Crab is my favorite bait for redfish surf fishing. I'll go early in the morning before dawn and catch some ghost and blue crabs to use for fishing . Most of the time I'll cut my crabs into quarters
Never seen a video done on when it’s time to switch to a fresh piece of crab bait. A lot of the time I’ll reel in my crab bait and notice that meat is missing, should I switch to a new piece then or will a red fish still hit the crab shell?
If using whole why cut legs off? I get cutting the claws off to hook them. But I only see cutting the rest of the legs off being beneficial if your cutting the crab in half. If using it whole I’d leave the legs on it’ll still be alive and move like a real crab. Please explain the reasoning behind this. I’m an avid fresh water fisherman. And have fished plenty of saltwater but mostly using squid and minnows on hi low rig for flounder stuff like that. But have caught blues and others on fake baits. Blues will eat up a silver spinner fast. Works great even when surf fishing. In a boat I try to use baits that I can drop tk the bottom and flicker around same as fresh water. My issue was the current and being recommended using to heavy of weights. Worked much better with lighter weights.
@@codybyers7167 thanks, that makes sense. But like if using it whole(live crab) and hooking it the crab will still be alive and should move naturally. Wouldnt that be a better bait than a dead crab cut in half with no legs? I mean I get the scent that comes out when the crab is cut in half. That makes sense to me. But if using it live and whole it just makes more sense imo to let the crab move around by itself.

Nice video. I am currently fishing the marsh in Southern Louisiana, how do I minimize the trash fish when targeting reds with blue crab?

If the redfish are hungry enough, they'll eat it!

Please show us specifically(visually) how you hook the baits. I lose a lot.
U don’t ever have sharks try to eat the fish when landing them? I’d be careful last ten years every year is worse with sharks in bay

Reduce drag in the water.. Also cutting the legs off will hopefully prevent the bait from helicoptering in the water
