As for the freakout solo in "Porcelain heart" we just did maybe 20-30 takes. I lost the sense timing and rhythm (too complicated) since Axe is playing all over the place, and couldn't foresee when the part should end. Somehow Axe perfectly understood the "beat" and nailed it a number of times, but it wasn't crazy enough until we got what's on the album. Watching the music video for burden followed by this on Mtv2 when I was a teenager made me fall in love with this band. And now I realize if Opeth wasn't so groundbreaking, my favorite band, BTBAM, may never have even made it to the light. Also, they are fellow swedes and will forever have a place in my heart. I remember when this first came out when Martin Axenrot joined the band and everyone was so hypercritical and condemned his drum fills and rhythms. 16 years later, you guys are absolute clowns and should be embarassed. This is INCREDIBLE.
To me peak Opeth was Ghost Reveries, a masterpiece album, GOAT level, every moment of that album is incredible. Afterwards, there are moments of brilliance, like this piece, which is amazing, however, these moments seem to come far fewer between as you move forward through time.
@@alessa_cybergoth I did say there were flashes of brilliance afterwards... I also really liked Sorceress and Pale Communion. But those were mixed in with song that I really didn't enjoy. It's not like Ghost Reveries where you could play it forward to back, back to forward, and every song was is brilliance to me. For context, I didn't really enjoy a lot of their earlier stuff too, it's just Ghost Reveries is where Opeth and I gelled perfectly. I do that with other bands too like Lacuna Coil, I absolutely loved Karmacode, but most of their other stuff is meh and forgettable to me.
Just got some acoustic panels for my Klipsch reference speakers and begun listening to Opeth in a new light. Two words describes this moment. “Holy F*ck!”
To an ordinary band writing this would've been a once in a lifetime achievement, while Opeth writes those on a regular basis

The whole album is eerie, and Akerfeldt made the song mellotron heart wich adds to the eerie feeling :)
Mellotron is one of my favourite instruments
If you notice, the guitars sound absoultley brutal without down tuning or excessive distortion. Just loud and powerful.

I completely disagree. Watershed was a brilliant album. Even Heritage, Pale Communion and Sorceress had several good moments.
