  • Today we have a 2013 Toyota Venza with the 3.5 (2GR-FE) V6 that has a check engine light. The codes are P0012 and P0015. The light has cleared itself since the initial call from the customer, which leads us to believe that it is not a mechanical engine timing problem. Since the problem is intermittent, we believe there to be an issue with the oil control valves on bank 1. This is a fairly common issue and there is a technical service bulletin (TSB) for it. Search for T-SB-0105-11 for information regarding which trouble codes are responsible which locations on the engine. If the vehicle has codes P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024, or P0025 this is LIKELY your issue. The rear bank requires taking of the upper intake manifold (plenum) but is fairly simple to do. This process should be the same on 2009 Toyota Venza, 2010 Toyota Venza, 2011 Toyota Venza, 2012 Toyota Venza, 2013 Toyota Venza, 2014 Toyota Venza, and 2015 Toyota Venza as well as pretty much all Toyota cars and SUV's with the 3.5 2GR-FE engine. Camry, Avalon, Rav4, Highlander, Sienna, Lexus ES350, RX350.
