Fit a 33 Inch Spare Tire Under Your Toyota Tacoma - Simple Truck Bed Tire Mount Mod
มุมมอง 18K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I walk through a mod that allows you to mount a full size 33 inch spare tire underneath a Toyota Tacoma bed. The size of this 33" Cooper S/T Maxx tire is 255/85/16 but this mod could also work for a 285/75/16 or similar size. The reason I want to carry a full 33 inch tire is to prep for an irreparable trail flat like a huge sidewall puncture. Originally, I wasn't able to fit the f...
My Biggest iKamper Criticism - Improving the Skycamp Mini
มุมมอง 12K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I discuss the pros and cons of the iKamper Skycamp Mini while overlanding in the mountains. These are my first impressions and review of the Skycamp Mini during a 2 night trip in the Olympic Mountains. I'll start off by saying the iKamper is amazing, and I think it's a great 4 season tent with a compact, easy-to-setup form factor. However, there are some obvious improvements that...

Why I Bought Bilstein 6112s & 5160s - Lifting My Toyota Tacoma Part 1
มุมมอง 65K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is part one in a series where I talk about researching how to lift my 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma. In this video I unbox the Bilstein 6112 front and 5160 rear shocks and walk through why I think they're a great full suspension upgrade for on and off-road applications. I also touch on full suspension lifts vs. body lifts and leveling kits, but you can read up on these in more detail here: trailta...

Tacoma Pizza Cutter Upgrade - Installing 255/85/16 Tires on a Stock Tacoma
มุมมอง 41K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is part 2 of my mini series on upgrading your stock Tacoma with 33s. If you're wondering if 33 inch tires will fit your stock 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma, this video goes through the upgrade process. As you can see here, you can fit 33s on stock wheels without a suspension lift or spacers. I replaced my stock size Ko2s with Cooper ST Maxx 255/85/16, also called pizza cutters, and compare the rid...
Tacoma Skid Plates- Essential Offroad and Overlanding Mod
มุมมอง 1.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว

Why You Should Consider 255/85/16 If You Want 33 Inch Tires - Tacoma Pizza Cutter Upgrade
มุมมอง 61K3 ปีที่แล้ว
If you want to upgrade your offroad or overlanding Tacoma to 33 inch tires, this video talks about the advantages of upgrading to "pizza cutters" or skinny 33s. I talk about 285/75/16 (or wide 33s) vs. 255/85/16 and why the pizza cutters are more feasible. They're big, they fit stock 3rd gen Toyota Tacomas and you don't need a cab mount chop or lift for them to fit without rubbing. Sources I me...

The rear leaf springs in the 3rd generation Tacoma tend to get fatigued over time, so I’m installing an ADD A LEAF when I’m having my TRD lifted 1-1.5” as well as a leveler.

I’m sure someone has mentioned it but the bp51’s are a 2.0 piston. They run an internal bypass which makes them ride nice which how they bleed oil around the piston but that’s why they are so large. If you want to go hard I reckon your better off with the larger piston in the shock

Nah Geolander G003 MT’s are the best 255’s in this size because they are literally the same weight as stock tires. The main problem with the few AT options in 255/16’s are that they are all absurdly heady, completely negating the most important benefit of skinny tires. Everyone is hesitant to go MT over an AT, but looking at the numbers the AT’s make no sense. The G003 are stock weight, more aggressive tread, & E rated, all while being the same weight as the stock 265/75/16 BFG AT tires that came on my FJ. The amount of power loss and decrease in reliability due to wear & tear on engine and suspension components makes the jump to the G003 MT worth it like 10 fold over imo. They also get rave reviews. Anyway, just my 2 cents after doing a ton of research on tires this size. & hey, it’s not super important to me, but the MT’s just look way more badass on any vehicle. These just happen to have none of the downsides of a normal MT.

I had the stock 16 inch steel rims on my Tacoma with 245/75/16 Firestone LE2’s which worked great for me but I was able to get some brand new “take offs” of a 2023 4 runner and got the 17” alloy wheels with 265/70/17 Bridgestone’s and my truck looks like I put a lift on it. So much more ground clearance and no rub whatsoever. Highly recommend for 2nd gen owners and I got them for $500 and discount put them on and gave me the correct lug nuts for them for $150. So new wheels, tires, and lugs balanced and mounted for $650 out the door!

I wish there was a 275/75/16. Or a load range C 255/85/16 yoko MT. But there ain't 😢 I'm considering 255/85 wildpeaks next in the future. I have 265/75/16 load C AT3Ws and they've been great, offroad, never even had a puncture. Climbed, went through mud and water just at 35 psi. Epic. I go maybe 65 mph max with this 98 4runner. Steers great but I don't even need to hit 70. Used to go 120 in the Tacoma. No need for that crap anymore haha

Given that i am carrying lots of extra load do you think this will be a good setup with 33's? I don't want to spend too much money because i do offroading less than 10% of the time. Thanks

Wonderful video and info. I got the impression from the way the tech wash showing you the spare bay issue was a nice guy. Yes, Tacoma world is a source of info, however I find the members to be typical 'bro's” that if they don't know the answer they post snarky BS. On that subject, I find the hole off-road community to be unfriendly and hard to deal with. Clearly not my tribe.

  • @snivesz32
    @snivesz32 ปีที่แล้ว

You didn’t cover the shock valving and that’s the biggest difference between vendors. Choosing the correct valving for your application is the first filter you must have, followed by price/performance. If you are rock crawling at 1 mph, you can do that with stock shocks honestly. The benefit of the larger bodies is more oil and better heat dissipation. But if you’re not overheating your shocks from extended washboard or woops then you don’t need that either. Remote reservoirs give more shock travel by relocating the air/oil separator. When do you need more travel, when you’re going 50 mph over rough terrain.

I'm running a 285/70/R17 Method 706 with a Nitto Trail Grappler on a 2023 Tacoma TRD Offroad and this 100% did not work for me. Great suggestions by everyone in the comments, but even with pulling the tire back while raising this sits less than 1/2" from the rear diff, touches the heat shield on the exhaust and hits the leaf spring hanger bracket. Maybe it's because I went with hybrid muds instead of an all terrain. /sigh was worth the try before investing in a swing out tire carrier. Thanks for the video!
