“I’m shocked everyone is so surprised” me too! You have autism coming out of your ears in your family lol! But I’m all seriousness people (generally) have a very narrow view of what autism can look like. I’m so happy you’re out here opening eyes to how varied and diverse the spectrum is!
I just love how much you respect your kids and think about how being on video would affect them in the future. Very different from some other channels.
"I was ready to stop hating myself." Wow that is so powerful. Thank you for sharing that. I can relate and im glad to hear someone else voice that (with the intent that they can get help for themself).
I've been following you for a while & now at the age of 5 my son has been diagnosed with autism so I appreciate you so much for you help and taking us along with you on this journey we call life. I'm hoping to share my story soon on my channel as well because it's been a crazy one
Ahhh "you talk too much with your hands," that struck such a chord with me, especially that kids used to pick on me at school for doing that. I finally got my Aspie diagnosis at 20, I'm 24 now and when you talked about the whole diagnostic process it brought back memories for me. I'm really happy that you too found out the truth about yourself :-) and I've been watching for a fair bit now and feel you should be proud of your journey and how far you've come! I've since found out I've got BPD as well, and will try to get evaluated for ADHD though mental health services in the UK are very slow, took over a year to even get assessed!
I'm going to be 34 next month and I have to say you have given me the courage to get myself tested. I need to know myself and hopefully I get answers. So glad you are so open about this.
Unfortunately people who do not deal with people with disabilities don’t understand what they say when they see us live in normal life. Yes, we have to make changes, in order to be productive, but we have the same hopes and dreams that everyone else does. I am a blind person, I have a college degree, I have a job, I have been able to care for it all family members etc. It doesn’t matter, you just do whatever works. Technology, medication, and other coping skills are a must, and we have them. I know for me, if someone is curious about how or why I do something a certain way, I would rather than ask then assume incorrectly, because they would be wrong.
I admire you so much for your honesty and for helping others through your example and explanations. And for being such a great Mom! I don't know how on earth you do it all. Thank you for sharing your difficult but worthwhile and valuable journey.
Stephanie I have been watching you guys since you announced you were pregnant with Penelope. I have always really enjoyed watching you but now I enjoy you guys even more. I have many mental health problems and I love that you are so open about it. I also recently started working as a para in a special ed room at an elementary school. While im not working directly with kids with autism because I am a one-on-one for a kid with cerebral palsy I do spend a lot of time with children with autism. All of the kiddos in our room at nonverbal and seeing these kids with their communication devices is amazing. Not all of them having devices really shows how helpful and how different it is when the child does have one. Having that communication makes these kids so much happier and seems to make their lives so much better. I love your channel so keep it up. you are a superhero mom!
Don't worry about any negative comments or unhelpful comments..you are doing what you need to for your mental health... anyone questioning that or anything else negative towards you just needs to leave you alone period.
Oh Stephanie, it was so heartbreaking to hear you say that you had to find out so you could stop disliking yourself for being a certain way 💔😢 You are such a kind and genuine soul. Your video is going to help SO many people. You are right, so many believe autism only presents one particular way. You’re great, don’t change. The insight you have gained about yourself and were willing to share is amazing!
Thank you. Your videos make me think of past situations that I have handled wrong. I need to be educated in autism so I can help my family and friends. Your honesty is very helpful.
Well done you. It's not easy to reach out to services. For me, I found it tough "admitting I'm struggling makes it real" is how I feel. But I have reached out for help now. I hope your meds help you. You've a lovely family and you're so strong. Keep going girl you're doing great xx
You have a great channel and very informative, please share more on your testing and what ever results you are comfortable sharing. Thanks again and hope you all stay well!
Hi Stephanie, I would def like a video about your testing, scoring, results etc. I don't know why people were surprised to hear that you are autistic, it sounded totally reasonable to me when you first shared the news. If anything, the fact that you don't have ADHD was a bit unexpected just by watching your videos throughout the years and getting to know that side of you lol but you explained everything thoroughly which is very much appreciated, thank you!
I am glad you have a diagnosis to help you to understand yourself, but I am even more glad you are still you, with or without the label. 😉 Love from Holland. 💝
I am so happy for you, you are brave and your family is blessed to have you!!! I'm 37 and would say when we were little autism was not a diagnosis that was given easily unless one was showing more severe signs. Now we know symptoms vary and so do levels thus it being a spectrum.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey so openly. I can relate so, so, so much. I was misdiagnosed with several different diagnoses since I was a child. I was born in 1979 and ASD wasn’t even in the DSM back then. I’ve felt so out of place my whole life and I was finally diagnosed correctly with ASD 2 years ago at age 39. I went through many different feelings, but most of all relief because now so many things just made sense. I wish I had been diagnosed correctly when I was a child for many reasons, but it is what it is. I unknowingly taught myself to mask and act “normal” plus, like I said before it wasn’t even really known about when I was born and when it was, females especially were misdiagnosed. I could keep writing, but this is getting too long.
I think people take one characteristic of a ailment and think it applies to everyone who has it, but we are all different nuero typical or not. I also love that you respect your kids wishes and think about how things are going to affect them and having private info on social media.
Hi steph this video was great.. I would like to hear more about how you got a bipolar diagnosis only if your comfortable (if not of course it’s ok)i find it interesting .. thank you for your transparency!
Hi Stephanie...as usual you are fantastic. Just to mention that last year I was following a nutritionist, Autumn Bates on TH-cam. She has a masters in nutrition and human performance. Apparently Autumn has struggled with major anxiety in the past and she has youtube videos on what triggered her anxiety and how she got it under control. I would link the videos but there are a few. So in your spare time (ha ha) you could just search Autumn Bates and anxiety. She talks very fast so her videos aren't too long. Warning you may have to change your eating habits ☹🙏
I am not sure about anyone else, but I would love to hear and see what you are comfortable with, but only if you are comfortable. If you aren't, that is ok.
After watching you and a teenager autistic, I realised I stimm, especially when I am really upset, and been doing it since I was quite young. I am also kind of akward, and it made me think, maybe I'm high funktioning autistic. Although I learned to speak very early. So early that mothers in the playground were amazed (my mom id proud of this). I also have always done imaginative play (since I can remember - so about since 2-3 years age, and maybe even earlier than I remembur (my dad's stories). I'm ADHD though. So i just checked, if people whit adhd stimm, and they do. So maybe I am just adhd, who stimms, although watching these videos (and those of that teenager autistic girl) have made me wonder, how different adhd and spectrum really are, as I can far too often relate. There are clearly core similarities, at least for me.
Thank you for your bravery to be vulnerable. Mental health does matter and you are sooo not alone. I went through a stent of insomnia and it was absolute torture. That in itself can cause mental health issues. I'm so sorry you're going through that. Check out the EBB machine for insomnia. They have a generous trial period with 100% money back and free return shipping.
Sorry about your grandmother and hope your meds work I don't have autism but I have PTSD and that is also hard and my service dog helps me with anxiety and other problems
I respect your channel and watching it gives me some hope for my 5 year old Ausome son. I also respect the fact the kids not wanting to be on camera.. but if this channel is to educate help and fellowship how is that going to work when one day all the kids say they don’t want to be on camera? I love seeing your kids and their progression.
Noah and Lex loves being on camera so I don’t think that will ever happen but you can educate without showing kids. Most of my “educational” videos don’t show them but for a few seconds!
I'm so glad you were able to get your diagnosis and put your mind at rest. I'm more than likely on the spectrum. There are many people in our family on the spectrum including my 2 sons and probably my Father. I don't care to get evaluated though. I'll stick with OCD, depression, anxiety. I take medications for all of these and they are doing fine. I'm also having sleep problems. I mentioned it to my Dr. this week and she suggested to just add some Melatonin at night for this. Do you take Melatonin? Does it work for you? What dose should I start with?
I'd be interested in seeing how well the new medicine works out for you I didn't do well on that medication but we're all different so I'm really hoping that it helps you
I really didn‘t know that there‘s medication to treat autism symptoms. Did you suddenly stop your pipolar meds and how did that make you feel, did it affect your mood or did you have any side effects from weaning off of them? It must be hard on the body... I hope the new medication will keep your anxiety at bay! I hope it will make life easier for you! Everyone deserves a better life if that’s possible. You have quite a lot on your plate and that‘s for sure something to think about. It‘s absolutely okay to do something just for yourself and your children will benefit from it anyway!
You're not treating the autism symptoms, more of the comorbid things that come from being autistic. For instance, anxiety or sleeplessness. Those aren't autistic traits but they are comorbid with most people who have autism
I explained this a bit in the video but there really aren't meds to "treat" autism, you're treating symptoms so for me that's inattentiveness and anxiety :) I haven't been on my bipolar meds since we moved to Colorado.
What is normal anyway? I have learned to respond when someone says that I look normal, or I dress normally or whatever, normal is on a dryer, and I happen to think that it is boring.
Hi Stephanie, I have been told I am bipolar and autistic and had to fight for 16 years for my autism diagnosis I am now 18 which is difficult in itself 😂 but I was just wondering if you had any advice as I am on quetiapine and sertraline and vd3 as I also have sad in the winter due to lack of vd3 but I am not sure I am bipolar but then I had 3 manic episodes and didn’t know what I was doing in those episodes but the difficulty is I was manic and depressed so I don’t quite know how that could have been bipolar but then on the other hand I was so happy to finally know what the reason I was feeling how I was before medication but I have also got eds and unfortunately my digestive system is shutting down sometimes and other times it is okey but it is day to day with my physical health I don’t want to change my diagnosis or medication as I already struggled with emotions from a small child and have never shown my emotions to my mum and wish I could you have been a life saver for me every vlog builds me stronger as a person on the autism spectrum and you being reassessed makes me think I should ask to be reassessed but I am just so worried as it’s all I have had to hold on to as to what was wrong and why I felt so bad emotionally, I broke my heel at the beggining of lockdown and felt even worse but I feel like I am ready to stop hating myself as it takes more energy to feel rubbish so I am going to put that energy into being better, I felt so much realism in what you said near the end about clinging to that diagnosis as it’s all you have known really made me feel I am ready to look into actually getting on medication that is going to work for me not just being on the two I am usto of just because I am scared of being without my medication while waiting for the new ones x please any advice would help. Thank you for your vlogs and love it really means so much to my life
I don’t know if you’re comfortable about talking about this but I’d love to hear how you’re able to afford the medical aspect of this. I avoid doctors just because I know I can’t afford it so I’d love to hear how you do it!
Breaks my heart to hear this. In australia healthcare is free for everyone. I can’t imagine not being able to go to the doctors when you’re sick because it’s expensive 😢
@@OneOfADozen I had chest pain that put me in the emergency room last year, and spent thousands for them to tell me they couldn’t find anything wrong, and that was with insurance. We’re struggling. Hopefully the US can get it together soon 😔
@@beaglebutter In Florida most hospitals send you a bill and with it is information for financial assistance to help pay your bill. All you have to do is send in income information, which is very easy to meet the limits, and they will knock thousands off your bill.
@@beaglebutter Wow it must depend on which company owns the hospital maybe. I live in NW Florida. We only have one hospital in Fort Walton Beach and one in Destin which is about 30 mins away called Sacred Heart. I know Sacred Heart also has a hospital in Pensacola about an hour away. Sacred Heart is Ascension and Fort Walton Medical Center bill comes from Cincinnati Ohio. Both of them took thousands off my bill. Maybe you could call and ask for billing and ask them if they offer any medical assistance. Sometimes they will put you in touch with Medicaid and they will help with the bill too, even if you don't have Medicaid.
Right getting the right meds is sooooo important. That is also, basically a perfectly good reason to get assessed. Point. Obviously your mental health as well, but a life long of the wrong meds...yikes
Oh my gosh! People actually say that you can't be on the spectrum? That's terrible 😣... Those are the people who think kids on the spectrum can't have jobs and live on their own ect... Though I'm sure there are a few who have followed you for a long time who say it and they are just shocked and they say it in wrong way. Love you and your family! You being on the spectrum can only be a good thing by being someone for your kids to look up to. Just like Noah saying that he would think it would be awesome if you were because he wouldn't feel alone ❤️🥰
Hey my love even though I'm dealing with Asperger's and bipolar disorder I'm on less Services because I have two part-time jobs and I no longer need a psychiatrist because I'm alone go on psych meds because I don't do well with psych meds or heavy steroids or heavy antibiotics
Also even though I'm dealing with Asperger's and bipolar disorder I don't need a lot of autistic Services or ddso services like your family because my situation is more independent
I’ve been wondering if I Amon the spectrum. I talk with my hands I think that is an Italian thing lol! However 4 kids 2 confirmed on spectrum and two most likely are. I’m starting to think me too!
Were the bipolar medications able to help with any symptoms? (So many medications are able to treat multiple diagnoses/symptoms). Were the bipolar medications possibly harmful because they were to treat the wrong diagnosis?
Strattera is a non stimulant adhd medication it was like was one of the first ones they ever had.haha I hope you like it.i took it but I don't remember tbh.i have ASD/ADHD so I take intuniv adderall and topamax now.👩🎨
From research I found out that girls don't show obvious symptoms of autism? The same as boys do. Did you have a speech delay? I only ask because I know that my son has autism, but doctors say it's too early to tell, because they wait for it to be past a speech delay, all other symptoms seem to be ignored, I don't know why 🤷♀️
In one of her recent videos, Stephenie mentioned that when she was 4 years old, people couldn’t understand what she was saying. Her sister had to translate what she was saying to the teachers. She will make a video soon on her signs and symptoms.
I hope this comment doesn’t come off as insensitive, because that is not my intent at all. Do you think that because you were not treated like you had Autism as a child (no therapies, different societal expectations, stuff like that) you were able to live a more “normal life” (meaning societies’ expectations like going to school, working a job, romantic relationships, raising a family), when compared to your kids who have had great therapy targeted at their Autism from a young age?
I lived anything but a "normal" life. I've struggled my entire life and it would've been amazing to have some help with just functioning. My jobs, friendships, romantic relationships, finances,, school, etc all suffered because I didn't know how to approach social expectations and didn't realize what I was doing wrong
Im honestly not surprised that youre autistic, I remember even kind of suspecting you were a year or two ago. I dont think its a negative though, so maybe thats why I could see how you might be.
I'm so sorry I'm the one who said that about you having anxiety because you have 6 kids!!! It was a joke!!! Apparently, it was a VERY bad joke...but it WAS a joke never less!!! So again I'm sorry!!! I think just because I add LOL that people will know that I'm joking...wrong again!!!
@@OurLANDingCrew8 I really did mean it as a joke...just having six kids is hard...but WONDERFUL too!!! I think you are SO blessed...and so are your kids to have you!!!
It really wasn't the anxiety comment that had me going ... what. It was when someone said "well if you have sensory overload with 6 kids then every mom with many kids is autistic" it was ableist and uncalled for.
@@OurLANDingCrew8 I agree with you! I'm am new at this...and I'm sure from time to time I will say the wrong thing...but I mean NO harm and I REALLY think you are doing an AWESOME job!!!
I think in general people are more comfortable with the idea of an autistic child. But people seem far less comfortable understanding the narrative of an adult on the spectrum.

@@GroundhogBaby I’m in Florida and they would only lower my monthly payments, not the overall bill 😔
I'd love to hear about your scores and traits. I've been diagnosed bipolar 2 for over 10 years now
Right getting the right meds is sooooo important. That is also, basically a perfectly good reason to get assessed. Point. Obviously your mental health as well, but a life long of the wrong meds...yikes
Love you!!
Yeaaaaa Liam!
People constantly say that to adult females especially if you're a mom. People can't comprehend adult women being on the spectrum
Great job 👌👌
Hey my love even though I'm dealing with Asperger's and bipolar disorder I'm on less Services because I have two part-time jobs and I no longer need a psychiatrist because I'm alone go on psych meds because I don't do well with psych meds or heavy steroids or heavy antibiotics
Because I no longer on psych meds because I don't do well with psych meds or heavy steroids are heavy antibiotics
You are awesome.
just realized LANDing means Liam Alexander Noah Danielle lmao
The Lex also included Lex and Lonnie, and then Nellie in the N
L- Liam and lonnie jr
A- alexander
N- nellie and Noah
D- Danielle
@@21StephieD but to be fair when she made this channel nellie wasn't in existence haha
That would be awesome
Were the bipolar medications able to help with any symptoms? (So many medications are able to treat multiple diagnoses/symptoms). Were the bipolar medications possibly harmful because they were to treat the wrong diagnosis?
Not really. I didn't notice a difference on or off of them. Prozac I did but that addresses anxiety and isn't a bipolar specific med
Please give a summary please
Strattera is a non stimulant adhd medication it was like was one of the first ones they ever had.haha I hope you like it.i took it but I don't remember tbh.i have ASD/ADHD so I take intuniv adderall and topamax now.👩🎨
My daughter takes topramax for migraine headaches. That is a seizure medication they use for migraines. Do you have seizures or migraines?
@@GroundhogBaby no i do not they try it sometimes for some kids and people with asd for like anger.
Is it common to get medication for autism to treat the anxiety and the inattentive behavior?
Alot of adhders get misdiagnosed with bipoler
Are you going to still take your bipolar medicine or are you tapering off? Would it be ok to cold turkey?
From research I found out that girls don't show obvious symptoms of autism? The same as boys do. Did you have a speech delay? I only ask because I know that my son has autism, but doctors say it's too early to tell, because they wait for it to be past a speech delay, all other symptoms seem to be ignored, I don't know why 🤷♀️
In one of her recent videos, Stephenie mentioned that when she was 4 years old, people couldn’t understand what she was saying. Her sister had to translate what she was saying to the teachers. She will make a video soon on her signs and symptoms.
Yes I had a speech delay and speech impediment as a child and adult
I'm going to be 16 on valentines day I'm a sweet heart baby
I'm a Groundhog Baby! February 2nd.
Congratulations
I didn’t even know you could medicate someone with autism wow
Scores please (as you feel appropriate)
Where is that child's coat!?! Brrrrr
She was meant for the mountains LOL
Im honestly not surprised that youre autistic, I remember even kind of suspecting you were a year or two ago. I dont think its a negative though, so maybe thats why I could see how you might be.
💕💕💕💕💕
What part of the autism spectrum that you're on? And what's bipolar disorder?
There is no “part”. Autism is autism. Bipolar is a mood disorder
You weren’t the only one to make these remarks lol
Are you going to tell us about the official diagnosis
I already did a video on it. It's linked in the description and cards
Thanks Stephanie I am one of your biggest fan I’m an autistic you tuber too I review toys and Fidget for people with special needs
So your aspburgers
@@ravenkitley7092 they don't use Asperger's as a diagnosis in the US anymore.
@@GroundhogBaby Sorry I didn’t know my cousin who has aspburgers still refers to himself as having aspburgers
Why are you not being yourself. Please be yourself
She explained it in a recent video
I think in general people are more comfortable with the idea of an autistic child. But people seem far less comfortable understanding the narrative of an adult on the spectrum.
After knowing all that you know now, would you like to have more kids?
Before or after, no lol
