Male Lucy....what an amazing idea!! That would make the story in the stage production so interesting. It would add another layer to Jekyll's reluctance in his relationship with Lucy(because of the views on relationships and gender roles at the time that the story is taking place).
I can't believe I'm just now seeing this. For starters, the entire premise of having a man sing this song is mind-blowing in a good way, especially when its meaning changes completely from the original. Incidentally, it is also my favorite performance of "Bring on the Men" I've seen to date. Josh Young's voice is powerful, seductive, and breathtaking, and fits perfectly with his "sexy ringleader" character. The entire performance certainly would not be out of place in, say, "Cabaret" or any musical set in Weimar Republic Berlin. Excellent work to all involved, and thank you, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, for posting this marvelous performance! :D

It's an entirely too rare experience for LGBT people to feel themselves represented in love songs or in sexy, entertaining performances like this one that simply celebrate the joy of sex. (As a gay woman myself, seeing performances where women sing about loving women or men sing about loving men is ALWAYS an incredibly moving moment ; the meaningfulness of seeing yourself represented is undescribable.) And representation in such a positive light matters so much when who you love or who you have sex with remains a subject of hatred, ridicule and violence in real life. Lines like "I want them all, is that a crime?" or "A little touch of sin" gain a whole new meaning when, well, it still IS a crime in many places, and it still is considered a sin by hundreds of millions of people.
I genuinely can't understand how they missed the opportunity of making a dude sing this song, it would fit Victorian setting well with the whole 'I love them all is that a crime?' part and there's heaps of gay subtext in the original book so you'd be sticking very close to the source material and getting all the nuance that comes with it.

Amazing that the sexiest guy on stage is the one fully dressed. His eyes sparkle. His voice is the best around. And he has presence, which is sorely missing in today’s technical performers.

Lyrics:
There was a time
I don't know when
I didn't have much time for men
But this is now and that was then, I'm learning
A man alone, all on his own
Must try to have a heart of stone
So I try not to make it known my yearning
I try to show I have no need
I really do, I don't succeed
So lets bring on the men
And let the fun begin
A little touch of sin
Why wait another minute
Step this way it's time for us to play
They say we may not pass this way again
So let's waste no more time
Bring on the men
I always knew, I always said
A silk and lace in black and red
Will drive a man right off his head, it's easy
So many men, so little time
I want them all, is that a crime, no
I don't know why they say that I'm too easy
They make me laugh, they make me cry
They make me sick, so God knows why
We say bring on the men
And let the fun begin
A little touch of sin
Why wait another minute
Step this way it's time for us to play
They say we may not pass this way again
So let's waste no more time
Bring on the men
They break your heart
They tear your soul
Tear you apart
And yet they somehow make you whole
So what's their game
I suppose a rose by any other name
The perfume and the pricks the same
I like to have a man for breakfast each day
I'm very social and I like it that way
By late mid-morning I need something to munch
So I ask over men for lunch
And men are mad about my afternoon tea's
They're quite informal I just do it to please
Those triple sandwiches are my favorite ones I'm also very, partial to buns
My healthy appetite gets strongest at night
My at home dinners are my men friends delight When I invite the fellas over to dine
They all come early, in bed by nine!
So let's bring on the men And let the fun begin
A little touch of sin
Why wait another minute
Step this way it's time for us to play
They say we may not pass this way again
So let's waste no more time
Bring on the men!
(Big men, small men, short men, tall men
I guess that means almost all men
