- hey all, this is a cool el camino i picked up a few years ago that i planned on building but i have too many projects and could use the funds towards them. so the el camino hit the chopping block and one of the most asked questions i got was does the engine turn over? well lets find out
Not a chebby guy but that is one worth saving.
She can be beautiful especially if it’s numbers matching. Definitely worth it. Keep it as a tow rig and enjoy it especially if there’s family history with El Caminos.
Brings back "get er to run" vibes from the early 80s as a teen! 😀
Chris you never fail to make me smile, wish I were your neighbor !
Best neighbor ever!!!
Chris, in memory of your dad and Grandpa. And that's a 454 with a 4 speed.I think you need to keep it and drive it. 1970 El Camino they don't make them anymore 😊😊😊😊😊
Not enough room nor $
A 10k car as it sots
@@gerry-p9xYou're nuts
@@junkerup call BS Cris, aka Mr Hollywood
Great video 👍🏻
Just seen this exact issue on legit street cars. Same deal, oil filter balloons up at start up and dumps oil.
It did wind up being oil pressure relief valve.
Chris has got some ( Alot) of Classic Cars!
Made me nervous how aggressively you worked that hood open 😂 nice work tho Chris I’m trying to get my 67 elco going as well
😂😂😂 EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE someone trying to turn over a motor using the bolt to hold on the balancer to the crankshaft I'M SCREAMING "TAKE OUT THE PLUGS FIRST DAMN IT!!".😂😂😂😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
No need, it’s not hydraulic pressure it’s air. Just to see if crank moves there’s no need to pull plugs
@junkerup , Sorry buddy, I meant by just trying to turn the crank with the bolt. I can't believe how many people I've seen strip it out of the crankshaft! 😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
My brother was given an old Jeep Commander. It had the old Buick V6 225 engine. The timing chain was out of it and it was too rusty for the road. I took the valve covers off along with the front engine assembly. I don't think they ever changed the oil in that engine. I cleaned everything the best I could. Spun the engine over until we got some oil pressure. It started up and the oil light came on. It had pumped the oil filter full of crap and ballooned the oil filter like your El Camino is doing. Several oil filters later we were able to have some fun in the fields and woods with the Jeep until it just broke the frame from being rusted out.
Just pulled out a 67 396 four speed Chevelle about a month or so ago for a guy, it had been sitting in a barn for like 20 years. It was all solid tho he had it primed before he parked it plus he had two 396 blocks a 427 and a 327 block sitting with it and a new quarter panel for it that’s an actual gm one
That jack stand is doing it's best, but it's looking forward to retirement
The Birdman is back!!
Good thing you had that fender cover on!😁
Hey Chris thank you for the video damn you Chevy
That is actually a very cool car! 👍🏋️♀️
1964 El Camino 283 4 speed was my first car! $800.
71 Camino deal3r car bought 2973 for 2800 bucks. They stole the car in 1997
Oil pump pressure, relief valve stuck as you said if I would Watch the video lol
Currently bored in class bird but not anymore with birdsong playing 😎
They can't all be winners. Good job you have plenty Oil Dri/Sand in your yard.
Nice vid as always 👍 cheers from France mate
Good times 🎉 nice shop truck or parts runner
Dalton from pbg mentioned u in his last video, so i subed and put notifications on for your channel. i figured I'd cheak out your latest video i trust the man. My instincts were right im looking forwerd 2 watching all your videos 💪🏽.
My favorite youtube channel
I've seen them do that with spun mains. I wouldn't think that wimpy cam driven oil pump could pump that hard with the relief valve stuck.
In a world of $#|T television and TH-cam videos, this channel is an island of greatness.
In the vein of Roadkill and Roadkill Garage and Faster With *****.
I dont think I would have started it for fear of losing the motor 396 are hard to come by if it's matching numbers, and I am with you love my mopars but I am a car guy threw and threw all have something to offer .
Already know its an amazing day when Chris posts sorry im late
Epic video . Derek be special ha ha . caveman . The door handle thing was a laugh . This my fav video I gotta say. Roller coaster ride .
1st
Hell yes it'll run, its a Chevy!!
Runs & drives... wink wink 😉😉
guy from legitstreetcars had a filter that kept leaking oil. He got a couple to seal and they literally expanded and almost blew up. Tuned out to be the pump oil by pass was scratched up sticky
Yo, Chris, face it bro. Time is right to return to the Isaac Daytona Charger...
The oil pressure line is right above the oil filter, it is probably leaking out of there. The oil pressure relief spring is probably stuck too, but that is where I would check for your oil leak. Pull it back onto ground that doesn't have oil on it, jack it up, disable the coil and just crank it over while watching underneath to find the actual leak. If you haven't already sold it.
It’s no mistaken filter leak
Hey man headed out to Vegas and was hoping to be able to meet you.. and perhaps minty ..... Smurf lol
Just call it the parts chaser! Thats what we called the el caminos and rancheros back in the day.
Fix it up Chris please and it will be worth alot. I beg you to fix it and make it beautiful again
Channel Carter Auto Restyling and straighten out the crunched fender. Did it pump any oil up to the heads?
It could be the oil filter adapter gasket. I had a chevy 454 that developed a leak at the oil filter adapter gasket because it had an old paper gasket. The factory GM oil filter adapter gasket is steel. If you go to an auto parts store they will sell you a paper oil filter adapter gasket instead of the GM factory steel gasket. I believe you can still get a GM factory steel oil filter adapter gasket from a chevy dealer.
There is a oil port right about the oil filter on big blocks. Did you check that?
26:33 Been a member the day you added memberships!
Yup and I greatly appreciate it man. It really helps
@junkerup You're more than welcome! Always wanted to support you ever since I subscribed bout 4-5 years ago but didn't know how until the memberships!
There is a check valve with a spring in the oil pump that's stuck. It's the oil pump.
Funny that you can open the door and others have a hard time. Same with my slightly ratty 65 Catalina: Peope are telling me the door is locked. If you have enough strength in your fingers you can open it no problem.
Had a 80's jeep Comanche 4.0, ran fine but oil filter did the same. Would come loose no matter how tight. 🤷. Sold it
Its a 4 speed 396 big block elcamino it will definitely be restored.you just have to sell it to someone who has money.by the way my first car was a 66 elcamino with a 327 with a powerglide it did awesome burnouts.until the rear end exploded.then i traded it to a 68 coronet 500 with a 383 best car trade ever
It has the round SS gauges and the delux SS steering wheel
I love when someone says “ran when parked”. They all ran when they were parked for the last time they ran…😂
I am way lost on this video. Couple questions…where is car located…how much…is it still available? Please advise. Thanks.
Chris lives in Vegas… so that’s where the car is-
You tried, it needs a rebuild anyways, this little truck needs some cash, you should check the vin and the engine block to see if it numbers matching, make those Chevy boys pay, hehe.
Oil filter adapter aluminum thing that bolts to the block. My small block chevy did this to me, pissed me off.. oil everywhere. It blew out after backing out of my garage no reason other than its a chevy. It had a hairline crack in it. I swapt it out for a used one off another small block problem solved. Shit design G/M 👍
did it get any oil up to the push rods???
Did someone before leave the outta O-ring on it from the last one???🤷
Chris, how much are you asking? Ty.
Ok, HOw much for that fun bucket 4 speed? Reply back with a way to reach you too pls.😊
Pending sale at $7500
El caminos are based off of the station wagon. I’ve had a 68 and a 71
Points my man. Fuel spark. Coil. Fresh. Gas from pony tank. Carb fuel. Filter
Pressure relief in the pump is stuck.
My 8 year old daughter also had problems to open my 69 chevy door😂
👍👍
Isn't there a oil tap in the back of the block for a gauge if that's not plugged in the gush on top by the intake manifold them back
I want to see tall john n birdsong build a drag car from junk parts even the rings n gasket from junk parts n drag race each other in the 1/4 mile.
Great to see like minded people's like!!
"Has great oil pressure."
Oil pressure gauge sending line thingy is behind the distributor back there. If its a steel line it might have brokeded in the wreck!
It's actual oil pump pressure so it's a dang flood like that.
Not on a bbc, it's right above the filter on side of block.
Above the filter then, it would pour out like that if the senders broke off..
I could never afford bb, but it's worth taking a look see, some of them oil guage lines plastic, header heat could melt them off .
My first car was a 1970 Torino.
Hey, Chris. I'm still in search of a late 90s early 2000s Engine 5.9 Magnum engine block. That hopefully is not too worn out. I've got stock pistons. I'm on the West Coast. Called some Yards up here & either no luck or they want Too Much. Can you help? Or any ideas?
I have a 5.9 with 150,000 miles it blew a head gasket it's leaking out the front no water in oil to bad I live in WI I'd work something out with you
@kevinvansandt9117 Hi Kevin, You live in Wisconsin? I would have to look into how much shipping would cost & how much you want for engine. Is it a Magnum & what year is it?
@@kevinvansandt9117 I'm definitely interested in that 5.9 engine. You let me know if it's something you're willing to part with and how much and then if it works out, I'll send you my email address.
I've been trying to find out how much and if you sold it yet. Any answers?
Waiting on title, have pending sale at $7500
damn it would have been a nice proyect for the channel
Hey man how much for the ol elcamino
2:00 in 1985 the Elco got smashed and Chris shares with us that his mom also did. Could have been 84 I guess.
It's a fuckin joke people. Lighten up. Mine got smashed in 79
👍
✌
The front turn indicator lights are oval shaped on the Elcos.
They are round on Elcos and Rectangular on Chevelles.
Wondering why you just didn't try and push it with the transmission in gear
Just wondering if Derek abit special
How high is Derek? 😆
There is 2 bolts thst hold housing on for oil filter. The gasket must be ripped
Calling an El Camino a truck is like calling a crew cab pickup a sedan.
Will it start? Yes!
Will it run? For a while...
The oil leak is from a broken oil pressure sending unit.
I would hang onto the vehicle and take it to muscle cars at the strip and or auto cross it!
💪😎
I'll give ya $100 for the cragers, I seen the condition
I meant to say in the back by the intake manifold
Oil pressure Sending unit.
NOOOO WHERE DID YOUR HAIR GO!! D:
The body line is different between '70 and '71, a '70 is inch higher then 71,72,73.
I think the fuel injection bearings are STUCK!
Need that 11/32 wrench to tighten coil nuts.
So how much u want for a 2k el co ?
Pending sale at $8k
Feels like 2005
Why do GM cars have their brake reservoir tilted backward? Seems like that would make filling it difficult.
I wondered that myself. I think it's to help when bleeding the master cylinder when it's installed. Helps with air being pumped to the front or by gravity bleeding. Also, if you blow a front brake hose, the back brakes will still have a little( I guess).
I thought we're older than 1985 I was born 86 lol
Unless the internal components of the engine are knackered you only need air, fuel and a spark so why wouldn't it.
Glad it wasn't a square body hood.
It’s got a spun bearing and the bearing is blocking the oil off and blowing out the oil filter. It’s gotta go somewhere
Crank gets oil from multiple holes not 1
True but if the other sources can support the amount of oil the pump is applying is gonna back feed back to the weakest place and of course it’s the filter.
I don't care if it runs or numbers matching....is it still for sale???
Technically yes but I do have a decent offer I said I would take
try that on a hood of today's car, it would have folded in half
1985 ? thinking I might be your daddy 😅
The thought he me sweating for a moment until you spoke up.
I never in my 58 years see any car 🏃 🇺🇲
The 70 wagon and elcomino have the same front end the front cap wont fit on a car also the frame is the same as a wagon
