I'd not heard of them once but I thought this performance was super fun to watch. I thought at first that this was a unique appearance they took up just for Hellblade but I looked up some of their other work and I was surprised that this is just their style. I hope they were happy to be at TGA because I'm really glad I got to see them and I probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Honestly I'm not usually the biggest fan when bands come to play because it's just not my thing. Initially when she said "Heilung" my thought was "who??" But wow I loved the performance. I've been listening to this over and over since the show ended.

And because I doubt it so much, I doubt that it's live. - If not partially. - There's particularly something off about the singing. Always. Like it's not in sync. And I don't know if it's just audio/video-synchronization fckery or if it's actually... just not live. - Also, the audio sounds too polished to be live, which is a big telltale. And I mean for all of the acts with these shows. Including the "Alan Wake 2" act, and the orchestra-"performances". All of them. - But also Heilung doesn't quite sound like this live. - I've watched live concerts, both on video and in person, all my life, and I feel so deceived with these award-shows.

Could be The Game Awards wanted everyone to 'play live' to a backing track including the orchestra so it could be perfect. Anyway I doubt Heilung would need to prove anything, I mean the drums would still be heard live if they are beating on it. The song is pretty simple too, could be the live mixing they do that makes it sound good. But you are right about Heilung singing somewhat differently, like Maria sings in a new way for the soundtrack compared to how she sounds in Heilung's music, it's like a totally differently style. Live Sessions are when bands do fully play live, however that live performance is either mixed on the spot or in post to result in what you are hearing in the transmission. Also I don't know what you're saying about "Heilung doesn't sound like this." They are known in Europe for having very good sound engineers and mixers and all of their live performances are captured very well audio wise. The reason most live/concert performances don't sound like this, its because they aren't actually mixed. They are either just fed straight from what is going into the on stage speakers, or from the actual PA systems which gives performances that jank "reverb" sound. When a performance is mixed properly (like this), it results in it sounding this good and polished.

It quickly went beyond just them being some artists who happen to be doing the soundtrack for a game. I went on to just get all their albums and see their rituals live as well. - It might not be everyone's thing, but their whole act goes deep, if you let it. - So this is a weird but awesome cross-over to me. Videogames, an award-show for them, and a ritualistic musical group that has meant a lot to me over the last three years (and probably kept me alive, believe it or not). - This is what it's all about!

I hated certain elements of the first game but overall I did find it enjoyable I get so sick of having to go around, looking for secrets and items and etc. etc. etc. was nice just to go an adventure and fight stuff. Sometimes I wanted to skip cut scenes though, and I hated the ending simply because I couldn’t tell whether I got the real ending… because I died before I got to finish least that’s how I saw it. Like the fight with the water where you keep getting into constant big fights and the dude is talking about your mother. After killing about 30 of those guys I died and I just shut the damn computer off. I was so pissed off because I’m thinking I’ve already died a few times if I have to start back from the beginning and I can’t kill the cut scenes I’m gonna be furious. But then it did it again at the end like I thought at least 30 4050 guys and they all went down quicker than normal, and I kept an inch from death but then there wasn’t an end I just died because I couldn’t keep taking one or two hits…. And apparently it still counted me as beating the game I don’t like that. I like definite triggers especially in a game where it says if you die too much, you’re gonna have to start at the beginning… the amount of anxiety, I felt because of that was not due to the subject material in the game, it was because it was unclear whether or not I actually finished it so I couldn’t enjoy it. It didn’t even watch the ending. I did not like that. And honestly, I thought the story could’ve used more polish. It was a little pointless in the end. And the voices and stuff were neat and sometimes helpful… A lot of times they were just kind of there and didn’t add much. I would still recommend it and hope this one is even better.
