Friends, I've been on a soup kick lately! What other soup recipes are you craving?? Don't forget I have other vegetarian favorites like butternut squash, roasted cauliflower, sweet potato soup, lentil soup, and more on the website! :) xo - Lisa
Big soup lover here, too! I like to see flavorful split pea and pumpkin soups, or anything pumpkin. Oh, I can't wait to look up your butternut squash soup recipe. I grew my own pumpkins and butternut squash this year so I am looking for more recipes. Two of my favorite nonvegitarian soups are Unstuffed Cabbage Roll Soup and Potato Kale (like Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana 😋).
I would love to see a broccoli soup .. a smooth, delicious broccoli soup, to which I can add some shredded chicken at the end….oh boy that would be good, I know it!!! 😊
I love soup! Bring on the soup recipes! Creamy Potato, carrot soup, any creamy soup. I just made a delicious roasted winter squash soup, I love your leek and Potato soup. I could could go on
For anyone who wants the recipe: 1 red onion 2 sticks of celery 1 large carrot 1 jalapeno pepper 4 large garlic cloves 3 tins of black beans 2 tsp cumin 1 tsp dried oregano 1 tsp ground coriander 1 tsp of salt dash of cayenne pepper 3 cups of broth 1. Chop up vegetables and mince garlic. 2. Saute vegetables for 4-5 minutes, then add minced garlic and spices, and cook until spices are toasted and fragrant. 3. Add beans and cook for 2 minutes before adding the stock. 4. Bring to a boil and then lower heat, cover pot and let simmer for 15 minutes. 5. Partially stick-blend and stir to assess consistency desired.
Made this for dinner tonight. My husband only added rice and chopped onions. I went all the way with rice, onions, sour cream, spritz of lime juice and avocados. It was delicious. Definitely a make again!
Great soup. I used DRIED BLACK BEANS which I first cooked in a pressure cooker. For anyone wondering, the volume of cooked beans to match the three 15 oz. cans in this recipe is 4.5 cups.
I HAVE THROWN OUT ALL MY OTHER BLACK BEAN SOUP RECIPES! This is the most amazing, remarkable soup I have ever tasted, and my friends said the same thing! They said if I only ever make one soup ever again, THIS ONE IS IT. 100 STARS! THANK YOU!
I'm from Venezuela, and I grew up eating black beans, pinto beans, lentils, chickpeas... All kinds of beans with rice and avocados from the tree in my grandmother's house. Her secret for the vegetable base was to put white vinegar after the spices, letting the alcohol evaporate and making that acidity give an incredible touch to the vegetable base, cumin and coriander can never be missing. And we give it that dairy touch with grated white cheese, lots of cheese! But sour cream helps too! Your recipe looks delicious, congratulations!
Loved the tip about adding the vinegar and the herb suggestions. Im an expat from the US , and live in Ecuador…they use alot of cumin and coriander , as well , but I have yet to find a dish that Im particularly fond … I was wondering, do you cook black beans with coconut milk in Venezuela? I know in Jamaica they use coconut milk , and might add pumpkin or other squash chunks in their black beans.
I make this soup, but with an ingredient that you are missing that gives it the ultimate yumminess: red bell peppers, not green, not yellow -- RED! I put a whole bunch of fresh chopped cilantro also, then serve with a dollop of sour cream and some of the chopped cilantro as garnish. Best ever!
I am highly sensitive to the kind of spices that burn. What do you think about this? If I use only one strip of jalapeño cut up. Would that still burn, do you think? Would one s trip help the flavor or would it get lost?
I just love the way you eat so simple, organic, and refined I remember when I was looking for a channel that expressed all these traits and being frustrated at trying to eat healthier after stumbling upon this channel by the fall meal prep I've been obsessed with the food thank you from the bottom of my soul
I made this for dinner tonight. It's so yummy! We're all sick, and it's so nice to eat a hearty healthy soup. I've been looking for a simple black bean soup recipe forever. This is it! Thank you!!!
This soup my friend is the bomb!! Many yrs ago I had a awesome black bean soup in Cozumel and I have never been able to find anything quite like it. Well this is it!!! I made it double and exactly like you listed and i LOVED it. I added seriously sharp cheddar shreds and chopped cilantro with some crushed almond nacho chips as my toppings... YUM! Looking forward to my leftovers
That's my preferred way. I ladel it over jasmine rice I cooked with chicken bullion, dried celery flakes, parsley, and onion, smells wonderful. I toast my rice in a little olive oil before adding water and sometimes add a little pasta/fideo when toasting, for extra interest. Serve with corn tortillas or chips.
Lorena, my parents are Ecuadorian and your way is the way I grew up eating it. Lisa's soup is yumming though. I'm making it tomorrow for the second time. YUM.
Amazing stuff! All your videos are so well done and very useful and helpful. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. Have you ever used any of these custom meal plan tools? I got one from Next Level Diet to help me add some muscle and I actually like their plans. Was just wondering if you've heard of or tried any of them yourself. Thank you!
You were not kidding! This soup is delicious!! We topped it with Doubliner Cheddar, green onion, sour cream, Cilantro and squeeze of lime. Perfect amount of spicy/heat. Thank you for sharing with us.
this is actually a very cool concept for a video it's nice to see you eat and live in the everyday life of the world aside from every body You are not like anyone and this is what makes you a special and exceptional person. I wish you a happy life and to everyone who reads my comment ❤️🥰💖😍😘🍓♥️
I love black bean soup. And since your recipes never fail me, I will be trying this next week. Soup is such a staple of me, I love how it reheats and is a quick yet comforting food.
I made it tonight for my parents, and we all loved it! Added red bell pepper like someone suggested and ate it with sour cream, avocado, cilantro, and some cheesy corn tortillas 😋 definitely gonna make it again
Your recipe was delicious. I added one cup roasted corn (TJ frozen) and 1/2 tblsp smoked paprika. For me, corn goes with black beans like peas goes with carrots. I did your whole roasted chicken last week. Thanks for the great, easy videos.
The first time ever I had black bean soup was in this tiny little restaurant in Jupiter FL. They served it with a lime wedge, little bit of Greek yoghurt and a mango, cilantro and red onion salsa. It was so delicious. This black bean soup tastes almost identical to it. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I’m making it for the second time in one week
I have swapped over all my food storage for GlassLock and Weck storage thanks to you. I line the Glasslock with green bags (that absorb the gasses of ripening produce) that I cut to fit the storage container, put a layer of paper towel on the bottom and it extends the shelf life of vegetables and fruit by 3 to 4 times. I have a hard time with the shelf life of bell peppers and this method has doubled the shelf life. I'm so glad I learned about Glasslock and Weck from you. I am going to make this soup this weekend, but I plan to make homemade stock since that's my preference for making soup. I love your presentation, your recipes and your great ideas!
I add a 15 oz. pkg. of sweet frozen corn along with the beans, for a sweeter, more varied taste. Basically, I used the Mexican corn and bean salad I sometimes make, only use the addition of mushroom &/or vegetable stock to make it as a soup. Either way - it's delicious!
Budget friendly and clean ingredients and delicious thank you Lisa for the tips you share they are so helpful and your Mom is very blessed to have you for a daughter and you with the Mom she is-
Thank you so much for this recipe. I have made it today and it is delicious. So far none of your recipes have let me down. I still use the spice mixes you have given about a year ago. Greetings from The Netherlands
I made this soup last night and it was amazing. I am having the leftover soup now and it's even better. I did add cilantro but kept the rest of the recipe intact. Thank you so much! This is our new favorite!!!!!!
I made this for my family and it was all gone in one meal. I had to make a second batch for leftovers. Thank you, it was a simple and easy recipe to follow and delicious.
I prepared the seasoning a few days ago. I cooked the organic black beans by myself. I didn’t use the can. I cooked it today and it was so delicious😋I will cook it again. Thank you for sharing😘.
THANK YOUUUU SO MUCH for this recipe!!! I love black bean soup and I cannot believe I’d forgotten all about it. I made your white chicken chili last week and shared it with my mom and some friends and they all LOOOVED it!!! So thank you for that. I can’t wait to get your book!!!! I will definitely make this one this week!!!! My mouth is watering already … 😋🤤
Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I added a red bell pepper as advised by a previous comment. The soup was soo good it didn’t need the lime or cilantro! I paired the soup with Mexican rice😋
Made it today.....with some tweaks because that's all I had at home and it was amazing! Just what this cold and rainy week needed! Thanks so much!! I had to use a can of white beans, no coriander, no cayenne pepper. I used some spicy chili powder and a dash of smoked paprika and chicken stock. Can't wait to share this with friends!
You are an excellent chef! Recipe is well explained and presented . Ingredients are simple and easy to acquire. Thank you for making delicious, healthy food without meat!💋
Literally just made this soup after watching the video a while back but got busy. OMG!!! The best ever. Totally easy to do and hit the spot. This will be staple, especially with winter coming. Thank you sooo very much for this.
I made it tonight, only change was I added 2 ears of fresh corn, its Summer so ya! So simple, yet with the additional accoutrements, it makes a fabulous meal. Now that I found your site, I will try some of your other recipes.
This looks fabulous! The fresh lime at the end, for me, just screams YES!!! Coriander added to my grocery list so I can make this tonight. New subscriber. 🙂
Great soup, as you mentioned, there are plenty of versions of this soup. In my country, we cook the beans from scratch in the slow cooker with plenty of herbs and I leave it in low heat overnight; then I add some eggs to hard-boil them in the soup, we also serve it with cilantro on top and with the eggs!. I will definitely try this one for my father, who loves a good bean soup. Thank you!!!
Being from south Florida, I have always been a fan of black bean soup (a friend of mine's Cuban mom would make a delicious version for us when we were kids). Anyway, I made this for my wife and stepdaughter and it was a hit! My previously soup-averse teen stepdaughter has declared this to be one of her new faves. Great recipe, thanks for posting. Keep up the good work!
I've used refried beans to create the creamy consistency. Used this recipe as a starting point, but added more veggies, used different spices, didn't rinse the beans (using the liquid as my broth) and added non-meat ground beef from Trader Joes. Makes the whole thing more hearty and filling. Very delicious! Thanks for the inspiration!
I just soaked a combo of beans, so I will turn them into soup! Delish. I'm going to invest in those glass jars for freezer storage. Thank you for consistently sharing awesome recipes.
THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! I'm NOT a cook! Repeat...NOT A COOK! This was easy to make. Oh my goodness!! SOOOOO YUMMY!! My daughter added a little cheddar and smashed chips on top.... perfect!😃❤
This looks delicious, Lisa. Love the last minute squirt of lime. If I were out of citrus (😱) I would use a splash of sherry vinegar. Whether I follow your recipes exactly as written or use them as inspiration, they never disappoint!
I make black bean soup all the time. I cannot for the life of me bring myself to use canned beans though. So I cook the beans in a crock pot and add green onions or white diced onions and a few cloves of garlic, once soft then I add the salt. Then you can add toppings. The best!! 🤌🏻
I am NOT A HEALTHY EATER/COOK. My daughter stays on my hubby and I to eat better! We do from time to time do something healthy but O MY GOODNESSES 😀, your recipes are FANTASTIC Xs 10. Thank you so much for sharing n putting us on a much better path to the rest of our years here on earth. We are both 78. FYI: hard to eat healthy when we live in NEW ORLEANS. 🎉 LOL
Okay, you have rocked my world! Thank you! I love black beans and I do appreciate decent, thick soup with a great deal of layered flavors. I will experiment with it and then perhaps serve it to a deserving friend. Thank you.
The best black bean soup I've ever had, by far, was in a hotel in Guatemala City, many years ago. I tried to recreate it for years, with no luck. This recipe looks promising, I like the idea of blending a portion of the soup. Thanks for sharing.
Genius! I love how you showed us about how to make it creamy by putting part of it in a blender, without adding any cream or other saturated nonsense. And thanks for the tips on the spices.

Thanks!😃
I am Mexican American and I grew up eating this soup. I’m so happy you added the lime at the end! It truly is a humble and comforting soup 😊
Can't forget the lime juice! 😉
Black bean soup is one of my favorite soups!
It's also VERY healthy for you!
It’s always time for lime (with or without coconut lol)
i cannot get enough Mexican food lately as I visited Ft. Worth/Dallas recently and had the best food!
Made this for dinner tonight. My husband only added rice and chopped onions. I went all the way with rice, onions, sour cream, spritz of lime juice and avocados. It was delicious. Definitely a make again!
Love it! Glad you both enjoyed this soup Liz.
Tell your husband that all rice is contaminated with inorganic arsenic.
@Susie Angelique thanks for the advice... but we have eaten rice our whole lives. So many product have trace amounts of things not good for us.
Great soup. I used DRIED BLACK BEANS which I first cooked in a pressure cooker. For anyone wondering, the volume of cooked beans to match the three 15 oz. cans in this recipe is 4.5 cups.
Did you use the liquid from the pressure cooker in place of the stock then?

This recipe looked wonderful but Im switching over to dried black beans Thank you for making my life EASIER.

Gail Ducrest, I would start with a few pickled jalapenos, chopped. You can find them in any store in a jar. They're not as fiery as fresh.
@@karenkish4222 Thank you so much. Pickled peppers….
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. I had to look it up.
I also use baby bells (multi-colored ones since I like that extra color in the soup).

Man, that soup poured on top of some cubed up avocado would be da bomb!
I made this soup today! You are so right, fresh lime juice is a must! I only added one spoon of Greek yogurt as a topping. Quick and delicious
Wonderful! 😊
I’m a novice cook at best and this recipe turned into the best Black Bean Soup I’ve ever tasted. Bravo!

I really appreciate the tip about freezing half and setting one serving in the fridge for tomorrow. Very helpful. Thank you!
Glad those tips were helpful!
In Brazil we don't consider it soup. It's a main dish that we serve over rice. I will definitely try your recipe. Thank you.
That's my preferred way. I ladel it over jasmine rice I cooked with chicken bullion, dried celery flakes, parsley, and onion, smells wonderful. Another tip for added spicy goodness, is to not discard the jalapeno seeds. 😁

This looks delicious, Lisa. Love the last minute squirt of lime. If I were out of citrus (😱) I would use a splash of sherry vinegar. Whether I follow your recipes exactly as written or use them as inspiration, they never disappoint!
Great idea Nina! Thanks for sharing and hope you enjoy this new soup 😊
Awesome instruction...and beautiful easy recipe.
That spice combination sounds really good!
Thank you.
Looks GREAT! Will be making this soup this week!! Thank you!
Black bean soup is the best!! Thank you for the recipe ☺️
I love this soup recipe - have made it a couple times now and it never disappoints! Thank you!
Glad you enjoy it!
The best black bean soup I've ever had, by far, was in a hotel in Guatemala City, many years ago. I tried to recreate it for years, with no luck. This recipe looks promising, I like the idea of blending a portion of the soup. Thanks for sharing.
Aw, so glad you're enjoying this black bean soup!
I made the BB soup today. It was tasty along with corn bread and a salad. Thanks for the recipe.

I made this for dinner tonight. It was, of course fabulous !
Genius! I love how you showed us about how to make it creamy by putting part of it in a blender, without adding any cream or other saturated nonsense. And thanks for the tips on the spices.
