Thanks for valuable and honest comment. I don't sell parts and this laptop was dead anyway. I have this blue device (ok ok, I know it is nothing), but my table is grounded too. I guess you didn't see a video of a guy who sitting on the CARPET FLOOR and taking his poor laptop apart He got nothing at all, not even some ESD. I was in shock too. So, I can imagine your shock. I do this type of videos and I am using this drill to speed up a process. Some people like it. Some don't. Sorry about that.

Thanks for this video. I love my 701SD. I am running Linux Peppermint 5 on it and it is very happy. It runs so much better than Xpee. I want to mod it and this video is really helpful. ( I appreciate no music )

My device is not wired, that's why my table is grounded. Jim is pretty dam right! :)
But it is fine, the point of this video is a different one and I hope it is useful for everybody :)

    Just a couple of observations:
    1) You don't need to separate the plastic panel from the metal plate (you will save some time and damages to the plastic pins)
    2) Most the screws are perfectly equal. The twos that hold the modem are shorter. The official Asus guide can be very helpful www.intellcity.ru/content-2/service-manual-notebook-ASUS/service-manual-Asus-Eee-PC-4G-701-Chapter-02.pdf

I did not understand how the screen case opens. Are there latches holding it on? I unscrewed the screws, but I can not make out. Help me please.

Depending on the windows, you may or may not need to upgrade ram. If you want to upgrade hard drive, you would need to make sure you have windows key available.

Just and FYI, for those of you out there. There is NO need to remove the plastic from the metal sheet. I will all come up together. As long as you remove the proper cables from ports nothing will happen. Besides. Removing the plastic casing from the metal sheet breaks all the stupid little nubs and it won't snap back on. It WILL however, stay in place once you replace everything into ti's proper location along with screwing it back together.

No problem. Sorry for the few typo's. I had kids bugging me when I wrote it. Yeah, I find out after I removed it that it just sucks to the plastic once you remove all the screws and the mouse and keyboard cables.

Hey Kimberly, I have kids too, can imagine how difficult it can be! I hope you have fixed your laptop and now everything is fine!!!

seeing how he manhandles this, and uses a drill (how many of us have overtorqued a laptop scre to the point of dislodging the brass insert or breaking plastic), I wouldn't buy any parts off this guy. Not even minimal ESD protection is seen (that drill probably generates a few thousand volts of charge). The motherboard stands a chance of having missing parts based on the way he was prying shit out wildly. Don't buy a motherboard from this guy. The metal is probably stripped from the ribbons. RTFM

Jim its clear he has a arm band on...and the laptop was a piece of shiz brand new it deserves to be manhandled

Happened to me too. Was it a hardware or software issue?

Hardware, I couldn't manage to plug the touchpad cable to the motherboard first time. I had to open it again and press on it harder.
