Yup. Enter the gungeon is the BEST shooter game I've played. Binding of Isaac was fun and all, but, the patterns got repetitive over time, meanwhile, enter the gungeon, has many different ways to play, and interact. I agree, people should buy this game, it's amazing, awesome, everything, I love it.
Gungeon doesn't really keep the good guns away from you early on. From what I've seen, what guns you get are randomized. There is a chance you'll get a really great gun at the beginning or maybe a not so good one later in the game. I think it's for variety, as each time you play the game, the experience will be different and teaches the player to adapt.
+Pat Knack yup, you can get eithe a potato or a chargeable lazer beam, its absolutely awesome, you do have to be carefull about keys and chests(some of them come alive to kill you)

The Fancy Lettuce Mimics are pretty cruel. Just heed their bestiary entry, and shoot once to check for them. Also of note is I may have somehow put a key in one and it took it then spawned a different bullet because of the key.

Just to clarify something, only on the first stage of the gungeon are the levels kind of the same, but they get progressively harder as you move down the stages, so I don't think it's necessarily about bad level design, but rather insuring that it's less complicated in the beginning. Also, a ton more stuff has come out for it since this review went up, and it feels fresh every time I come back to it.
how can you say this game isnt beautiful... theres so much attention to detail, everything you see you can either break or interact with in some way, every thing has an animation, the enemies all have personality and unique designs (fucking gun totem poles) you can tell alot of love was put into this game. and i dont know what youre talking about with isaac players not liking the game, ive put like 300 hrs into isaac and love gungeon, even northernlion loves gungeon.

This Jake guy is completely undermining how good this game is. I have spent hours upon hours into this game because there is just so much shit you can do in this game. I don't recommend listening to what Jake has to say because he obviously played this game 4 times and said: "I'm gonna make a video about this saying how shit this is". When he said: "There’s not much to interact with", I was like wtf? There is a huge variety of what you can interact with. And I think what 'aichliss' said is a great example of what can just happen when just pressing E. Also, I don't understand how you say "the level design here isn't that great". How can you say that? There are so many varieties of well-created rooms and it is astoundingly met with a great environment with the little destructables (for example, books and barrels) that could very well save your life. The characters aren't "very similar". In fact, all 6 characters (including the 2 unlockables) provide a completely different way of play style. The Marine has an extra shield and the best starting gun out of the four default characters. He has a starter item which boosts his aim and his reload speed which makes him the perfect character to play if you are the guns blazing type of player. The Bullet (an unlockable) gives you probably the most useful starting weapon called the 'Blasphemy'. This weapon is a sword which can block the bullets it hits when swung. It also shoots a sword out of it when swung at full health. This creates a tactical type of gameplay. This is because you want to be careful when fighting harder enemies because you want to keep your self at full health by hitting the bullets when necessary. The Pilot is another great example of well-thinking gameplay. He has probably the worst starting gun in the game with very minimal accuracy but this is supplemented with his active item. This item has a chance to unlock a lock of a chest or door. This creates another tactical type of gameplay because if the item fails to work, you cannot open the chest no matter what. The only way to interact with the chest after that is to destroy it and hopefully get a new item or even a new gun. There is so much more to say about this game but it would take probably an hour. yeah, there are downsides to this game but they are very minimal compared to how much good shit this game has to offer. Don't listen to what he has to say. Look at videogamedunkey's video for example. He says and shows all the good things in a 3 minutes video. Even look at all the people in the comments of this video saying 10/10. I personally give this game a 9.5/10 compared to a game like GTA 5 which I would give 9/10 for the campaign and 7/10 for the Multiplayer. This video very definitely destroys how people think of this game and i do not recommend you listen to Jake.

Its the type of game that a first impression doesn't always give a good feel of the game, I didn't play the game much until I got good enough to get past the first couple floors or so, and then I started playing for hours at a time.
While I'm glad that you recommended this game, I think it's worth emphasizing that there is soooo much depth in this package than what you'd expect, considering the low price tag. As a big shooter fan, this should be on everyone's list if they enjoy the genre. I've got about 80 hours worth of play on my Switch and it's still addictive as hell.
Ryan adams just because dark souls is hard does not mean that every other hard game is like dark souls. This game is not even close to it besides the difficulty.
small disagree : 0:35 In Binding of Isaac you have a chance to equip stuff like Magic Mushroom on your first treasure room, but Nuclear Throne doesn't do that. Nuclear Throne is much more brutal than Enter the Gungeon. Enter the Gungeon classifies guns and items by quality levels but you still have a chance to find red chests on first floor so that isn't too different than the special item system in The Binding of Isaac. Quality levels are accurate in overall but remember that Casey is in D Tier.
Word of warning: thinking you'll be good at EtG because you played Binding of Isaac is like thinking you'll be good at touhou because you played undertale
I picked this game up after seeing TotalBiscuit playing it, and I have to say, I like it so far. It's one part Zelda, one part Smash TV, and a lot of fun. The bosses are tough, that's true, but I think comparing Gungeon to bullet hell titles is a bit of an exaggeration; it's much closer to retro shooters like 1941 in regards to the spray pattern dodging, without the absolutely gobsmacking pattern memorization necessary from a bullet hell. Fun, worth the price, and challenging without actually feeling unfair. Dodging could be a bit tighter, though.
It's a really good game imo. I couldn't recommend this game to anyone looking for a free and easy ride. This game encourages practice, patience, and time. If you aren't ready to commit to getting skill, then you shouldn't purchase Enter the Gungeon or any other game like this.
I would say that if you like rouge-like, get this game. This game is very addictive and a lot of fun. It has a huge learning curve which after like 10-15 runs you start to understand. Though this game is very very unforgiving, with time you will gain experience and you will finally be able to progress in the game. This game is not for everyone, but if you like it, it will be a very fun addiction. 10/10 would open brown chest again.
This channel is by far one of my favourites at the moment. You can tell the videos have a lot of research and effort put into them, and Jake and Falcon are such likeable people aswell. Thank you for the consistent uploads Gameranx! :)
This game is seriously something that I will recommend heavily to Binding of Issac, as Mr. Baldino said it seriously depends as to what you are expecting.
Isaac feels more geared towards Zelda-like dungeon exploration, relying heavily on RNG to give you cool items that can make or break a run and item management. This game feels more focused on skill based bullet hell encounters and risk vs reward. I love both games, but I appreciate how different this one feels. Also, the Gundead kinda remind me of Waddle Dees in that they look so... Harmlessly cute. From the way they walk to the many variations and how they can't hit anything for crap. I kinda want a plushie of one now...
I've had this game for a while now and I love it. You'd think that it would be too hard with being a rogue like and a bullet hell but I've honestly had a 'blast' playing it, sure at points you will have awful runs but it makes up for it when you get an amazing run with lots of synergies. I also love the references that it has as well as the gun related puns. Occasionally you will find it a bit repetitive but for the budget I promise that you'll get hours of game-play out of it.
+Epicmonk117 It's not that hard, as a loving Nuclear Throne and Isaac fan, I can tell you that beating the High Dragun won't take more then 15 hours ( for me)
+Epicmonk117 You'll get there, just keep on playing like all other Roguelike Bullet Hell games. Learn the boss paterns and how to dodge roll, even I often fuck dodgerolling up and dodge into the wall where I can't dodge out :p
If it's not an gritty, over-the-shoulder action game with depressing story, climbing sections, hiring in tall grass and no additional game modes, Gameranx won't give it a fair shake. In other words, if it's not a "PlayStation formula" game, it's downplayed by them
well yeah, my point is is that there are multiple isaac combos (mostly in greed or with shop refresh) that allow you to completely break the game and get like every single item. The closest thing to that in isaac is max coolness from cigs plus elder blank, and even then thats only 50% cdr, in exchange for a lot of lost hp, 2 curse, and diminishing returns because the damage needed to charge spacebar items increases multiplicatively per floor
I enjoy this game to the max,its a breath of fresh air from the battle royal craze and call of duty forgetting how to be good so all in all this just helps push me towards playing it more
jUppers the supply drop update is free coming with annother 100 rooms and two new bosses and over a hundred new items And a paid dlc is coming out later in 2017 now we just wait for it
Alkomusios I’m from the future and to tell you some good news and bad news. Good news, there are no dlc other than this dlc that was made as a joke and it unlocks the micro transactions gun. Bad news, the last update for Enter the Gungeon just dropped.
My friend came and stayed so he brought his switch with him. He used my dock to play this game with me, and even let my brother and I play together while he watched. I’m in 7th grade and my bother is a senior in high school, so I was glad to see that was the first co-op game he enjoyed playing with me! Super fun!!
Personally I love the aesthetic and the writing. Gameplay wise it feels too hard at times, specially when you've cleared a whole floor easily and then the boss totally wracks you, and it sucks if you don't get a single good item in a floor. But the jokes and the style and the merry bullets with their toy guns coming for you... love it.
i didnt really mind the level design. i will admit, after the first 10 runs or so, the first floor looks pretty familiar, but i think they purposely do that so you have a better chance of making it further. good review tho! :D
I've only played co-op over at a friend's place and I loved that. Being stuck on the starter gun wasn't a problem at all as even those are very satisfying
This game is amazing. So many secrets can be found everywhere. References to so many different things. There is even a Soundgarden reference with the Black Hole Gun. 15/10
surprisingly, in the later stages of the game when you have up to 100% unlocked, you might notice that some high tier weapons actually suck, while low tier weapons are just super fun to play with and amazingly strong and you may find a Molotov launcher better than the gilded hydra for example
See, I thought this too for the longest time, but as you get in more hours you slowly get better. I'm to the point now that killing the first boss is no longer hard, granted if you don't get a good weapon you might not flawless it but it's still very beatable.
God I love this game so much. It took me 3 to 5 months (can't remember it's been so long) of consistent gameplay before I finally beat it. And I'm just talking about the "final" boss (because you still have the characters' past to kill). It really is a challenging game, just like Binding of Isaac was. Great game, would recommend for sure.
You fools Thats what someone than knows all the attacks of a boss but is very weak at a dual boss, the trigger twins are very easy, there are not very much bullets as the king bullet, but they get you by two ways (plus the normal enemies spawned), if you brain can't think rapidly to dodge the bullets, you've not made to play the game, I'm not the fool, you're brain is
Well I've finished the game entirely and yet I find the trigger twins harder than the bullet king. But I guess my brain just isn't built to play this game if I have a different opinion.
Serdna Studios Really late comment but just had to stop by because you mentioned Hyper Light Drifter. It’s one of my favorite games and if you never got around to purchasing it, I would heavily recommend it.
Well the first character you should play as is the hunter since she has a dog, which gives new players a needed boost, a secondary, that can help find secret rooms right away, and teaches players to not to worry about using gun ammo as much.
Nuclear throne, which I love and probably have several days logged in, is definitely more cover based and kill everything as quickly as possible than bullet hell based.
the best part about this is the games hidden versatility that weapons have through synergies. For example, he says that the water gun and T-shirt cannon are bad. And while by themselves they are, they both have synergies that make them crazy
The game looks great but the thing i'm worried about is how the game rewards you, some games in the genre do it too easily and some do it too hard. I wish you talked about that part more.
+Stephan Visser have you gotten "the scrambler"? it shoots and egg that breaks and ammo tracks enemies, and makes a shitload of dmg, its too OP but its sooooo fun!!!
I pre-prdered the game because I was so excited after seeing a few people play it before release. That was 2 years ago. I still play this game on a DAILY BASIS, you can never get enough of it. Since release 2 big patches came out that fixed most, if not all the problems it had during launch, and with many achievments and hidden things to do, this game is definitely worth the price tag.
got a gun, that's a bullet, that shoots handguns, which shoot bullets 10/10 would buy again

Enter the Gungeon classifies guns and items by quality levels but you still have a chance to find red chests on first floor so that isn't too different than the special item system in The Binding of Isaac. Quality levels are accurate in overall but remember that Casey is in D Tier.
It's a cool game. I suck at it but I'm still addicted
Me too
Anyone else here after this went free on play at home Playstation event
Yup 👍🏻
im here
Word of warning: thinking you'll be good at EtG because you played Binding of Isaac is like thinking you'll be good at touhou because you played undertale
Touhou players scare me.
+Guerilla Grue Plays
Link is in the game as a NPC btw
its kinda borderlands though
*S P O I L E R W A R N I N G* The bullet's ending is actually a throwback to A Link to The Past. P.S. The boos is Cannon instead of Ganon.
It's not uncommon for there to be 50+ bullets filling 3 quarters of the screen.... That's what makes it a bullet hell.
It's a really good game imo. I couldn't recommend this game to anyone looking for a free and easy ride. This game encourages practice, patience, and time. If you aren't ready to commit to getting skill, then you shouldn't purchase Enter the Gungeon or any other game like this.
One of my favorite games of all time and the first rogue like game I’ve ever beaten. Once you beat it once the game REALLY opens up
Free on playstation next week!!!!
I could hear this guy talk all day
+Bradley porteous
gameranx brooo
+Bradley porteous GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY lol
+Jon Manly I dont think you understand the meaning of guy, especially since you have a child's cartoon as your screen
+Cpt. Fishy patrick is amazing
I finished the game today it took me over 75 hours but it was well worth it
The___ Dog congrats on winning. That is very impressive.
Im 59 hrs in and havent beaten it yet
*Clears* *throat* you got the finished gun
This channel is by far one of my favourites at the moment. You can tell the videos have a lot of research and effort put into them, and Jake and Falcon are such likeable people aswell. Thank you for the consistent uploads Gameranx! :)
+Barney Smith thank you so much!
Great Job! I saw a comment yesterday requesting this and you delivered!
This game is seriously something that I will recommend heavily to Binding of Issac, as Mr. Baldino said it seriously depends as to what you are expecting.
I had it in my Backlog for a while now.
I started playing this game today and after 4-5 hours of playing I absolutely love it.
Well, its 25 bucks...
1:29 is that a bodybuilder bird with a minigun?! sold
if ur in the comments for other reviews, just get it
I've had this game for a while now and I love it.
This game is absolutely amazing on Switch
Yes! I'd reccomend it on switch first to others. Maybe the pc edition if they want access to console commands
@@pampamtamtam4001 why the switch?
EtG is one of those rare games which deserves a re-review as it is totally awesome now with huge ass updates/patches which came after.
Why don't have the video "after you buy"?
#WhatDoIDo
Actually, the Ghostbuster gun is really overpowered. I killed the Trigger Twins first try with it. :0
The brutal difficulty, dodge roll mechanic, and some of the weapons and items remind me of the SoulsBorne games
I know right? Also mimics.
Joe Ballew yea...
+Epicmonk117 It's not that hard, as a loving Nuclear Throne and Isaac fan, I can tell you that beating the High Dragun won't take more then 15 hours ( for me)
BabyDon | Gaming with heart I can barely make it past the first boss...
+Epicmonk117 You'll get there, just keep on playing like all other Roguelike Bullet Hell games. Learn the boss paterns and how to dodge roll, even I often fuck dodgerolling up and dodge into the wall where I can't dodge out :p
None of the items in this game are bad and it doesn’t make you remember them all and you can always just drop them. That’s a major plus
This is the video that taught me that these types of game reviewers are shills
renns reviews and the completionsts are definitely better
If it's not an gritty, over-the-shoulder action game with depressing story, climbing sections, hiring in tall grass and no additional game modes, Gameranx won't give it a fair shake. In other words, if it's not a "PlayStation formula" game, it's downplayed by them
4:00 a water pistol does exist, but it's not necessarily terrible. It sprays water, so you can clear any fire/acid/oil on the floor, for instance
The Binding of Issac, with guns.
More like a baby of hotline Miami and isaac
Its isaac *
Aborted Memes How did I not notice that :(
and the game is really good at not getting completely busted wide open like isaac with blank card jera or double steam sale shop refresh
well yeah, my point is is that there are multiple isaac combos (mostly in greed or with shop refresh) that allow you to completely break the game and get like every single item.
The closest thing to that in isaac is max coolness from cigs plus elder blank, and even then thats only 50% cdr, in exchange for a lot of lost hp, 2 curse, and diminishing returns because the damage needed to charge spacebar items increases multiplicatively per floor
I enjoy this game to the max,its a breath of fresh air from the battle royal craze and call of duty forgetting how to be good so all in all this just helps push me towards playing it more
15$ for more content than a modern AAA title game with no DLC whatsoever
jUppers the supply drop update is free coming with annother 100 rooms and two new bosses and over a hundred new items
And a paid dlc is coming out later in 2017
now we just wait for it
OOF the truth has been spoken
Alkomusios I’m from the future and to tell you some good news and bad news. Good news, there are no dlc other than this dlc that was made as a joke and it unlocks the micro transactions gun. Bad news, the last update for Enter the Gungeon just dropped.
My friend came and stayed so he brought his switch with him. He used my dock to play this game with me, and even let my brother and I play together while he watched. I’m in 7th grade and my bother is a senior in high school, so I was glad to see that was the first co-op game he enjoyed playing with me! Super fun!!
This Game is free now on epicgame store
"One more try" is what I keep telling myself then I play for an hour lol.
Love this game.
The game is more addictive than spice lol
Come on... One more run, I got this come on...
I get pissed when i see negative reviews saying "this game is so difficult" because
*THAT'S THE POINT OF THE GAME*
ikr
Like Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy
This game is pretty damn good. I've sunk quite a few hours into it. Definitely worth it.
I've only played co-op over at a friend's place and I loved that. Being stuck on the starter gun wasn't a problem at all as even those are very satisfying
this is one of my favorite games of all time and i recommend it to any one who plays binding of Issac, i myself am a huge Issac fan as well
Lucid Luke thanks
nine months later this comment chain is very... interesting
There is literaly a micro-transaction gun in the game... 10/10
Isaac+Borderlands+Dark Souls=This
Heaty *Isaac+Nuclear Throne
Isaac+Broforce+Nuclear Throne=Gungeon
I always look forward to gameranx videos, they always inform me on new games.
Wait i just realized...The Lich boss Is on the main menu
misu iustin me too
You nerds lel it’s actually The Gunslinger. Ha casuals
This game gets more fun the more items you unlock and guns and charcters
This game is amazing. So many secrets can be found everywhere. References to so many different things. There is even a Soundgarden reference with the Black Hole Gun. 15/10
Watching them play, not dodge any shots and then be hit by the gatling gull gave me anxiety
SoJesse DogeShibe the way he fights bosses actually upsets me
I absolutely love this game. 10/10
Gameranx: Everybody has a character of their own
Me: No, there is only The bullet and nothing else
243h and I still playa. please do a favor to yourself and buy it. ( supply drop update in one month! #HYPE )
That drop is great.
gameranx: this game needs player skills
Rainbow Mod: haha rainbow chest go brrr
Title should be "Enter the Gungeon- Before you get for free with PS gold"
+SimonicButton9 I enjoyed it, but yeah - it's definitely *that* type of game.
lol
+SimonicButton9 it's a really good game, you'll be lucky if you do get it
They don't do indie games anymore they now just do absolute shit
+Mangy Mayhem they dont do in ps vita not ps4
They did great with this game, its held up to 2 years of time and still being updated with new stuff.
Is Gungeon meant for controllers or keyboard and mouse?
Either. Mouse preferred imo
***** Huh... cool
surprisingly, in the later stages of the game when you have up to 100% unlocked, you might notice that some high tier weapons actually suck, while low tier weapons are just super fun to play with and amazingly strong and you may find a Molotov launcher better than the gilded hydra for example
I like it but if you don't get a good gun before the first boss it is damn near impossible if your dodging isn't perfect
See, I thought this too for the longest time, but as you get in more hours you slowly get better. I'm to the point now that killing the first boss is no longer hard, granted if you don't get a good weapon you might not flawless it but it's still very beatable.
+UnlimitedDashes if you want a tip, focus on learning the boss attack patterns instead of just trying to dodge. Once you know it's wayyyy easier
Try "Git gud"
God I love this game so much. It took me 3 to 5 months (can't remember it's been so long) of consistent gameplay before I finally beat it. And I'm just talking about the "final" boss (because you still have the characters' past to kill). It really is a challenging game, just like Binding of Isaac was. Great game, would recommend for sure.
Do you know that the king is harder than the twins (sorry for do not know the names of them, I play at Portuguese)
A tua cadeira bullet king and trigger twins
IMO the bullet king is pretty easy. I don't like the twins because there are 2 different guys shooting rapidly at you and it is hard to keep track of.
You fools Thats what someone than knows all the attacks of a boss but is very weak at a dual boss, the trigger twins are very easy, there are not very much bullets as the king bullet, but they get you by two ways (plus the normal enemies spawned), if you brain can't think rapidly to dodge the bullets, you've not made to play the game, I'm not the fool, you're brain is
A tua cadeira i find the gatling gull pretty hard because of his " random bullet " patern, the two other boss are more predictable
Well I've finished the game entirely and yet I find the trigger twins harder than the bullet king. But I guess my brain just isn't built to play this game if I have a different opinion.
the randomness of this game keeps u coming back. awesome coding
You should do one for hyper light drifter. I want to know more before i purchase it.
Serdna Studios Really late comment but just had to stop by because you mentioned Hyper Light Drifter. It’s one of my favorite games and if you never got around to purchasing it, I would heavily recommend it.
Your comment got me to look into it, so I grabbed it. About to play it now, looks awesome!
Well the first character you should play as is the hunter since she has a dog, which gives new players a needed boost, a secondary, that can help find secret rooms right away, and teaches players to not to worry about using gun ammo as much.
I bought this game...
It's been a year...
And I still haven't beaten the first level
I probably just suck at games
How many hours you put in?
ouch, thats pretty rough
ugh.... 125
Oh wait...
There are floors!? So that means I've never gotten past one floor. Wow this is a whole new level of self deprecation.
I just recently put a gungeon run up on my channel.
You can check that out if it'll help at all.
Picked it up for half price and man its a good game. Very fun and very challenging.
MrProjectpat15 you got a lot to see buddy!
i have the game and nuclear throne, personally i think enemys are better in nuclear throne, but in the bosses, enter the gungeon takes the cake.
Nuclear throne, which I love and probably have several days logged in, is definitely more cover based and kill everything as quickly as possible than bullet hell based.
4:00 Hey! Don’t diss the T-shirt cannon, man!
This game reminds me of Relic Hunters Zero.
the best part about this is the games hidden versatility that weapons have through synergies. For example, he says that the water gun and T-shirt cannon are bad. And while by themselves they are, they both have synergies that make them crazy
4:10 you can't diss the super soaker when you walk into bullets like that man...
Jake, did you really mispronounce 'nuclear'?
Nuculer
+Storm Jones every time.
+gameranx dude.... 😑
might also be worth mentioning, my friends and have had a lot of fun with the co-op local mode. the games challenge makes teamwork very rewarding
No joke 4 player couch co op shit I'm buying this to play with my boys since borderlands is getting boring
It's not 4 player co-op it's only 2 player co-op
Fr
There is no before you buy with Gungeon, only buy.
or this game is way too hard or i suck
or both idk
the point is... HARD
It's that you suck. If they made it any easier the game would suck.
+jamma246 thank you for your egofilled narcisic comment
Gastronomic Disaster
Thank you for your salty reply to an honest comment.
jamma246 you have a point I suck but im getting better
jamma246 sure, cause now ur allknowing and can be "honest" about the others, praise you.
pro tip: ur opinion is only useful if someone asked it.
You can just see he didn't even get to the oubliette
super soaker = top teir
T-shirt Cannon=God Tier
Pear Rahna no it's shit
The Real Dylamb yep it is
Pea Shooter=Holy Gospel
Dude, Demon’s Head and Fight Sabre are 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
The game looks great but the thing i'm worried about is how the game rewards you, some games in the genre do it too easily and some do it too hard. I wish you talked about that part more.
first second of silence in the intro is sooooo wierd!
The boss I killed with the T-shirt gun was pretty deadly impressed with it. It's actually a strong gun (but slow).
+Stephan Visser have you gotten "the scrambler"? it shoots and egg that breaks and ammo tracks enemies, and makes a shitload of dmg, its too OP but its sooooo fun!!!
Lol, now I want it!
Good game, but only playing it for fun. It gets boring really fast if ur not a hardcore fan.
Nah, this is my first ever rogue like game and I am loving it so far.
This would have been really useful... 3 weeks ago.
