Missed so many of these games apart from the early classics. I remember most fondly Ghostbusters, my posh friend had one in 1984, he had a wardrobe in his room and when he opened it there was a C64 on a shelf and a colour portable TV (we still had B+W!) anyway, he put Ghostbusters on and I was blown away with the speech! it would be 2 years later that I could afford my own C64. Thanks for that m8, great nostalgia :)
My man OSG, another lovely Top20 C64 video, instant like👍🏻 Great games on the list, batman, robocop and rambo II is my top favourites there. See you on the next video🤗 -Retrocengo
Class video mate, job well done. Had a fair few of these games back in the day but nice to see a few i never got around to playing :). Keep up the good work :)
Interesting list. Heard only negative things on Navy Seals, I played the Amiga one and its a good one. Ocean mostly killing it. Have a friend who told me he completed Robocop, he just played the corrupted stage and was fine after it. Not sure how much truth is in it.
yeah you can still complete the corrupted stage if you know what you are doing...and yeah it was ok after that...but now its fixed :-) Navy Seals is class mate....really hard and annoying ...but class
Glad you mentioned Hudson Hawk (funny that you proclaimed it as "second to none" whilst placing it in second!), I used to love it but can only remember that I used to get stuck everytime in the same spot and never figured out how to go further! I always remember Darkman as one of my favourite games, I have no real recollection of it now tbh, and maybe I liked it so much because I loved the movie! I certainly played it a lot though!
I've never played Platoon or suburban commando. Will give them a try out the week. I had Navy seals on cart as a kid and the difficulty put me off. As an adult, it's the full package. Music, graphics and level design are top notch.
Good list. I been buying original games back recently for nostalgia Rambo, Ghodtbusters etc. Goonies though on eBay for original copy is £45. Love the film and game.
Really surprised not to see the FPS version of Aliens here. That one terrified me as a kid. I had the budget version and had no idea there was a map in the full price version! I just stumbled around blindly 😁 Ghostbusters was probably my all time favourite C64 game, though. Good to see that in the list.
What are your thoughts on the C64 Predator game? I found it quite scary especially when the Predator was focusing in on you. I was surprised to not see it on the list - not that any of your choices were bad in my opinion.
Predator wasnt too bad tbh but a bit samey if you know what i mean ... Predator 2 however is on the video im doing now on the worst c64 movie based games lol
I beat Predator... accidentally more then once... it took years for me to figure out that the right sequence of events to win at the end on purpose was 'squish Predator under Log', 'Drop Weapon' (IMHO a MASSIVE Violation of Common Sense...), run off right side of screen. Honestly, I think that bit of stupidity at the end part probably cost Predator a chance at the top 20 spot... and any chance at a top spot for 'Game based on Movie'... why the halibut Players weren't allowed to exit the right screen to finish winning the game if they're still holding a Weapon i'll never understand.
Loved Ghost Busters, Rambo was so hard it was painful, and good lord the SID music was special. Just had a arcade made for me, with all the Neo Geo, Mega Drive, Snes etc. I'm 10 years old again. Track and Field is epic!
Had the Movie Pack myself. Finished Rambo & Platoon but not the others. Also finished the likes of Batman, Navy Seals, Untouchables, Ghostbusters, Licence to Kill and Robocop. Played Aliens but could never get past the initial flight tunnel section!! 2 notable absentees - Rambo 3 was a great game. I liked Total Recall also. Great music in both.
Great list. C64 movie games I also remember were Conan, Rocky Horror, Tron, and Star Wars all had fun games. Actually, conan was terrible.... but I was obsessed with that damn game.
The Great Escape is easily the best game on the list. Rambo is next for me, certainly has the best loading and theme music. Weirdly the best movie-like games on the C64 were not movies at all but inspired by movies. I refer to the Last Ninja games from System 3.
Great list, brought back some fantastic memories but was surprised by the choice of the Aliens game. I always preferred the Electric Dreams version of Aliens. A FPS years before Doom came out. Full of atmosphere and great to play as you could take on more than one character to complete the mission. Keep up the good work.
If you haven’t already, I’d recommend giving the Spectrum version of _The Great Escape_ a whirl. That version runs quicker than the Spectrum ports that the C64 and Amstrad CPC received, and the sound of the bell in the actual Spectrum version is really good considering that 16K and 48K Spectra had no sound chip the way the 128K Speccy did.
Gio Marron : The one we played the most was Electric dreams software’s 1st person shooter. Because we felt like we were in the movie , hahaha. Sweet memories of youth.
Roger Fredriksson There is a machine you can buy which has so many machines on it. I got it a few years ago. Has C64 and so many games. I’ll find the name and let you know
It's not movie based though...it was only named the same as the movie (up until just befor the release it was named something else and changed probably to cash in on the movie...although ocean deny that)
Commando is not based on the film of the same name. They just ironically came out around the same time. The game is based on the Vietnam war. The film is based on a fictional conflict.
1) Ghostbusters 2) Asterix and the Magic Cauldron (Probably not based on any Asterix films, but still loved it) 3) Commando (not sure if it is based on the film or not) 4) The Flintstones (This is more based on the anime, but there are films on the theme) 5) Rambo: First Blood Part II 6) The Untouchables 7) Licence to Kill 8) Gremlins (by Atarisoft) 9) Back to the future 10) Red heat (yes I liked it) 11) Big Trouble in Little China
Loved Navy Seals but boy it really needed to be on cartridge. It was hard so you can imagine losing your lives pretty quickly while you learnt the game, then having to wait for it to load to start again. Would not have loved this game as much if it wasn’t on cartridge.
It actually was released on cartridge. It was released on cartridge for the ill-fated C64 Games System console. You can actually play those carts on the C64 too. They were just hard to find due to that console failing. www.mayhem64.co.uk/cart/navy_seals.jpg If you do find one though, be willing to pay a lot of money for them, due to their rarity.
Brilliant list. Batman the Movie was just an outstanding C64 game and I'm suprised it never gets a mention. Ghostbusters is just a classic and I have many fond memories in playing it with my older brother in the 80's. Emualtion is great but the experience isn't the same without the smell of your burning plastic power box wondering if your C64 would blow up any minute.
Robocop was my first big box game purchase too, for the c64. I always wondered how you were supposed to beat that time limit - l accidently found that short cut one time and the next level was all glitches - I thought it was cause I never beat the level properly or my copy was glitched! Never new until recently that the game was unfinished!
Whenever I see any of the micro ports of Robocop I find myself wishing the arcade game had gotten a good hone conversion, made by Data East instead of Ocean. You probably couldn't have expected anything like that on the C64, but a Mega Drive conversion would have been awesome. Unfortunately the only straight arcade conversions the game ever got were kind of terrible. Such a shame, probably my favorite arcade game of all time together with Chase HQ.
I seem to remember liking the star wars trilogy games but admit the first two vector games played better on other formats where the screen update was a bit quicker. I'm really struggling to think of more. I used to love Blue Max but not sure if that was a movie tie in, it was by US Gold. Was there a High Noon game a bit like a crude Commando game but set in western times. Seem to remember there was a funeral bloke who would come and collect the dead bodies of the people you shot. Not sure it was a official High Noon game. I have to say 99.9% of my time on C64 was original games and arcade ports for which it provided excellent service in my youth. Sometimes I'd get distracted when playing C64 games because of the amazing sid tunes.
Another great video! Thanks! I didnt know Jaws came in 2 versions to C64? I only know about the other one, have never seen the one in this video? Is it called something else than Jaws? My personal favorite among this movie games is without a doubt Batman - The movie :-D
Used to play Rambo and starwars on the 48k many hours spent ... Also alien 3 on the mega drive was really good.. and better than the film also the spy who loved me on the st was brilliant
Don’t think you could’ve gone much above 20 titles as most ‘tie-in games’ were completely unrelated to the movie but for whatever reason could be thrown out with the name to increase sales. Some were hard as shit, but they (for obvious reasons) never come up on Top 10/20 lists. I remember a horror multipack where, in a werewolf game, I punched a mirror and, when I saw the blood, I turned into a werewolf and ate my own hands. You don’t get gaming like that any more
If you on about text adventure games no I haven't done a list on them...and I think the reason you haven't seen any others is that although I like playing them they don't make good viewing in video ...I know what you mean about not very many good movie tie ins...there were like 87 games that were taken into consideration for this list and I struggled to get 20 half decent ones out of them

Hulk Hogan's head there, definitely scared to fit his ego. Ghostbusters lower than The Goonies? I've played both and I would have to disagree. And, it's Gozer. Also, The Goonies has an annoying rendition of the theme. The walking sound effect in Labyrinth would get annoying fast. I do agree with your Top 3 though, they are 3 great games. I did prefer Platoon more than Hudson Hawk, but it was close.
Oh come on.. the bad guys in Die Hard weren't terrorists, remember? This was one of the major twists - everyone thought it was a terrorist assault but it turned out they were actually there to rob the vault!

@@oldstylegaming but it was fixed by hackers after Ocean released the game. Ocean never published a working version, so it is impossible to pick up a copy of the game as released and play it to the end, and therefore I think it shouldn't make the list _at all_. :)
Glad you included Rambo, that was my favourite C64 game the soundtrack was awesome.
yeah mate its a great game. The music is the star of the game though, it actually had its own Ocean loader too which was awesome too
Thanks for more great content OSG. One of my picks for this would have been Rocky Horror.
The tunnels in Platoon scared the crap out of me as a kid when those guys jumped up with the knives.
Loved Batman, Platoon and Ghostbusters - Great games (and music ) for the c64!👍
I loved Rambo, total brutal classic.
Navy Seals intro music is legendary! When I was a kid in 1995, I recently load this game only just for the music.
Missed so many of these games apart from the early classics. Great video. Ghostbusters was my favorite as a kid even tho I never could get past stay puft blocking the door
You position the man a click to the left and then push up as soon as the marshmallow man is touching the ground.
Great list! Robocop is one of my favorites. Learning how to play the music from it on my yamaha reface cs.
Great list, I'm glad you put Gremlins in, the text adventures were my favourite. I only ever finished one of them though, Mindscape.
Text adventures were always tough. I never managed to finish any of them
Awesome list, Die Hard looks impressive for a C64 game
My man OSG, another lovely Top20 C64 video, instant like👍🏻
Great games on the list, batman, robocop and rambo II is my top favourites there.
See you on the next video🤗

thanks for watching mate :-) there are some great games on this list that hold so many memories for me

I loved Great Escape, I never completed but played it for hours.

Bruce Lee would be my number one if you were to class it in the movie category. I also liked Airwolf which would have been in my list.
OMG you like Airwolf? you must love insanely hard games...i don't think i could get away with Bruce Lee and Airwolf in the movie category
Air Wolf was a shitty rip-off of a much better game: Fort Apocalypse
The only thing I liked about Air Wolf was the music
1) Ghostbusters
