I used both in my STi. I had the MAF & MAP/SD maps blended sorta like a Flex Fuel map. The MAF controled closed loop & light load driving while Speed Density controled the Open Loop/WOT sections. This way you don't have to worry about performance when or if ur driving in higher altitude and colder temps.

I'm running SDos on my `99 Trans Am LS1 and wow does it ever sip (gulp) a lot of fuel! I like how it runs and it's not my daily. Might go back to the MAF. It did run very well there.

I have found with blended most shops massage the maf, some pe and little timing. And never touch the VE unless idle area.

I tuned and tuned vve and still maf runs way better. So what is the down side of turning off sd / ve tables and running only maf? Since when I turned everything back on it was slow like when I had it running only ve / sd.

Andre, I've never seen anyone do it but why not use mass flow with speed density and humidity as well to build tables for correction? Over time and various ambient conditions and altitude wouldn't you have the ultimate VE table for running high revs and boosted big cam situations? Even opening up your intake pipe 25% about 6 inches before the maf sensor would get more accurate readings? Maybe spilt the intake running dual maf sensors would really get it more accurate? Speed density could alert you to boost or vacuum leaks if the data didn't jive? Not for OEMs it's not important. I've seen too many cars pop from hiccups in the system with a tune that's right on the edge. Certain intakes don't feed the cylinders equally and burn down the crown when people think they are in the green zone. (Gen 3 hemis for one)

Great video again keep it up. So you are saying i should keep the maf on my holden vy ss ute gen3 ls1 v8 rather than go and get a mafles tune done?

would it still be a good idea to switch over to speed density tuning with a stock ecu? is SD only for standalones?

But speed density systems still uses ait and baro, engine coolant temp, along with map, a simple aftermarket ecu like my haltec ps1000 uses all of these inputs to determine fueling/timing along with cam angle, boost by gear, etc it opens up so much additional functionality without the restrictions of a maf Orem style system, sure you can manipulate a maf system but only so much

I'm running MAF only on my 2015 Camaro. Runs so good 🙌

Interesting commercial about excessive paw licking in dog related to poor gut health. They had some dog chews but i give our same Culture as I take.

Everyone arguing in the comments while I sit here with my closed loop SD tune lol. Lets not forget that PCMs are able to read barometric pressure from the MAP before starting the motor or that the pressure readings by the MAP sensor would inherently shift with elevation/weather changes anyway. MAFs are more like a game of telephone; the message may be precise at that exact point but could be changed by the time it reaches the final destination.

Can you explain how a heated resistor that reads temp changes can compensate for barometric pressure changes? (and density...as its the same thing as what pressure tells you) Last I knew, a MAP did all of that. If you have a leak after your MAF, your car will run like absolute dogshit mate....with IAT and MAP, it can run with a vacuum leak...better than that calculate MAF setup that is shooting as much fuel into car that was measured by MAF. now, there are guys out there in the 99-03 Grand Prix scene in the US that run both. Why? becuase mixing the two can get more of a well nailed down tune. I would prefer speed density though, race car or daily driver. JMHO.

maf tuning is definitely underrated, i started wondering why is it that most newer civics are tune on speed density when it could be done using maf for a more consistent tune.

Speed Density > MAF in any remotely serious car 🤙
