Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag | Munro Bagging

- A solo hike up the 8th and 7th highest Munros in Scotland Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag from the gondola with awesome views into Ben Nevis and the Carn Mor Dearg arete (CMD arete) on a clear day, which it was.
After hiking up the Loch Lochy Munros ( • The Loch Lochy Munros ... ) and then the following day hiking up Ben Nevis via the CMD arete ( • Solo Hiking UK's Highe... ) the previous 2 days my legs were rather tired. Therefore I decided to have an "easy" day by hiking up Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag by first taking the Nevis Range gondola, which takes you about 600m up the side of Aonach Mor.
The hike starts out from the Nevis Range car park which is £4.50 all day or you can park in one of the laybys on the road up to Nevis Range for free and walk in. Once at Nevis Range you buy your gondola ticket, which is £24.95 at the time of writing and take the ride up the mountain to the gondola station. The Nevis Range has lots of facilities including bike tracks. See www.nevisrange.co.uk/ for more information.
After taking the ride the gondola station leave the gondola station and take a right up the path. Follow this path until you're past the last ski chair lift and the fence marker, then take a left up the grassy bank. This grassy bank doesn't have a path as such but is pretty steep in places and boggy. After sometime it does hit a plateau were you then gently ascend to the summit of Aonach Mor.
On Aonach Mor you can see your next Munro, Aonach Beag if visibility is clear. Make your way across via a fairly well defined path. From afar it looks like the ridge will narrow with a big drop on one side when making the ascent to Aonach Beag. This is a little deceiving because the path up Aonach Beag has no exposure and has a few paths up to the summit.
Once you have reached the summit of Aonach Beag it's a case of retracing your steps back to the gondola station to take the ride back down in the gondola.

I missed the premiere and I am sorry for that as the crowd is nice and fun! But it is fun and nice to watch your movie today and it is an impressive landscape that you are hiking through. I am quite sure that I also would have taken the gondola up to the hills and then crack on into this green and fun landscape! Once more I have realised that I really should visit Scotland for the chance to do some nice hikes and enjoy the Munroes; but meanwhile I enjoy watching your movies (and from the crowd) and dream about the day:) Cheers, Ant
My legs were rather tired that day from being up in mountains the previous 2 days and I'd not been up on the gondola before therefore with the weather being good I thought I'd kill 2 birds with one stone. The hike didn't turn out as easy I expected tho but the views I got certainly made that worth the effort. If I did those hills again I'd go in from the other side. Hi Ms Kayak, thanks for coming along to another premiere, it's very much appreciated. The views on this day were awesome so I'm really pleased that came across on the video. I only really started hiking properly about 2-3 years ago. In that time I have made a few mistakes and learned a lot. I enjoy getting up high for the views, the fresh air and I feel like I am off planet for a few hours whilst I am there amongst other things. I was probably breathing a bit hard on the video. Hi Paul. Very nice ride on the lift or gondola…I took a similar ride a few days ago but not with your incredible scenery! It looked a little challenging to climb but your determined! Hi Christine, Thought I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone with the gondola ride as id never been on the gondola plus figured some easier munros to bag. Also my legs were tired from the previous days hikes. The actual hike was harder than I thought but it was worth it for the views. It does take a bit of getting used to doing the hikes and I tend to push myself a bit too much at times. The views were a bit unreal. I felt very lucky and I only saw 3 people in the mountains so even more enjoyable. It was a real pleasure sat there taking in the views whilst I had my time lapse going. Thanks again for coming to another premiere, it's very much appreciated. Cheers, Paul 👍
