We watched this in my English class last year. This is what got me into spoken words poetry. Now I'm writing my own poetry (over 600 notes on Tumblr) and am listening to new poems everyday, thanks to this video. I fell in love with this video, and tried to linger in the classroom after the bell rang and it was still playing. This inspired me, because while my anxiety gets in the way of me passing English every year, poetry is becoming my escape. Never underestimate women. Never underestimate poets. Most of all, never underestimate women who happen to be poets, and poets who happen to be women.

I feel like she raised so many good points. People do walk with armors, protecting themselves from emotions because one of them might carry a little pain. People do listen to you waiting for their turn to talk, they no longer care about the quality of your words but only to contradict them. I've never really enjoyed poetry because I felt like poets speak in ways they only understand, they only want to tell their story and not that of others, the voiceless, the small. It allows you to communicate your self-interest, your narcissism and then be applauded for it. But now, I realize I'm wrong, this girl's changed my mind in 18 minutes. Funny enough, my name is Sara too and I feel like I can do the impossible.

I want to write poetry so damn bad. I admire poets so much and I aspire to be them. most people, however, don't take 17 year olds too seriously. I've been in public speaking since 7th grade and this really reminded me how unique everyone's writing is and how unique their stories are.
Poetry doesn't have to be wise, it can be about anything. You can make a poem about the color of a blanket, or your friend, anything, there are no rules to poetry. :)

Sometimes I even sing "there's days like this my momma said" and I've never even heard the song it came from or if it's even a real song. This is still one of my favorite Ted talks of all time. Truly inspirational. 7 years since it first came out, and everything she says is still relatable. This is how I want to raise my kids some day... It is evident that she feels the pain of everyone affected by the bombing. She is so intellectual, and at the same time so humorous! Her wide eyed gaze represents her innocence, and her vision throws bright, gold light on every topic that people fail to discuss out of shame or indifference.

Funny how internet is so timeless although uploaded a few years ago I find myself stumbling across these remarkable journeys and I wonder where they would find themselves now. Thinking that of a dream come true and a huge career move how far ahead can you ponder and in which direction will you wonder? Caught a glimpse of this video's description on the main TED site and was going to pass it up and watch something else but something made me click through and watch it. I'm glad I did. You can Sarah's soul and passion in what she is saying and while I'm not the greatest reader or the most creative writer it's inspired me to maybe do more to become better at those things. I've recently read we No Matter the Wreckage and found myself wishing for more. I found this and said "Wow!" One of the best voices I have ever heard in spoken word.
this was my first TED talk. It inspired me to talk at TED someday. Like someday 10 years from now..... but then magically, I might get to speak at TEDx this year!!!
Finally, I can hear what the poetess is saying. Love it, understand it even. It is said at a speed that is vexing, a quietness that speaks volumes. Sarah, you speak with heart and it does not have to be vulgar or shocking. I will be listening for more and go back to writing.
Her way of expressing those poems make them even more beautiful. I'll be performing my 1st spoken word in 7 days. I hope I can do at least 1% of the magic she does. :D

When i am upset i just watch the very beginning and the inspiration fills me with love
Thank You. My English Teacher showed me this during a hard time and taught me to start writing poetry. Yesterday I shared my own spoken word poetry along with If I Should Have a Daughter. This is the first time I have shared my poetry and it was almost freeing.This was 4 years after I first saw this video. This video showed my spoken word and I could not be more grateful. Thank You.

my 7th grade English and creative writing teacher showed me this. I was going to memorize it but I never finished. she was the best teacher. recently she moved to Alaska to teach. I will never forget this

Funny how internet is so timeless although uploaded a few years ago I find myself stumbling across these remarkable journeys and I wonder where they would find themselves now. Thinking that of a dream come true and a huge career move how far ahead can you ponder and in which direction will you wonder? I guess I will just wait for the next picture tube and leave a thankyou and a thanks too you for the inspiration and admiration you have instilled in a young poets heart, mind and soul. This memory now shall never be or grow old it remains another beautiful story told.
It's the poetry that's timeless - we used to read poetry from books, and old poetry still has stuff to say. But it's thrilling to hear Sarah speak it!
Caught a glimpse of this video's description on the main TED site and was going to pass it up and watch something else but something made me click through and watch it.
I'm glad I did. You can Sarah's soul and passion in what she is saying and while I'm not the greatest reader or the most creative writer it's inspired me to maybe do more to become better at those things.
I should really watch more TED talks for this kind of stuff!

I've recently read we No Matter the Wreckage and found myself wishing for more. I found this and said "Wow!" One of the best voices I have ever heard in spoken word.
