Episode 4 was clearly telling us that nobody messes with Aemond, not even his own brother. RIP Rhaenys

Love how every reactor doubts about every decission that Cole makes just because they hate him. The man was not made for politics but he knows about war, in fact, from all the main characters we have in this show, the one who know war the most is Cole since he fought many battles for Dorne before his journey to Kingslanding in the first season in an age of peace, like most of those knights and lords dont know what a war is including Allicent brother, who is a knight but havent fought a single war.
In fact, Allicent brother in those scenes works as the regular spectator POV, he questions every decission Cole makes, just to get proved wrong.
Very true, viewers are so blinded by hate that they challenge every single words coming from his mouth while he literally is the best warrior in all of westeros at this time.
He worked with Aemond to create this plan.
The brother was right on all accounts from a military perspective based on what he knew of the situation.
It was so great to see such strategy and tactics that are realistic being used to trap an enemy.
@@kroanosm617 Oh, ofc, Allicent brother questioned him from pure rationallity and it looked like Cole was playing and even enjoying not telling him the true nature of his actions, like he was taking revenge.
Alicent dropped a dragon figurine on the floor, one wing breaking off - Aegon's Sunfyre falling from the sky with one wing burning.
Aegon, right before deciding to go into battle, pushes a carafe of wine with a dragon on it off the table and it shatters into pieces - Rhaenys' Meleys falls to the ground, exploding.
The foreshadowing/symbolism is crazy in this episode!
2:04 Rhaenys shined in these two episodes, starting from this very moment. Her death was foreshadowed really well, putting an emphasis on how much she matters to Rhaenyra, how valuable her council is.
4:00 this council meeting felt so tense - you can see how Aegon is delulu, wanting senseless fighting. Aemond and Criston obviously have their own plan and Aegon's idiocy is just making it more difficult for them. The rest of the council is engaged in petty struggles as always.
7:19 they did a good job with these scenes. It very much is intended to feel haunted, like in a horror movie. Harrenhal is haunted, the place was built by Harren the Black, who was an alltogether evil man. He cut the Weirdwood trees that were growing in that place in order to make room for his fortress and that attracted the fury of the spirits that the Northeners worship. On top of that, Aegon the Conqueror burned the place down with his dragon, whose fire was so hot it melt the stones from which the fortress was built. That's why it looks so destroyed and nobody bothered trying to repair it. It's a reminder of sorts - don't fuck with the Targaryens.
36:31 Aemond's strategy, which he devised with Ser Crispy during the first or second episode this season, is really good. The reason neither him or Crispy consulted with Aegon is because they know he would try to do something or say something that would mess that plan up, simply because he has no experience and a huge, fragile ego.
36:55 this scene proves how Aemond still cares about his Aegon, deciding to talk with him in Valyrian and not humiliate him in front of the council. Naturally, he still humiliated him by pointing out his mistakes but it was in a language only the 2 of them could understand.
38:00 that moment, along with Alicent's "just do nothing" are part of the reason why Aegon got drunk and lashed out by joining the battle on Sunfyre, trying to prove he is just as "fierce".
43:19 and that's precisely where she fucked up as a mother, even more so with such an unstable child. She should have supported him, encouraged him to listen and pay attention instead of "just do nothing", while Aegon was doing cup sized shots of wine.
I don't think the High Valyrian scene proves that Aemond cares about Aegon at all. This was just him asserting his dominance and ego checking Aegon so that he wouldn't publicly denounce the plan. If anything, the scene where Aemond deliberately decides to set his brother on fire is much stronger evidence for Aemond willing to sacrifice his brother to further his own gain or even just as petty revenge for what happened last night. It also looks like he is ready to finish off Aegon with his blade in the final scene before he is stopped by Cole.
@@Kevfun07 You seem to forget how Aemond gets frustrated when Aegon showed up with his dragon, called him an idiot and told Vhagar to wait. Why would he do that? Obvious answer is he hoped Sunfyre and Meleys would tire each other out and then he can come in and surprise Rhaenys, defeat her, just like the original plan before Aegon decided to mess things up. Aemond could not have known Sunfyre was already badly hurt and he would deathspiral to the ground after one fire breathing attack. If anything, under normal conditions Aegon and Sunfyre could’ve flown away just like Rhaenys and Meleys.
And no, Aemond wasn’t getting ready to execute/finish off Aegon. Go back and pay attention to the way he was holding the sword, preparing to sheathe it, not kill someone like he’s some Assassin’s Creed npc.
@@Alexszander Sure, you could say he was sheathing his sword at the end. However, how does your whole other point have anything to do with the fact that Aemond directly aimed at his brother and roasted them? If he really cared for Aegon, why wouldn't he have just waited for a better opportunity to attack and not harm his brother? He also showed 0 emotion from seeing his Aegon and Sunfyre fall and further showed no reaction to seeing his likely dead brother at the end. Instead, he just looted his weapon like an NPC and walked off...
@@Kevfun07 Aemond aimed directly at the two dragons and their riders fighting midair. Can you honestly tell me with 100% certainty he didn’t think that ball of flame would’ve split them off, allowing him to attack Rhaenys and Aegon either retreat or help him?
Waiting wasn’t a good decision. Wait for what, Rhaenys to kill the king? It was a gamble and it payed off poorly.
Aemond in general doesn’t show much emotion, this was highlighted in episode 3 when he walked away straight faced from the brothel room, in every other scene. The only time he showed emotion was his slight smile after finishing his Valyrian speech and that was a smug smile like “Yeah, I owned you” towards his brother.
How far we've come since the family dinner party....and not in a good way. Alicent is right, there's no putting that genie in the bottle again. You think Aegon is just gonna be like "oh, it was a mixup and I'm not king anymore? Okay, sounds fine to me". And even if he was, everyone at court would tell him otherwise in order to maintain their own positions of power. Even an illegitimate king is still a king.
The eggs that were sent away in EP3 are the ones that end up as the dragons in game of thrones as someone steals them eggs and they are passed around the east continent until the delthraki gift them to Danny as a wedding gift

7:28 Matt Smith (the actor who plays Daemon) advocated for that scene to be added, him randomly beating that one guard because, in his words - that's what Daemon would do. It's refreshing to see such dedication to the role from an actor.

Honestly, I hate that Aegon isn't smart enough or eloquent enough to put Alicent and Otto in their places. They've both griped to him about what they did to put him on the throne. In both cases, Aegon should have just been like "You're the ones who usurped my father's wishes, you gave me a throne I never asked for, and now you're blaming me when I don't do what you want? All the blood being shed is on your hands, and that is how the history books will remember you for eternity. And you two will spend the rest of your lives wondering if it was really worth it, what you did."
51:00 Rhaenys went out like the badass she was. One of the best characters in this series.
51:42 Sunfyre tried to protect Aegon until the very end, even crash landed in such a way as not to crush him and from the looks of it, curled itself around Aegon.
52:36 you're right, Magy, she probably knew there's little chance she will return from this battle. Excellently put, she couldn't really run away without making the Blacks look weak, even if the odds were against her.
57:35 you understood that perfectly, Alyn and his brother are bastards, Corlys' bastards. We saw how they were introduced, now Rhaenys confirmed it. In episode 3, we had that tavern scene with the guy who boasts about being a Targaryen, namely Daemon and Viserys' brother.
58:40 the Greens are objectively in the wrong, since they usurped the throne. To be fair, Viserys is the one at fault for all this because he only told his "Song of Ice and Fire" secret to Rhaenyra only, instead of telling at least his wife.

Thank you for being the only reactor to understand why Rheneys didn’t just “fly away” even though the odds were bad.
The odds weren't actually that bad. Vhagar is bigger but Meleys is the fastest dragon around and Rhaenys a more experienced rider. More like slightly disfavoured. In the book they actually attacked Rhaenys together and all three went down in a clinch with only Vhagar making it out unhurt.
Mayles could absolutely have beaten Vhagar she just happened to lose

Yes, finally! A reactor who understands straight away why Rheanys couldn’t just fly away, even though she had multiple chances.
That last look Meleys gave to Rhaenys before they turned around to attack again was so heartbreaking, I guess both knew what was coming to them. I just felt so sad.
And no, she could not just fly away, her mission was to defend the castle of a close ally. A strategicly important asset of the war to come. What would their other allies think of Rhaenyra if she´d fled the battlefield and left them to be taken?

Aemond really messed up, they could have flown together and either raenys fights and dies or gozs away and they get castle for free. But he chose to get rid of aegon and because of that they lost a dragon rider and the king is gone that shows thz greens claim as weak and lost an asset of a dragon, he could have gotten rid of him at another opportunity. Also alicent, otto, the whole council are just power hungry dumbasses, you shouls support the king in his decisions not make them for him, his ideas were actually good from the start he needed them to polish and execute thzm
Aemond didn't mess anything up if you pay attention to what happened so far. Aemon was always bullying him, he had no interest in being king, he was pushed into that position by Alicent and Otto who thought Aemon would grow into the role. He never had any intention of doing that to begin with and you can see that in both his impulsive decision to take Harrenhal instead of Rook's Rest, like Aemond recommended and also in his unwillingness to learn Valyrian (huge advantage to talk with your family members without other council members knowing what you're talking about).
You're right about the council members being powerhungry but no, they totally should not support the king's decisions if the king is an imbecile, like Aemon - look at what happened in the first 2 episodes of this season, only idiotic decisions which barely got mitigated by Otto until he got thrown out. Some of Aegon's ideas were good but those were good in times of peace, not in times of war. The only good decision he had was giving more support to the blacksmiths because without weapons and armors you can't win the war. Everything else was idiotic - giving the sheep back to the people, killing all the rat catchers, going into battle to kill himself, wanting Harrenhal instead of Rook's Rest, constantly getting bored during council meetings (instead of shutting up and listening to everyone else so he can learn)

As brave as she was and also dedicated to protecting the castle, she knew the best decision in a 2 vs 1 would have been to retreat and inform everyone that the Greens are using such a tactic. Aemond played it perfectly, he let Aemon engage Rhaenys, both dragons got exhausted and hurt to various degrees, then he stepped in and got rid of Aegon who constantly fucked up the plans with his own impulsiveness and bad decisions, and also Rhaenys and her dragon.
@@NoName-kf5cu Aegon was right at exactly one point in his rule over the realm - give more resources to the blacksmiths. Every other decision was bad because, again, he did not want to be king, he did not grow up learning to be one and once he was made a king, he was more preoccupied with making his dumb friends who literally walk into each other Kingsguards, find names for himself and drink himself stupid, on top of bullying his brother and his small council. He failed in each aspect, with no redeeming grace, which is no fault of his own really, that's how Alicent raised him and that's how little attention Viserys paid to him. He is a victim of poor parenting. He decided to act like a spoiled kid, he has no idea how to be a king because he was never thought. Just because someone put a crown on his head, he didn't magically become imbued with knowledge and wisdom.
