Hey! LOVE IT! I used this vid to make my friends b-day cake. I was wondering If you could of a vid about making shaped cakes? E.g pirate ship cake, princess castle cake, etc. Thanks SO much!
Great question! I previously drilled a hole in the middle and aligned it to stay in the centre of cake to allow the dowel pass through with ease. But I understand there are some thin cake cards that are quite easy to pierce through without pre-drilling even though I wouldn’t take that chance. Thank you for asking. ❤️
If you were making a tiered cake with the double Barrell cake as the base, then how would the support system for the top tier work? Would u push the dowel all the way down or until u hit that middle board?
Please I'd like to know when we need to dowel a cake. I used to think it's only when we are stacking tiered cakes but I realized people dowel some single cakes too
Hello. It’s called ‘sugar syrup’. It’s basically a combination of equal parts boiled water and sugar. And the ‘creamy stuff’ is the buttercream. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I basically used the common American buttercream (ABC). Only that I don’t always use the exact 1:2 ( ie 250g butter to 500g icing sugar) measurements as most do depending on the weather and decoration I’m going for. Most of the time, I just eyeball the amount of icing sugar that goes into my butter which is usually less to achieve a softer yet firm consistency. I do this mostly in cold weather conditions. But if I need it extra firm, I might go overboard just a little with the sugar🙈. In a nutshell, I tailor my recipe accordingly to the cake decoration and the weather if that makes sense.
@Karen Wilcox, I must also add that I don’t always use ABC for the inside of my cakes most times. I go for others such as the Meringue based buttercreams, whipped cream/ Cream cheese or Chocolate frostings as they’re less sweet compared to the ABC.
I can totally relate to the ABC being too stiff to apply or to pipe flowers. You can always return it into the mixer and add some cream cheese, milk, or whipping cream to reduce the stiffness. Sometimes, I use marshmallow fluff or melted marshmallow. Or I’ll just pop it in the microwave for few seconds if I have non of the above. The options are endless.
When I make cake tall cake it always falls after applying cream on cake dish also it happened with me while delivering the cake whole cream stuck to the box

How do you know the dowel can pass through the middle board directly and simple as that

Great job 👏 what is the brand of the red that you used
Thank you. I used Sugarflair brand.
Hi! What do you call the tool that you used to know if the cake is balanced or leveled? The one with the water and bubble in it? 😊
Hi Marie, it’s called Spirit level😊
If you were making a tiered cake with the double Barrell cake as the base, then how would the support system for the top tier work? Would u push the dowel all the way down or until u hit that middle board?
You would poke a hole in the center of that middle board so that the center dowel goes through each layer of cake.
How many servings would you say this cake serves?

Hi,can i please know how long it was placed in the fridge after covering with the cling wrap?
Just long enough to firm up. Should be about an hour 😊
@@Maffylicious1 Thanks so much for the reply 😊❤
How do you bake those thick layers? Mine are either burnt around the edges or raw in the middle.
I used to have the same problem until I started baking at 160°C/325°F. I also invested in an oven thermometer. Hope that helps
Brilliant!!
Thank you Hephzibah! I love that name, that’s also my daughter’s name by the way 😊

Thank you so much for the tutorial. Is that Swiss meringue buttercream you used?
Thank you for your lovely comment.
No, I didn’t use Swiss meringue buttercream but used American buttercream. ❣️
Thank you so much! 🥰
You’re welcome 😊
Gorgeous. How tall is it?
Thank you. It’s almost about 10 inches tall.
Looks fantastic! Will you share your buttercream recipe?

@@Maffylicious1 Thank you! I always seem to end up with ABC which is too stiff to easily apply. I'll play with the ratio.

Why must brush with symple syrup on cake?
It’s optional, but it helps to keep the cake moist. 😊
What is the height of the cake and inches? Thanks
What's the size of this?
Do you mean the height or the width?
It’s a 7 inch round cake and the the height is about 10 inch if I remember clearly. (Been a while now).

Hi Gem, I baked it with a 7 inch cake pan and it’s almost 10 inches tall.
