that outro riff has no right to be so good. 2 minutes of that riff and it never gets boring. i thought only gojira and opeth could do that? well done. this shit slaps. ive got it on repeat.
I confess that I shared these two videos on Opeth's Facebook fan group and it has caused as much admiration as possible. Great job my friend! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Imagine a world where this was a song released by Opeth for their upcoming album... can you please make a kickstarter to fund an entire album of this amazing stuff?
I started learning Opeth songs 2 weeks ago, and as I started getting the hang of their songwriting style I wanted to check out what others have done. Man I gotta see you killed it, this sounds like it's an unreleased song from Blackwater Park, major props and respect!
This is SO My Arms Your Hearse! But fucking great job man. You'll need a do-over for Blackwater Park though, so I guess you have to do one more hehe 😁 I would say for Blackwater Park that you need: More sound design (Steven Wilson added that), more arpegiated clean seconds, more jazzy chords in general (11ths, 9s, etc), less distorted riffs with minor thirds, more single note riffs, more mellow sounding clean solos, more 12 string guitars, more Steven Wilson backing vocals, and sections that contrast more so that the different parts of the songs almost feel like "acts" if you know what I mean.
Yes would love to know this and how you did drum track too as I don't have a drummer. I know you made a video about this and a more in depth video for musicians that want to get more deeply into the style would be great!
Hey bro! Please make a video on the DAW-post production part of this epic sound like BWP... showing how you set your audio Raw tracks making it sound so awesome... thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion - I'd be keen to do a DAW / mix summary after I get a few more videos up. Maybe every couple of videos I could do a how-to-mix for recent vids.
Really really good dude !! I'm currently recording a cover (except drums and keyboards) of the song "Ghost of Perdition", would you like to collaborate and do the growls vocals on this one? Cheers from France!
Thanks for checking back in! I can't help but feel like LW&T is missing the brooding feel and atmosphere of the older stuff and it hasn't quite reeled me in. I used LW&T as an excuse to dust of Still Life and give it a few more spins. Is that feeling what brought you here?
@ That isn’t what brought me back here, no. I actually find that LW&T did have an eerie atmosphere on it, not quite like the old stuff, but definitely good; Paragraph 1, 4 and 5 are the ones I’d say have the best atmosphere. That all said, I did wanna hear this track again after all this time, and having listened to your lyrics more carefully this time, I definitely appreciate how the story you told was both poetic and accurate to t he evolution of the band (the chorus “with nowhere higher, I descend” especially made me think about how Mikael said that he’d done all he could with their post-Candlelight style). On an unrelated note, I also heard the Glenn Fricker had a band named “Blackwood” on his show at some point, and I was wondering if that had anything to do with you. By the way, I also checked out Vyrion, and I like what I’m hearing. I hope to hear more from you.
Two criticisms / feedback: 1) You went a bit too normal with the song structure in my opinion. Ditch the vague verse-chorus structure and add more riff-to-riff transitions and it should sound even more Opeth-y. 2) More key changes and chromaticism may be good. A chromatic transition followed by a sudden change to phrygian dominant and key changes are something that they do a lot in Still Life and Blackwater Park. Good stuff though. Maybe you could explain how to write riffs in Opeth's style in another video?
Any chance of getting this in a MP3 format or something like that? Excellent video/song! Heavy vocals sound almost abit too tinny, otherwise this shit rocks!
@@nonesoherpetological8974 this is wrong. he is not doing false chords growls. he's using his entire vocal tract, the undertones can be heard even in the earliest live recordings. the easiest way to find the right placement is going from a clean O and then letting go and switching to an A and it should create creak. then from there, you can start adding a little pressure, and make sure the undertones ( from your actual vocal chords) are not coming through. for the high notes, same applies here, but just widen your mouth and do a more Ä like sound and again, practice on not letting the ugly undertones coming through.
Lad, that's fucking amazing, sounds like somethin Opeth would be proud of, or used to be! Keep creating, if you need a drummer I'm avail! Check my channel...
I listen to this and I almost just hear an unreleased Opeth track. Please make an entire album of like this :D
I'm completely fine if opeth becomes a genre

Thanks heaps for sharing, glad you like it!
That’s how I discovered this, thanks John. Now I have to comb over all of dales videos. This was awesome.

You have captured the sound of Opeth while being funny.
This is the best Opeth style on youtube \m/ ?!
Thank you!
No, thank you!

This is the opeth sound I love, I want a CD ep of this lol
Good job! Been following Opeth from the start. Wish they would do this kinda stuff again.
Dude, what a nice thing you did here. 🤘

This gives me more of a YAMH vibe, but still supremely good. You knocked it out of the park!
MAYH lol
Or your arms your hearse ,you can have it..just have to take it off my hands/arms
Did he knock it out of the Blackwater park and into the mire though?
He knocked it out of the... _blackwater_ park, eh? Eh?

@@Deelman222 My arms your arse ;)

And here it is... Brilliant man!
amazing
Dude, that's awesome, really like what you did here
Could you go into detail on your process of writing the guitar and bass riffs? Amazing work btw, it actually sounds like Opeth!
Yes would love to know this and how you did drum track too as I don't have a drummer.

well, I'd like if opeth sounded more like this instead of what they've become.
great !
hello from Russia)
I like The drummer :D
What do you use to program those drums? Sounds legit
A question. The background of the solo is from the song Silver Bride by Amorphis?
Haha nah, I think it was from a free stock photography website.
Can you go in detail regarding the growls I really trying to figure out how to get that timbre into the growl...
I returned to this video after The Last Will And Testament released, and I have to ask, what do you think of it?

You just described how to make them! That is pretty much all it takes haha.
perfect (: 7:30 HAHAHA
How about Gojira next?

I would also like to listen to this in other places not on TH-cam. Would exchange money for this purpose.
Good idea, I'll start a Bandcamp for that purpose soon.
If you're in Montana, I'll be your drummer.
Sorry mate, Brisbane Australia
I was wondering is this a exhale or inhale growl? Or a grunt? And how to do it!!?
They're exhales. He's doing false chord growls, so look up tutorials on youtube on them.

Amazingly done. You are extremely talented. Please stop putting their name in the title and just make your own stuff.
Cheers! I do have some stuff, check out Vyrion (Black Metal) and Tower of Fire (Power Metal Parody)
But when will you support Tower of Fire

fukin on point! brilliant! love it,these riffs make me wet
