    The eyelets are for hanging stuff, not anchoring the tent down..I drilled a hole through the foot of the ladder and then use a tent peg to hold it down. 🤙

    • @unpavd
      @unpavd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Now THAT makes a lot of sense. I was like ... umm why do i need 6 eyelets? Thanks for the info!

    • @tomfrengillo
      @tomfrengillo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unpavd iKamper makes hanging storage solutions that hang from those eyelets. Obviously you can mod out some other option as desired, but that is what they were designed for.

    To keep your tent from lifting in the wind, run a ratchet strap from a top rung of the ladder down to your alloy wheel and snug it up. I learned that having a different brand tent almost close completely with me in it... big yikes on that windy night.
    (edit: just scrolled down to see that someone else recommended that as well, so +1 to that guy's idea then)

    • @unpavd
      @unpavd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for that! Verifying that the strap works wonders.

    I’ve had mine for 1 1/2 yrs now and probably used 150+ times during when I toured Australia. Overall, really like the iKamper. My biggest criticism is the condensation under the mattress and how thin the mattress is. I believe they have fixed this issue with the new Mini 3.0. On a cold night, that condensation is a killer. Like you, got use to the squeak and tent moving in winds.

    I have the same issue with my extension panel on my skycamp. The panel flipped up and picked up the ladder while my 5 year old was inside. It was scary. I contacted ikamper and got nowhere.

    Recommendation about your ledge rattling issue. Install a
    Stainless eyelet bolt on either end of your back bumper facing out to the side. Use a ratcheting tie down strap and put one end through the eyelets you are currently using on the tens bottom and the other end through the eyelets on the bumper. Synch down but don’t Conan them. May need another on the front. Use a mount on the rack somewhere. My two bits. Great video.

      Almost forgot. Buy a cheap bottle jack (2 ton). Put it under your rear bumper hitch on a 2x8 say a foot long. Cut a 6x6 to length so that it almost reaches your bumper when vertical. When parked and set up, charge the jack until tension on bumper. Your vehicle movement and groaning should be fixed.

    • @unpavd
      @unpavd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang! Thanks for the thorough explanation. I'm gonna try the ratchet straps through my wheel first and if that doesn't work then I'll try out your bumper idea. That bottle jack idea 👌 I'll try anything to reduce the tent jostling every time my 🐶 moves. Thanks again!

    I could see how that would be irritating however my biggest beef is you can’t leave your bedding inside that really irritates the hell out of me.

    I keep seeing these tents on trucks but never on the roof rack of a truck is that possible? Because when I camp I bring my motorcycle in the truck bed so I would need it on a roof rack instead

    • @unpavd
      @unpavd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup! Totally possible. Most of the rooftop setups I see have a Prinsu (or similar) rack setup above the cab that they mount the tent to. That'll leave your bed open for your bike.

    • @unpavd
      @unpavd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One more note here. Beware of public parking garages. The tent will give your rig extra height and might not fit in some subterranean parking spots.

    Love the set up. When are you going to do a review on the suspension and the wheel combo? Will probably do the exact same thing with my Taco.

    • @unpavd
      @unpavd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Maybe within the next few months. I’m focusing on more camping gear/overlanding vids for the next few weeks, but I can say that I’m very pleased with this setup. The tires never rubbed even with stock suspension. When I upgraded to the Bilstein 6112s and 5160s I noticed a big positive difference in ride quality in the city and on trails. My 2 cents with suspension upgrades - don’t skip the upper control arms and def get an alignment after you upgrade. Also, if you can, go to a shop that either specializes in suspension or focuses on Tacos + 4runners for best results.

    Something I've done, tie down the bottom rung of your ladder to your rear wheel. Then that wind won't shift the folded out portion of the tent!
