so fulfilling in a sense. What makes this better is that now there is great anticipation for you guys to go through that journey too!
It’s cool how they make Bakugo seem like a hot headed guy that just wants to blow stuff up, but he’s honestly very methodical and intelligent just like Deku
13:20 , while he does melt his arm. While he uses fire he is able to go even further and more powerful with his quirk because he doesn't need to suppress his fire power, which naturally keeps a homeostasis in his body. He had a limit of how far his ice could go without using his fire at the same time.
Deku went into this fight hoping to win, but his main goal was to try to get Todoroki to use his full power, he convinced him to and lost, he's so selfless, he could have won that if he hadn't tried to make him accept the fire side of himself but because he's got such a good heart he wanted to make him fight to his fullest. I love Deku a lot, and Todoroki is my favorite character, he's so complex and badass and I just love their friendship/rivalry.
this is one of my absolute fav episodes bc seeing todoroki win here made all the sense, it wasnt just a main character ass pull considering deku had to hurt himself to stop any of todoroki's attacks. i remember cheering at my screen when i first saw this fight hahah
This is one of the masterpiece fights of MHA. This is most people's favorite fight in season 2. And this is a QUARTER-FINAL MATCH. Sparing us a Bakugo vs Deku rematch because Todoroki and Deku are the ACTUAL rivals here. This is another fight with a LOT more happening than it appears. And that is saying something considering how much people notice as is. This is the ultimate battle of willpower vs determination. High class determined pacts are tough to get through. But they falter to superior willpower. And Deku has bar NONE the absolute MOST WILLPOWER of any protagonist I have EVER seen in anime. Not the will to survive...the will to save. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING matters more to Deku than to save someone he sees in trouble. And he will break himself in EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY IMAGINABLE to accomplish that. Breaking through YEARS of trauma in front of MILLIONS in mere MINUTES under the HIGHEST physical stress I have seen someone endure. And just think. Had Deku went out the gate with a full arm of OFA, he would have one shot Todoroki. Just like that. One finger blasts him back that hard for THAT long. This fight asks a LOT of questions of the human body. Can you break your finger more than once? Yes you can! Can you clench your fist with a handful of broken fingers? Yes you can! Can you PUNCH someone with a fist full of broken fingers? Yes you can! Scale that up a dozen steps in power and in pain and you got what Deku did. And OHHHHH BOY was this a showing of Deku's pain tolerance. SO MUCH ADRENALINE. Deku as a reminder, when he blasts OFA, he knocks ALL the skin off his finger and bone fragments come busted out. Hence all the blood. And by the time he starts double breaking, his fingers stop working the way they normally would. You see Deku charging Todoroki while he starts to flashback, and you see his fingers swaying back and forth. Like fingers? Of course not...they look like liquid sacks. Because there was SO little bone left in his fingers at that point. There is blood and finger bits ALL over the ring. (Also the bandaged fingers were already healed. So those were not double breaks on his full arm blast.) It is just a physical DISASTER. To cope with this level of pain to try and HELP someone in emotional need. That he is FIGHTING. On the other side we have Shoto's sub-absolute zero ice blasts giving himself INTENSE frostbite that was practically devouring him by the end. Just because Deku has next to no body remaining doesn't make that any less painful. And immediately frying his shirt off afterward to counter that is ALSO incredibly painful. His tears were EVAPORATING. His fire ate up all that ice almost instantly. His fire must be well above oven heats to make all that ice vanish like that. So then there is Endeavor and his AGGREGIOUS parenting. Training his kid so intensely he vomits from the pain at FIVE YEARS OLD. Scaring his wife so much she actually loses it and remains emotionally unstable. (He actually was justified to put her in an institute. As in mental institute.) This does not justify him in the SLIGHTEST, but the physical abuse towards his wife was a one time thing. He was FAR more verbally and emotionally abusive. And a LOT of neglect on top of that. At the same time...the training DID get instinctively written in him since he has the most quirk control over ALL his classmates. Even if he has next to no emotional understanding of himself or his son. And his son likewise has next to no emotional understanding of others from the trauma. And it took Deku LITERALLY punching him and saying that is YOUR quirk. Using it even the way that Endeavor wanted it to be used does not make Shoto WEAK. He makes his OWN future. And THAT spurred the fire reaction. He STILL admires heroes and wants to be one. To be among the best HE can be. He doesn't even hear or react to Endeavor in that moment of relief as he goes all out. PERFECTION. ESPECIALLY when Deku smiles when he knows he got through to him. And there is one last thing to mention. WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT FINAL BLOW. WHO WOULD HAVE WON. The OCEAN of ice INSTANTLY frying at once to make way for a fire shockwave vs Deku using 3 LIMBS of OFA. Both legs and his remaining palm of his unbroken arm. Deku would have killed Todoroki. SHOTO would not have been able to hold up. Because Deku had no problem FACEPLANTING ON 3 CEMENT WALLS AND BOUNCING BACK A FULL FOOTBALL FIELD. HE LIVED. At that force, it was no different falling off the stadium. You know...the one that goes up 6 stories. Actually from the bouncing and such shattering those walls, I would say worse. That's...not feasible to a normal human body. Good news for Deku, with that much muscle tearing, he might be able to endure more in the future since muscles grow back stronger. It's a miracle neither of these kids are PUDDLES at this point. Next episode...the tournament STILL continues. The other competitors have to prove their worth more than THAT.
Rewatching this episode with other people who are seeing it for the first time is making me feel so nostalgic, I remember seeing it for the first time years ago and having the same exact reaction!
So the thing I wanted but couldn't say yet in the previous episodes comments, is that I think Bakugo starts analyzing the fights more after his fight with Uraraka. He's always been smart but now he's really paying attention.
Speaking from experience, he was finally confronted by people undeniably on his level. He had no choice but to stop acting on instinct, and refer back to the habits that made him so impressive in the first place. I've really loved seeing his growth
To be honest even though I really love Deku and he is my second favorite character but I was rooting for Todoroki to win ( you know cause he's my favourite character ) 😂😂❤🤍 but what really surprised me is Deku's determination and he's good intentions to save Todoroki , he absolutely did his best and he absolutely deserves to be the number one hero 💚💚
Now, this is one of the things I was excited about! I couldn't wait for you to see it. The graphics in this show and the fight scenes are just insane and continue to get better! Deku and Todoroki are 2 of my absolute favorites, with even more great moments ahead
Love the reaction! One of my favourite episodes by far. Love how a) the show doesn’t give Deku the win just because he’s the protag and b) Deku could’ve used his analysis about Todoroki to try and beat him but instead he used it to save him. Love it. The one thing I’ll say, is that I wouldn’t call the Ochako vs Bakugou fight one sided. A one sided fight would be like, the Sero vs Todoroki fight earlier. Bakugou won that fight due to instincts, reflexes, and raw power but Ochako had a strategy that against anyone less of a fighter, would’ve probably won. It wasn’t an even fight but as Deku pointed out, Ochako tricked Bakugou twice in that fight. She just wasn’t able to beat his reflexes and training, plus her own physical strength wasn’t up to it. There’s a reason Bakugou respected Ochako after the fight. I don’t think he’d underestimate her again.
the fights in mha is so good, i mean not all of them, but there are some that stood out and the animation is just *chefs kiss* can't wait for y'all to react to the movies too
MHA isn't one of my favorite anime, but the second season is among the best. For me, this ep was the definitive moment in the show. Its so shounen but did everything right

That “it’s disrespectful to give it only half your effort when your opponents are giving it their all” is so Japanese. That’s why an elite baseball team famously beat a weak team 82-0. It also took 3 hours and they kept stealing bases. Because they didn’t slack even if their opponents were weak. Slacking shows disrespect for your opponent. Kids also don’t get free points, like free kicks against adult players who let them score goals. To patronize someone is to show you don’t respect their abilities, even kids. 😅

Even though Deku lost this fight, he still ended up saving someone. Like a real hero would. Shoto was able to take that first step because of him.
