"Mariposa Bella" - Filipino Folk Song in Spanish (1898)

- Paru-Parong bukid is a traditional Filipino folk song which originated from "Mariposa Bella", a Filipino song in Spanish originated in the 1890s.
The song "Mariposa Bella" was composed during the time of American invasion of the Philippines around 1898
In 1938, "Mariposa Bella" was totally forgotten. The Tagalog "Paru-Parong Bukid" was released as a soundtrack of a film of the same title. It was composed by Felipe Padilla De Leon.
Guillermo Gómez Rivera, released an LP in 1962 entitled Nostalgia Filipina which includes the original Spanish song "Mariposa Bella". The version in this video is Gómez Rivera's rendition.

As a Filipina and knows about so many folks songs I can already realize the song by the tone and it's called Paru Parung Bukid here literally popular with the kids as they learn in it Elementary days or so on just glad they also have these kind of song in Spanish cause Spanish is like our old ancestors too

Yes, Spanish language is still spoken in the Philippines. But the native speakers are in small amount. There's a rise in Filipinos who can speak Spanish due to the availability of Spanish Subject in some Universities.

It's not that the Spanish Speaking Filipinos decreased but rather it's because the Population rapidly exploded and with education back then during the American Era, English were chosen over Spanish. From sonewhere 6.5 Million Population during 1900s to 100 Million Population now in the present it's not surprising that the Spanish Speaking Filipinos seemed to disappear.

The demonization of the Spanish Language by both the American occupiers and over-nationalistic tagalistas led to the drastic change in how Filipinos viewed their history. The Filipino heroes and ilustrados, such as Aguinaldo, General Luna, Rizal, José Alejandrino, Gregorio del Pilar, and many more, including many presidents such as Quezon, Elipidio Quirino, Jose Protacio, Carlos García, Diosdado Macapagal, etc. were Spanish speakers first and foremost, and they never actually hated Spain, as Aguinaldo himself regretted rebelling against Spain and despised the fact that the Spanish language was disappearing in the islands, and his sentiments were correct. Filipinos today can only view their history from the American prospective, and many hardly know that our national anthem was written in Spanish, as well as “Bayan Ko”, and our history which was written in Spanish by both the Spaniards and Filipinos have been lost. Perhaps if Spanish is made official once more, Filipinos will have an interest and new perspective on their past, not view all Spaniards like the fictional Padre Dámaso.

Imagine if the Philippines have the Spanish language again. I think Zamboanga City was the remaining city that can speak spanish or chavacano. The last town or city was using spanish or chavacano language was in cavite. .
And Ternate too which is the origin of Chavacano Language influenced from Indonesia(Ternate, Maluku Utara)
chavacano is basically just a spanish creole language, so it *could* fall under romance languages so therefore be spanish.

According to the DIRAE (Diccionario de la Real Academia Española, the official dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy) Spanish took the word "carey" from the taíno language (the indigenous language of the inhabitants of the Caribbean)

@@thevision3273, on second though, I listened to all the Paruparong bukid songs I could find including Nora Aunor's ang Mabuhay singers' and I might have to correct you. I can say that they are as beautiful if not way better.
