The Guy on the album cover is George Best a legendary footballer from my beloved team Manchester United, one of the greatest players to ever grace the pitch but he was also well known as a party boy and became a heavy drinker during his playing days and lived the rest of his life as an alcoholic, he died in 2005 at the age of 59 from multiple organ failure due to his excessive drinking. His name still gets sung on the terraces at Old Trafford, what a player!!!

Also check out their first single ‘Go out and get ‘em boy!’… it can be found on their compilation record ‘Tommy’ which was released just after George Best was released! After ‘The Fall’, the Wedding Present were one of John Peel’s favourite bands! That says it all!
Interesting choice since the bass player's name is Keith Gregory! You really should listen to the entire "Seamonsters" album by these guys. It's an experience. Very different from the sound on the first two albums though. Worth taking some time to just sit and listen to the entire record. Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed MFD. It's a classic.
A stranger's hand on my favourite dress is one of the most heartbreaking lines in pop. Live this one really pops out. There are many ex-members, not as many as The Fall though. Every year they do a mini festival in Brighton UK, many ex-members play with their new bands.

Great band, great album. As a Manchester United fan I have two George Best Stories to tell. One well known, one not. 1. George Best was known not only for his drinking but for his womanising. He had several affairs with Miss World winners. At this point his career as a player was in decline but he was hold up in a hotel room with the current Miss World. Room service was delivered by a United fan who asked him as he lay in bed with the beauty queen, "George, how did it all go wrong?" 2. George attended a dinner to give an after dinner speech and the other speaker was one of his ex-teammates Pat Crerand. They hadn't seen each other for a few years so after the dinner they went back to George's hotel. When they walked into the hotel Oliver Reed and Alex Higgins, (a snooker player who also liked a drink) were waiting in the bar. They went up to George's room and played a drinking game. One of them would go out of the room and the others had to guess who had gone out of the room. Get it right you have three drinks, get it wrong you have two.
Oh you definitely have to do more Wedding Present. Just start with George Best and work your way forward. I think this song is about seeing an ex with someone else. Awesome choice Nish.

I worked with his cousin for a while. She liked a tipple as well, but had terrible ball control.
