    Re: Dragon Claws: I love the idea of a high level red dragon sorcerer fighting a devil and getting blasted by a fire spell, but when the smoke clears the sorcerer is just standing there, having blocked the worst of the fire damage with their suddenly-dragon scale covered arms, then looking the devil right in the eye and going "okay, *my turn* " and blasting them right back to hell.

    hot take: air should do slashing damage, especially cause media usually shows stuff like an air slice, but yea, water should do cold damage, or maybe acid if it's hot? but generally I would say Cold for Water, Bludgeoning for Earth and Slashing for Air

    • @maaxorus
      @maaxorus ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I actually think sonic would be a good damage type for air. Sound is basically vibrations being spread from one air molecule to the next. Bludgeoning for earth works, but I think modular (b, p, s) would be just fine as well.

    The best thing about Sorcerer is that it unlocks it's final Bloodline spell at level 10 with a feat, so if you multiclass into it via archetype, you get the final bloodline spell, fully heightened, at level 20. Some other casters don't get their final ability til level 12, so you miss out on multiclassing into it

    My personal favourite is Diabolic bloodline. Not only is it thematically cool to be the product of a devil deal, it's also gives you some really great ways to put extra damage into the Divine spell list without sacrificing support capabilities.
    Also, Diabolic Edict is pretty strong for a 1 action focus spell.

    • @JK97SCORPION
      @JK97SCORPION ปีที่แล้ว +2

      and Diabolic Edict can esaily used to buff your ally with a simple request. When you're in a fight, you can buff the one who deals a lot of damage, by giving as a request "defeat or kill that soab!"

  • @nessesaryschoolthing
    @nessesaryschoolthing ปีที่แล้ว +7

    14:22 Diabolic Edict doesn't seem strong, but I love the flavor of it so much! What could sell that you are empowered by the magic of Devils better than an ability that only works if the target willingly gives up their autonomy to you to benefit from it? Every Diabolic Edict is a "deal with the devil!" I can so easily see this on a Hellknight Signifier.

    Dim the lights also continues if you are in some other way concealed - for example in the darkness conjured by the darkness spell (imo the most obvious use of this).
    At mid and late levels this also works against enemies with darkvision if you upcast Darkness (You should).

  • @coriolis_storm
    @coriolis_storm ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi, shadow sorcerer player here! Dim the Light is even weaker than you explain because of its triggering condition -- there are only two darkness or shadow spells below 5th level available to you, and both have downsides: Penumbra is a 1st-level spell that obscures a target's vision... if they don't have darkvision, which the vast majority of monstrous foes will have. Your other option is Darkness at 3rd level... but it's a three-action spell, meaning you won't be able to Sneak away in any case. To compensate for these issues, I worked with my GM to create a "Shadow Puppet" cantrip when I rolled up my character to give them a chance to use the Dim the Light if I needed to. We're now 14th level, and I've never used Dim the Light at all -- ironically, Shadow Puppet has been much more useful in a few situations, to cause a quick distraction or to entertain people we encountered.
    Side note: From the shadow bloodline, you can add the Shadowdancer archetype with a little bit of effort, and that gives you access to a lot of very useful focus spells and abilities, such as permanent Greater Darkvision (amazing when combined with a heightened Darkness!)

  • @DJchilcott

    With Ancestral Memories, I think the placement of a comma makes the spell even more powerful. As written, it says, "Choose any non-Lore, or any Lore skill related to the ancient empire from which your bloodline sprang." The comma after any non-Lore skill, I think, means just that, any non-Lore skill. The requirement that it relates to the ancient empire applies only to the Lore skill.
    If they mean for both the non-Lore and Lore skills to pertain to the empire, I think they would have dropped the comma. "Choose any non-Lore or Lore skill related to the ancient empire from which your bloodline sprang."
    I think, though I'm not sure, that this is an example of the oxford comma?

  • @blobjorn3248
    @blobjorn3248 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    42:40
    Mind the comma there. It says any non-Lore skill, *or* a Lore skill relating to the ancient empire from which your bloodline sprang.
    It means you can get trained in any non-Lore skill. You also can choose to instead become trained in a Lore skill that relates to your ancient empire.

    Undeath's Blessing is a lot better, IMO, than you're giving it credit for.
    One of the single strongest thing that you can do in the game is cast burst heal when your allies are hurt and your enemies are all undead. A level 3 heal spell doing 3d8 healing to all your allies and damage to all your enemies is huge.
    But this is a very rare effect that you can't use very often because it only works on undead enemies.
    Right now there are two ways that I know of to make this effect more consistently usable, and that's to have an entire party full of undead PCs, where it will work with Harm instead of Heal on any encounter where your enemies are NOT undead, or use Undeath's Blessing before the fight.
    I could easily see a high level Undead Sorcerer using all 3 of his focus points for this on his allies before a major battle begins, just so that the Cleric in the party can spam 3-action harms as often as they want, doing massive damage to the enemies and healing to the party.

    • @maaxorus
      @maaxorus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      -I can kinda also see it being able to prevent healing on enemies. If you fight enemies with a lot of positive energy heals on them, Undeath's Blessing makes those heals significantly less useful.-
      Edit: Nevermind, I vastly misunderstood the description. Disregard this please.

    Probably one of the uncommon bloodlines, but i love shadow bloodline. I play a roguish fetchling who goes heavy on shadow and that's pretty cool - if not the most effective. Plus the infamous ring is for once a roleplay staple too. Hopelessly the table i'm playing her is on hiatus, i can't wait to continue her adventures.
    The one bllodline i feel may be the most potent right now is psychopomp. Both their spell list and bloodline powers are very good. Divine is a strong tradition, and its focus spells are ok if not pretty situationnal.
    Draconic stays ok but it's boring. I prefer imperial or genie as an arcane sorcerer.

      It heavily depends on how your table/gm handles stealth/movement, and the amount of darkvision and characters colliding without creating problems your party has.

  • @Tuliems

    Glad you recognised arcane countermeasure on the imperial sorc, it can get even more nutty than the example you mentioned though. Dropping the spell's level by 1 doesn't just mean dropping a fireball by 2d6. Picture an encounter perfectly appropriate for a 10th level character which is where you'd get the focus spell. The big bad enemy caster strolls in and casts a 6th level slow, which affects your entire party. You whip out the countermeasure. With no save, it drops it down to a 5th level spell, but 5th level slow doesn't exist so it's now the next lowest thing it can reach. A 3rd level slow which instead of hitting up to the 10 targets the 6th level cast would hit, only hits 1.
    I'm having an absolute blast playing this bloodline.

    Water = Cold and Air = Electric was always a weird D&D thing to me.
    Realistically, if you use water to harm someone, it's more likely to be some kinda powerful hose doing bludgeoning damage from the impact. To do cold damage, the water would have to be borderline ice. Electricity is more related to fire than it is to air. A strong wind will do bludgeoning damage as it buffets you around, though an argument could be made for slashing.
    Fire = flying doesn't make much sense though, I'll give you that. o_O

      honestly Water could be cold or piercing, like a water jet, if water shoots out fast enough, it's a borderline drill, however oddly enough, now that I'm thinking about it, Air could actually be cold damage too, like chilling frostbite winds

    Hey Nonat! Newer subscriber here so may have just missed them, but have you ever thought about taking requests for Pathfinder 2e Concept builds? Like "4 Ways to make ___ in Pathfinder 2e" or something along those lines? I know I would love some advice on how to make a Samurai (and apparently many others would too) and then just take requests from there?
    I dunno, its your channel but its an idea I had since I'm a newbie to PF2e

    If you want to play a character who is struggling with their darker nature here is an idea.
    Your character is a monk as their primary class and they architype into Demonic bloodline Sorcerer.
    Back story is that your father in the game did awful things to your mother which is how you were born. She died in childbirth and you were taken in by a monastery.
    The monks were determined to help you learn to control yourself and so their lawful good teachings help you to develop self control and learn to be a monk. (Maybe they want your mother's death to have meaning, or they believe that everyone should have a shot at redemption.)
    You struggle with a chaotic evil desire inside of you that you inherited from your father. When you do the glutton's jaws focus spell your face resembles your father's face.
    Your character goal is to come to a resolution with your dark urges and also to hunt down and kill your father.

    They probably only made Fire do elemental damage since fire is the most common resisted element by far, so I'd assume its close to bludgeoning with how much it resisted. Meanwhile stuff like cold isn't really resisted all that much.

    • @kos_

      Also the Faerie Dust focus spell doesen't seem terrible, not being able to use reactions is pretty big, and the will save DC is also quite useful. On top of that its also only 1 action, so you do actually have time to cast a spell to target it yourself or just cast another spell.

    • @kos_
      @kos_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also if I'm reading this correctly, Ancestral Memories is even more powerful than you're reading. I believe its saying that you can choose ANY non-lore skill no matter what, just that specifically FOR lore skills it has to relate to your bloodline somewhat.

    Angelic Halo
    You gain an angelic halo with an aura that increases allies’
    healing from the heal spell. Heal spells gain a +2 status bonus
    to Hit Points healed to your allies in the area.
    Heightened (+1) The status bonus increases by 2.

    28:30: Faery dust is niche but you have to understand how it works. If you cast it on a group of creatures (because of the 5ft burst, and then eventually 10 and 15 ft burst, with only one action) and then follow up with a single target will save, you can targe the one that failed the initial save. So let's say you just want to remove one of those 3 lined hobgoblins from the fight, you can cast 1 action faery dust on them, then cast suggestion on the 1 that failed their save to go get you a tasty treat from their camp.
    Why it's bad though is because the fey bloodline is primal and primal has the least amount of decent will saves out of all the lists. I nabbed faery dust on a gnome bard though and it was incredibly potent when paired with hideous laughter/suggestion/dominate.
    Fey bloodline spells are will focused though.
    Bon mot is overall better also I'd say, cause you can pump diplomacy faster.
    Basically you gotta ask yourself ''if I had the option to take 1 action for a focus spell to give me a 75% chance to have +2 to my DC vs one of these three targets, would I take it ?''

    I think the shadow spells could be really good depending on your party composition and I think they'd be great for intimidating enemies. Cause tbh the flavor of the combat can be so great that your party will love you cause all of you can start a encounter at a pretty big advantage and play as a gnome or halfling to add some comedy to the fight. Granted it's probably best if someone else can intimidate for you while you focus on effectively being Shikamaru from Naruto 😂

    I know this is kind of late, but I'm pretty sure you misunderstood Ancestral Memories, specifically the sentence "Choose any non-Lore skill, or a Lore skill related to the ancient empire from which your bloodline sprang". The comma separates the two subjects, meaning the limitation only applies to what came after the comma. It could also be read as "Choose any non-Lore skill or choose a Lore skill related to the ancient empire from which your bloodline sprang". If there was no comma, then the limitation would definitely apply to both Lore skills and non-Lore skills. If the limitation really was supposed to apply to all skills, then there'd be no reason to call out the difference between Lore skills and non-Lore skills.

    Hey @Nonat1s could you make a video on how to make a Shadow Sorcerer in Pathfinder 2nd Edition? I've been thinking about switching over to PF2E recently, but I want to keep playing the same character (or as close to the same character as possible).
    I think it could be cool, not just for me, but for others to see how to go about making the different D&D 5th Edition subclasses in PF2E. Since there are so many feat options, I'm sure there's a way to make pretty much every D&D 5E subclass into a character in PF2E.
    Anyway, it was just a thought, and I'd love to see how to go about it.
