No guys. I hate to say it but beo wulf is right here, though granted his ideals aren't right, but the younger gen. talking about a movie that merely used a bit of the song, and talking about the movie on the very page of the whole song is indeed a little disgraceful. This song is partially culture... talking about something such as a movie that is not yet equal, not even close to, such culture is disgraceful, and if these comments keep on coming they may push down the important comments such as the comments that talk about times from then or that talk about the place it self is indeed , like said above, disgraceful. The younger gen. should show a little respect to good music like such and try to experience culture. I myself found the song from the movie but that does not mean i don't care about the place, after listening to the lyrics i kind of even want to experience the place... Final Message: New Generation should learn to respect cultural things like this... IT MATTERS!!! ... not now maybe, not 5 years from now maybe even, but 10 years down the road this will be essential part of American culture.
I do this every week, including yesterday, it was a beautiful sunny day. The highway is usually faster but there’s no beating the view and feeling heading south on LSD. Never gets old.
Probably the only song that could have been played on a radio station every single day and people didn't get to absolutely hate it. People still love it like the first time.
Was driving along LSD one Friday afternoon, pouring with rain, lots of traffic. Had my i-pod on... played this and all of a sudden the drive became more fun...

I got stuck on LSD going to North pier to play battle tech, drove up from St Louis, hit 55, and LakeShoreDrive. 4.15 from that point to north peer 2:45h the last time jerry played a show at soldier field that night, but all the deadheads were like zombies in and out of traffic walking on the lakeshore. Dirty hairy pitted rancid smelling hippy chicks begging everybody for a miracle..94 93? June July, not sure. I still have my battle tech card in my wallet
@@ruidasilvamartins It’s called DuSable lake shore drive for Chicago’s first non native settler, it’s stupid because he has a bazillion other things named after him and now he’s taken over Chicago’s lake shore drive
The cleverness of the lyrics, the piano and violin, the arrangement, the vibe this song simply just has! Incredible. Grateful to Guardians of the Galaxy for introducing it to me, now a permanent part of my playlist
Having grown up in Chicago I always get goosebumps when I hear this song. It perfectly describes the feeling of driving on Lake Shore Drive, especially on a beautiful summer evening. Love you, Windy City!
I've never lived in Chicago, but this song STILL makes me wistful for my days a youth, driving all over my home state. It also makes me wish I was a Chicago resident (although I'm proud to have been raised in the South). Beautifully done, and I'm not surprised that it makes Chicago folks misty-eyed.
They have such an incredible sound. I'm sad that I just discovered this great band a few years ago and realized that both members are no longer with us. Such a shame because this is real music.
I was born in 1976 and recall sitting in my carseat next to Mom and this song came on. I was a toddler and it just made sense to my heart. It's the first song I remember hearing. Still gives me nostalgia goosebumps.
This song feels like speeding down a dark road at 11PM on a warm summer night with 4 other people in the car, all laughing with eachother while you look out the window, watching the lightning from the oncoming storm.
That's actually what the song is about. Lake Shore Drive is the name of a famous street here in Chicago, where this band is from. It runs the entire length of the city along the shore of Lake Michigan. It goes through both the poorest and richest neighborhoods, hence the lyric "from rats on up to riches" and it passes right by a famous building called the Metropolitan Tower, that has a really big bright blue beacon on the top of it, which is what "pretty blue lights are guiding the way" is referencing.
Being from Chicago now living in LA, I play this at least once a week to be reminded of what a great city Chicago and especially how much I loved Lake Shore Drive. I well up every time I hear this!!! Fabulous song!!!!
Whenever I am away from Chicago and I hear this wonderful song, it makes me feel so emotional and home sick. Makes me want to hurry back to my home town. Even when I am home in Chicago and I think of the drive with our beautiful lake, I feel emotional. And now that I know these great guys have passed away I feel sadness but still love the song and always will. I always hum this song while I drive on LSD
+Licia Macaluso Driving on LSD could impair your driving ablities and is also considered Driving Under the Influence, I would suggest you stop this dangerous practice now!!! for more information visit 69drugsarebad911.gov!
Grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin and heard this song on Milwaukee radio. It was (and still is) the greatest song I ever heard. Years later (late 70s, early 80s) they re-released the album and I immediately ran to (say it with me) The Exclusive Company in West Bend WI and bought a copy.
It sounds like the piano to 'Oh yoko' from John Lennon's Imagine album - can you check if I am just made though. Sounds like the same chord progression too.
Back in the 70s I worked with Skip Haynes' mom in Chicago. She was a riot. We'd always have the radio on and when this song came on and the violin part started playing I'd always say, "Great fiddle playing!". His mom, Dana, would pretend to be indignantly irritated and shot back at me..."That's not a fiddle! It's a violin player from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra! Then we'd all laugh. I LOVE this song and the feelings it still evokes. And I love Chicago.
I'm 65 years old and have lived in Chicago for years and have driven Lake Shore Drive too many times to count. A wonderful experience. Brings back memories. Great piano ❤
Had the radio on and this song came on as I'm folding laundry and my 3year old bouncing on the bed to the song, what sweet memory I'll have because of this song, 💗💗💗
Lakeshore drive. SoSo beautiful. Never again will i hear such brilliant music. Best years in the history of the planet, never be repeated. Today is utter crap.
If memory serves, these guys were out of the biz and working menial labor jobs for the better part of a year when some local DJ spun the 45 and it went mega-viral overnight. They were tracked down through a friend of a friend and hauled in to do a concert. The rest is rock n roll history...Great song anyway you spin it ;)
TaxTheFed - I'm truly not trying to pick on you, nor is it my intention to be a dick (though I'm sure there will be those who don't get why I'm pointing this out.). It wasn't viral! There was no viral then! People actually heard the song, recommended it to others and shared in the great experience associated with a song like this. People actually got together and bonded, strengthened friendships and created memories because of the interaction this song inspired. Again, I'm not trying to bust your chops. I simply feel today's viral world has all but destroyed this type of medium. In my humble opinion, viral should not be used to describe anything before 2010. Thank you.
This song (a one-hit wonder, really) is a fantastic piece of art. And, boy, did they do it well ! An awesome group of musicians. To those who've never headed south on Lake Shore Drive late at night, well let me tell you, it's the prettiest road probably in the world.
The line about ‘water on the driving side’ gets me every time as an ex-Chicagoan. There really is no road I’ve found like LSD because in any other city that road would either have to right on the water or the view would be blocked by now with 1k condominium complexes. Not in Chicago. Other than one building that snuck through in I think the late nineties that whole big stretch of land on the east side of LSD is parks and beaches. Truly one of the great drives around sunset. Perfect encapsulation in the song.
I was living in Toronto Canada when this came out and I remember blasting down Lakeshore Drive heading to Mississauga in a friend's Caddy Convertible with this tune playing over and over again - the memories that this song brings back are sheer enjoyment. Angelique, may this song forever tie you to your lovely Uncle Mitch and the memories that this song brings to you. God Bless.
Hearing this reminds me of listening to oldies 104.3 heading up lake shore drive in the back seat of the car with my Mom and Dad. Later it meant driving to Stony Island every afternoon to see Mom in the hospital when she got sick, the sun and tears in my eyes.
This music, this sound...takes me back to a simpler time. When music was written and performed with feeling. A part of my youth when we all lived in the moment, and could appreciate it even then.
Moved from Chicago area when I was 50. Tears still come remembering the times with friends. Most are gone. 'MY KIND OF TOWN,CHICAGO IS.... TAKE ME BACK TO CHICAGO, TO LAY MY SOUL TO REST.... BE BACK TO SEE GRANDKIDS AT CHRISTMAS. Watched sunrise on LSD and Montrose harbor on the back of my dart sport after daye night. OH BOY!

Trying to fall asleep tonight, but had this piano stuck in my head. I searched the only words I could remember "there ain't no road just like it" and remembered. Finally I can sleep now lol.
There's a road I'd like to tell you about, lives in my home town Lake Shore Drive the road is called and it'll take you up or down From rats on up to riches fifteen minutes you can fly Pretty blue lights along the way, help you right on by And the blue lights shining with a heavenly grace, help you right on by And there ain't no road just like it Anywhere I found Running south on Lake Shore Drive heading into town Just slippin' on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound And it starts up north from Hollywood, water on the driving side Concrete mountains rearing up, throwing shadows just about five Sometimes you can smell the green if your mind is feeling fine There ain't no finer place to be, than running Lake Shore Drive And there's no peace of mind, or place you see, than riding on Lake Shore Drive And there ain't no road just like it Anywhere I found Running south on Lake Shore drive heading into town Just slippin on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound And it's Friday night and you're looking clean Too early to start the rounds A ten minute ride from the Gold Coast back make sure you're pleasure bound And it's four o'clock in the morning and all of the people have gone away Just you and your mind and Lake Shore Drive, tomorrow is another day And the sunshine's fine in the morning time, tomorrow is another day And there ain't no road just like it Anywhere I found Running south on Lake Shore drive heading into town Just snaking on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song! Always have since first hearing it in the 70s and I still need to hear it now and then. I'm Chicago born and raised but now I live in Minnesota, which is beautiful in its own right, but there's nothing like having the car windows open in the summertime, sun shining, and driving north on Lake Shore Drive.
One of my all time favorite tunes. Brings back so many great memories of my earlier years. I agree with all the other comments about this song and its emotional impact. It does it for me.
Agreed. And it's a shame that many native Chicagoites, are unaware this song even exists. There was no better feeling I got back when I was younger than coming from visiting my mother at 2:00am, or even more, going to visit her, coming from my home with my drive starting from Granville and Kenmore and ending on the Bishop Ford at 115th and King Dr. I would always reach into my ash tray and grab a big "Duck" smoking it while driving early 70's-80's. This was in my fully loaded Lincoln Continental Coup, my Lady falling asleep in the passenger seat. I would always consider myself lucky to catch this song on the radio while driving this stretch. No feeling like it for a beautiful ride in the, Chi, especially at night. I've found no comparison to date. That is, "Riding Southbound on LSD, heading into town". No other road or 20 minute drive just like it. In the world. Period.... And while I'm not trying to be competitive, Rio, Asia, France, bring it on if you feel you can because ya'll have some nice stretches, but none like this one I'm afraid. The Chi's concrete canyon lit up on one side reflecting off Lake Michigan on the other. So I literally mean, No Where. The Chi got this one. Peace. SJ, aka, DaSlimone.
I sang this on on lake shore drive with a 70 year old Uber driver on my last night in Chicago before moving back to Europe. She insisted I sing it with her.
Being a Chicago boy for all of my life this song is one of my ALL time favorites, each year for the past 10 every Sunday before Memorial Day i bicycle The Bike The Drive while love listing to this song.

What an amazing song. A week ago I heard this playing at an outdoor shopping plaza, and immediately liked what I was hearing and then I used Shazam app to identify and download to my phone. and then, after listening and reading the lyrics, I learned that the song is about my favorite road in the entire world. And and me and my two lifelong best friends have had so many great times and memories in Chicago and that road.

Man you making me reminds me my mom when she was there .... I miss her, and this song remind me of her some how .. ...been 2 year almost 3.. we didn't see us because she live to far away from me .. I hope you played this to you're mom and bring back good memories cheers up :)
I would remember them playing "everyone wants to rule the world" by tears for fears
Star-lord's mom taste of music is good.
Perseus Jackson Riiiiiiiight
There needs to be a movie just about Meredith Quill raising young Peter.
Will you fuck off with GOTG shit?
You do realize these movies help make those classics known to younger generations? It's awesome if you ask me.
I've done it a hundred and more times, runnin' south on Lakeshore Drive, comin' into town, and after 50 years the memory is vivid, never dies.
The writer of this classic Skip Haynes passed away on October 4th, 2017. Rest in peace....
That was my 21st birthday

So glad he lived to see it finally more widely appreciated after GotG
feinstei l hear one Eugene von Heitlinger wrote the song... ???
@@Io-Io-IoSee I'm late to the party by a couple of years, but Is that a trick question ?
Was driving along LSD one Friday afternoon, pouring with rain, lots of traffic. Had my i-pod on... played this and all of a sudden the drive became more fun...
Unless you're stoned it's just another freeway
I bet it was the best drive you have ever had Mr H.
Martyn H its not talking about the road there talking about the drugs
Jonathan Sakks it's pretty much a phone, search it up on google
Have done that too-Sofieann B.
June 25th, Chicago decides to rename you. All my life this song, this road, a huge part of my life. It will always be Lake Shore Drive to me. It will always be LSD.
💯♥️✌️
absolutely
What's the new name in chicago then please ?
Greetings from Switzerland
You gotta admit they describe a fun ride, beautiful song, every time I hear it, I feel like I'm riding with them
RIP Skip Haynes.
This video is a perfect memorial.
I was born in a hospital just off Lake Shore Drive in 1970 and this song always makes me homesick.🥺
Gorgeous chord progressions, tragically happy.. so nostalgic.
Having grown up in Chicago I always get goosebumps when I hear this song. It perfectly describes the feeling of driving on Lake Shore Drive, especially on a beautiful summer evening. Love you, Windy City!
Amen! This song always brings me to tears
One of the greatest songs in music history.
I've never lived in Chicago, but this song STILL makes me wistful for my days a youth, driving all over my home state. It also makes me wish I was a Chicago resident (although I'm proud to have been raised in the South). Beautifully done, and I'm not surprised that it makes Chicago folks misty-eyed.
booooooooooooooooooooooo
Happened to think of this song today for no particular reason. It's still beautiful and holds it's musical integrity beyond the limits of time.
It is a piece of art
R.I.P. Mitch Aliotta, lifelong friend if my father and one of my favorite bassists ever. The music community has lost one of its best.
I like how you were able to make this be about you
I met Mr. Aliotta a few months ago, he is very much alive! Very influential to the music i heard growing up. I love this band, reminds me of my dad
@@terraheinrichs6987 sometimes youtube comments are pure gold. You're one of em Terra. Thank you x)
Love the Venum symbol btw
They have such an incredible sound. I'm sad that I just discovered this great band a few years ago and realized that both members are no longer with us. Such a shame because this is real music.
I was born in 1976 and recall sitting in my carseat next to Mom and this song came on. I was a toddler and it just made sense to my heart. It's the first song I remember hearing. Still gives me nostalgia goosebumps.
This song feels like speeding down a dark road at 11PM on a warm summer night with 4 other people in the car, all laughing with eachother while you look out the window, watching the lightning from the oncoming storm.
Yes it does. I've lived in Southeastern GA and have done just this, many times with friends.🖤😌🎶
@@8thhousemoonrabbit205 Whenever me and my grandparents go to Holden Beach in NC, we always do this after we go eat. Good times 😌
I literally did this on lsd driving down lsd with 4 other people at 4 am after an underground party going back home....just gorgeous 😍
Yeah. Listening to this song while driving Chicago's LSD. 4AM in the morning.
Great song for a great city!!! Only people that live in Chicago can really appreciate how true this song is!!!!
I LIVE IN CHICAGO I LOVE THIS SONG , THE DRIVE IS BEAUTIFUL,
@@janicekramer2322 Not true.
If you leave Milwaukee when the bars close,
you land on Hollywood right at 4am.

Close your eyes and enjoy the ride with this beautiful song. Rock On!
I've done that many times too.
If you have 200K you'd like to spend in hospital then yeah do what this guy says
Great way to drive the car!
Cheers Bob
I love this song!
Being from Chicago now living in LA, I play this at least once a week to be reminded of what a great city Chicago and especially how much I loved Lake Shore Drive. I well up every time I hear this!!! Fabulous song!!!!
I can’t believe I didn’t hear this before Guardians of the Galaxy 2. What an absolute legend of a song.
That's why we should listen more to popmusic of the 60s and 70s!! 😘
Sames, that opening piano is incredible.
Same here. Those movies have the best music!
22 years of driving on Lake Shore Drive, 22 years of living right next to it, and I never discovered this until today. I love it.

I'm a displaced Chicago boy.... and this song makes my homesick and nostalgic. Good feelings? So why are my eyes tearing?
Grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin and heard this song on Milwaukee radio. It was (and still is) the greatest song I ever heard. Years later (late 70s, early 80s) they re-released the album and I immediately ran to (say it with me) The Exclusive Company in West Bend WI and bought a copy.
That piano riff is something else
It sounds like the piano to 'Oh yoko' from John Lennon's Imagine album - can you check if I am just made though. Sounds like the same chord progression too.
I can’t explain it, but after we die if we got to watch a video showing all our life’s experiences, I’d want that sound playing over it
The piano riff was written and performed by John Jeremiah, my father's college roommate.
I haven't heard a song this GREAT in a long long time. Ah! 1971, What a year.
The rest is rock n roll history...Great song anyway you spin it ;)
TaxTheFed - sounds like DIVINE INTERVENTION to me! Praise the Lord!
+Mike Madden
They tried to forbid this music so much that it slipped through somehow
I think it was Ed Schwartz on WGN 720
Thank you.
lol lets hear your sophisticated thoughts on monetary policy
Without a doubt, one of the greatest R&R songs to come from another outstanding Chicago group. What an absolute gem.
This song (a one-hit wonder, really) is a fantastic piece of art. And, boy, did they do it
well ! An awesome group of musicians. To those who've never headed south on Lake Shore Drive late at night, well let me tell you, it's the prettiest road probably in the world.
I literally live on Hollywood and this goes through my head every time I get on Lake Shore.
This song never fails to put a smile on my face
The line about ‘water on the driving side’ gets me every time as an ex-Chicagoan. There really is no road I’ve found like LSD because in any other city that road would either have to right on the water or the view would be blocked by now with 1k condominium complexes. Not in Chicago. Other than one building that snuck through in I think the late nineties that whole big stretch of land on the east side of LSD is parks and beaches. Truly one of the great drives around sunset. Perfect encapsulation in the song.
If you want something that comes close, there's FDR Drive and the Henry Hudson Parkway.
Great song, but a road is really the worst way to use waterfront. Better to have a board walk or a biking trail
Brilliant song! I hear him at least once a day! A masterpiece for eternity! Thanks for that🙏!
I'm from Australia and this song rocks

I used to work with Ted aliotta
I recently introduced my niece to this song, she loves it. I drive her everyday from Hollywood into downtown.
I found this a few weeks ago and I have been listening to it everyday. I will never get tired of this song.
They are all gone now. Rest in peace,, guys! You put some great music out there!!!!
So so beautiful. Lovely days gone
OH BOY!
Whenever I see and hear this video it makes me kinda tear up cause I was born and raised in Chicago and lived North of Lake Shore Drive and even tho I have relocated whenever i see pictures of "home" I still get misty cause no matter where I am now there is just something magical about Lake Shore Drive. So many friends and Loved ones have gone on..but Chicago is still and will always be "My Home"...:)
I lived in Chicago in the seventies on Lawrence and Kimball and still big fan of the seventies I am 67 now in IOWA
Chicago is the most beautiful city in America! Will always be my home at heart ♥️! Where all my greatest memories came to life 🙏🏻 I will miss you! ♥️♥️♥️
I love listening to this while driving down Lakeshore on the Michigan East coast it's such a mood.
One of the most underrated feelgood songs ever! Should've been a huge hit!
Wow, can't believe I found this! I have owned this album for years! I live close to Chicago and this was always our "road trip" song! Brings back many memories of friends who are still here, but friends who are also gone...This song was just so "groovy", picked 'ya up and laid 'ya back down, too!
I've lived on LSD for 22 years - always loved this song!
Do you get flashbacks?
Do you hallucinate alot
Are you okay?
thats alot of lsd
Beth is 74 years old now & is living in one of those very expensive condominiums along Lake Shore Drive.
I just cry... This song reminds me all my good friends who died this year, and this song gives me the power to feel the life well, for them.

@@dogeman3367 :D Love you too, greetings from Switzerland :)
Trying to fall asleep tonight, but had this piano stuck in my head. I searched the only words I could remember "there ain't no road just like it" and remembered. Finally I can sleep now lol.
I'm not from the USA, nor was I alive when this song was made, but it's still one of my favorite songs. The piano is just so good.
There's a road I'd like to tell you about, lives in my home town
Lake Shore Drive the road is called and it'll take you up or down
From rats on up to riches fifteen minutes you can fly
Pretty blue lights along the way, help you right on by
And the blue lights shining with a heavenly grace, help you right on by And there ain't no road just like it
Anywhere I found
Running south on Lake Shore Drive heading into town
Just slippin' on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound And it starts up north from Hollywood, water on the driving side
Concrete mountains rearing up, throwing shadows just about five
Sometimes you can smell the green if your mind is feeling fine
There ain't no finer place to be, than running Lake Shore Drive
And there's no peace of mind, or place you see, than riding on Lake Shore Drive And there ain't no road just like it
Anywhere I found
Running south on Lake Shore drive heading into town
Just slippin on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound And it's Friday night and you're looking clean
Too early to start the rounds
A ten minute ride from the Gold Coast back make sure you're pleasure bound
And it's four o'clock in the morning and all of the people have gone away
Just you and your mind and Lake Shore Drive, tomorrow is another day
And the sunshine's fine in the morning time, tomorrow is another day And there ain't no road just like it
Anywhere I found
Running south on Lake Shore drive heading into town
Just snaking on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound
Dam.i miss CHICAGO.
Best memories there. No other city like CHICAGO
One can leave Chicago but Chicago never leaves you
Whenever I get mad or frustrated I listen to this
There is nothing I like better than running Lake Shore Drive. Day, Night any weather, it just does something to you.
Sue Skinner hi sue !did you live in the west suburbs?
Great song! Guardians introduced it to me, thanks. Nice touch at the end of this video having the singer performing the song. I like.
guardians introduced me to a bunch of songs like this and now I cant stop listening to them lol
Same here
Every time I’m in the Chicago burbs this song comes to mind. Naturally, I have to sing it loud in my truck repeatedly until I’m out of Illinois
I'm so unlucky that I couldn't live at that time and enjoy this song in it's time.
Looks like underrated now
Thanks James Gunn to reuse this and make us know about it.

Wonderful memories from my year as an exchange student at UIUC in 1985/86. This exact version was playing on the radio often and I loved it! So glad to re-discover it here now! Thanks so much for posting and sharing!
The Neil Young-style live clip at the end was the perfect addition to tie this together, thank you.
